Sen makes good points but her statement that such immigration raids and deportations conflict with American values of "fairness and non-discrimination" are laughable.
I realize she is merely making rhetorical argumentative points but this country has always been racist against people of color and immigrants (even white ones).
Thus, the US is a nation founded on white supremacy, a slave nation. How can such a nation call itself nonracist and fair?
they are pawns in a liberal/democrat poltical shceme. and are being used like all other minorites and the poor. and their condition and status will never raised because the democrats need them poor and pissed !
the immigration policy is integrally tied in with this sort of thing. They make perfect cheap labour because you can just say they are "illegal" if they don't do what you say. They have to work. Also, the very proximity of different ethnic groups is known to cause strife anyway. Capitalists know these things and that's why they implement them, to break up people and make them unable to unify against injustice
I certainly appreciate your accurate depiction of exploitational use of the word "Illegal"! Very insightful and your face conveys the sincerity!
However, it is also necessary to directly make the connection between that and 'Mexicans' - and 'Mexicans' suffering. That is the 800 lb elephant in the room, and not referencing it is a racial disrespect.
African-Americans do not walk around with the constant racist burden of "Illegal Immigrant" on their back, Mexican-Americans do, 24/7. Peace.
You are making a feeble attempt at rationalizing the bad behavior of illegal aliens.
Let me explain this another way. Anyone who enters our nation without authorization, and without the uniform of an enemy combatant can be charged as a SPY. And the penalty for spying is DEATH!
Entering our nation is a CRIME... hence the person is a CRIMinal.
Are you too dense with hate to understand the truth?
That is the most ignorant argument I have heard on the issue. Please tell me where in the US constitution it states this. Or any supreme court cases that support this? Or any cases for that matter.
It is simple, being undocumented in the USA is not a criminal offense It is a civil offense. It is very similar (as far as the law is concerned) to speeding or running a red stop light.
So if you want to criminalize a whole cross section of the public who have not committed a criminal offense then it only shows your ignorance on the subject of immigration and the US Constitution.
Learn the history of the USA as it pertains to immigration law. Dont be a idiot out there fighting for his opinions based solely on ignorance.
@MissouriManiac I agree, entering the country illegally is like a speeding ticket. People who do so should be fined $500, which is actually part of immigration law, and sent back to their country of origin. It is important to meet any violation of law with the legal and appropriate response.
@bushmaster666666 - Breaking into our country? LOL. You do realize a huge number of these folks came to the USA legally and stayed after their VISA expired, right? There was no "breaking into" going on in these cases. This is a perfect example of why the media loves the term "illegals". It sounds much scarier than "illegal alien" or "undocumented immigrant". "Breaking into..." sounds far more exciting than "overstayed their VISA".
Supreme Court cases on First Amendment rights repeatedly refer to the 5th and 14th Amendments to provide guidance based on the principle of Equal Protection. In other words, the Equal Protection clause helps extend First Amendment protections for everyone protected by the 5th and 14th Amendments. Since the Court has ruled that illegal aliens are protected by the 5th and 14th Amendments, they also have First Amendment rights.
In fact, in the Plyler V. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), the Supreme Court struck down a Texas law prohibiting enrollment of illegal aliens in public school. In its ruling, the Court said: The illegal aliens who are plaintiffs in these cases challenging the statute may claim the benefit of the Equal Protection Clause, which provides that no State shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Whatever his status under the immigration laws, an alien is a person in any ordinary sense of that term The undocumented status of these children vel non does not establish a sufficient rational basis for denying them benefits that the State affords other residents.
I agree that it's not always right what happens in those raids, or that these people don't get a hearing most of the time, but I don't think substituting the word "undocumented" for "illegal" really makes much of a difference. The problem lies a lot more in the legislation of immigration, and cracking down on employers that GIVE people reasons to come illegally. Acting out in violence against anybody is wrong, but splitting up families is inevitable when they make these kind of choices.
Great video. When we deny fairness to some people, we put all of our rights at risk so its really important to speak out now.
Check out our video on the Breakthrough channel to take action. Its time we stood together to bring back the values that America has always stood for and imbibed
Seriously, to support people implies they're not making it on their own; many hold steady jobs sometimes two or three, they even pay taxes. Those who don't have jobs make their own jobs selling oranges flowers, etc. and are still hated on, the word here is "hate"; when will it stop?
We cannot support the poor of the entire world! We cannot simply allow anyone who wants to to come to OUR nation and receive the benefits of citizenship. The use of simple logic proves these statements TRUE!
Hunger does not result from lack of food, but from some disruption in a particular people's food distribution, usually resulting from poverty, military conflict, or the denial of food to people as a weapon of denial during war or as political pressure against a given group. There is enough food available in the world to provide over four pounds of food to every person every day. Most cases of 'chronic' malnutrition result from problems in the distribution of a nation's wealth and resources.
The USA can produce more than enough food to feed the world,
Farmers are paid not to farm in the USA because of the excess of food would disrupt the prices.
There is more than enough grains alone to feed everyone in the world for a year stored around the world, The reason it is stored is because the price of grain would fall through the floor.
We live in the greatest country in the world, And Yes we could feed the world. To say otherwise is being uneducated about the subject.
The only illegals are the europeans who invaded our lands. Our ancestors are from here, our blood. Yours are from other side of the ocean. Whose the real wetback?
As both religion and evolution conclude that the human race started somewhere in Africa there are NO INDIGENOUS people of the Americas. Since the dawn of man wars have decided what belongs to whom and who is in control. Apparently you are descended from the LOSERS . TOO BAD FOR YOU AND YOURS! I am from NYC and want the IAs from all six inhabited continents to be removed. That is not racist it is simply a desire for OUR LAWS to be enforced.
@ratbstard718 Ms. Sen never said that America should give every undocumented immigrant citizenship. But that doesn't justify brutal treatment of UI, and it doesn't justify the demonization of UI or anyone assumed to be one. Just because you came out of a vagina on American soil doesn't make you a better person, a more moral person, a harder worker, or more deserving of respect and kindness than someone who wasn't.
We should provide amnesty for those now working in America and make immigration easier for those who want/need to come in the future, under certain circumstances. My g.parents on both sides were immigrants. It was much easier then. I'll bet most people here descended from immigrants. That's one thing that makes our country great. Illegal immigrants are often exploited by their employers. Most come to provide for their families. Don't forget, many pay into SS and will never be able to draw on it
You won't find racism in Islam. Islam teaches us that no matter what color you are, Black, White, Grey, Blue or even Green you are not diffrent from each other except by Taqwa (Obedience to God).
Don't take my last statement out of context either, "immigrants" not illegal have brought so much to our country as far as science, culture, technology, etc.

