I'm torn here because it looked like a bloody good race and I wouldn't have the guts to try this myself so I do appreciate the courage you guys have and the amount of effort that goesinto prepping the cars.
On the other hand I'm wincing seeng some of the rare classics being destroyed, looked like an A60 limousine there and a couple of Countryman estates? Plus whatever that yank was - '67 Galaxie maybe? Someone please reassure me that all these cars were rotten and had all the good bits removed?
@CycolacFan I understand your reservations but, as a general rule, a classic must be pretty rotten to drop down to 'banger money'. There have been exceptions, but generally any car which can be restored is restored and those which are beyond financially-viable restoration are raced. Many of the racers are classic car enthusiasts themselves and drive classics on the road - I drive an '82 Granada estate and my brother a '66 MG Magnette . Many parts are salvaged to keep others running too. :)
I was a New Brighton regular too and supported the Invaders as a kid. Great to see an old institution still rocking after all those years. The racing is a lot more manic and dangerous looking here than I remember at N B and Kirkby though, very destructive and cars ploughing into the infield while drivers are walking around!!!! who needs health and safety? Wild. . .
@gungebucket706 Send me your email address by private message and I'll raid my collection to see if I can find the original footage for you. Might take me a few days
