It is simple, being undocumented in the USA is not a criminal offense It is a civil offense. It is very similar (as far as the law is concerned) to speeding or running a red stop light.

I agree that it's not always right what happens in those raids, or that these people don't get a hearing most of the time, but I don't think substituting the word "undocumented" for "illegal" really makes much of a difference. The problem lies a lot more in the legislation of immigration, and cracking down on employers that GIVE people reasons to come illegally. Acting out in violence against anybody is wrong, but splitting up families is inevitable when they make these kind of choices.

We should provide amnesty for those now working in America and make immigration easier for those who want/need to come in the future, under certain circumstances. My g.parents on both sides were immigrants. It was much easier then. I'll bet most people here descended from immigrants. That's one thing that makes our country great. Illegal immigrants are often exploited by their employers. Most come to provide for their families. Don't forget, many pay into SS and will never be able to draw on it