"Dehumanization" and "exploitation" and "people of color" are lefty buzzwords. Be aware of this. It's PC talk.

When you use the term "Illegal" as a noun you are criminalizing the person and not crime they supposedly committed.
In simple it is hate speech.
You dont hear people going around calling speeders "Illegal Drivers".
It is not a criminal offense to be in the USA undocumented.
MissouriManiac 2 years ago
"It is not a criminal offense to be in the USA undocumented."
Breaking into the US without authorization is a "crime". Therefore the people who do it are called "criminals".
"You dont hear people going around calling speeders "Illegal Drivers"."
Breaking into our country is far more serious that speeding.
bushmaster666666 2 years ago
@bushmaster666666
Being undocumented in the USA is a Misdemeanor. Not a criminal offense.
Speeding is a Misdemeanor.
Being undocumented in the USA falls under administrative law not criminal.
Do you comprehend the difference or should I elaborate?

Yes we can,
We are the USA and we can do anything that we set our minds too.
The USA is the greatest country in the world we make enough food to feed the world.
We pay farmers not to farm because we have too much food.
So in simple Yes the USA could end starvation in the world.
Doing so would have some ill effects but the advantages would far outweigh them.
MissouriManiac 2 years ago
We couldn't end starvation. We can't even feed everyone in our own Country with the crops and livestock we produce.
