Those of us living in peaceful societies can't in anyway understand or compare these people's views to your own.
I have seen rich modern western cities fall into conflict where two sides fight, bomb and kill their own neighbours who they once used to be friends with. The hate is driven by fear...fear that if they don't strike then the other side will.
