Under ideal conditions, such as downhill, cool conditions or with a tail wind they can hit the 299 limit but will go no further. What a joke. They trusted the stock instruments to collect data. This is a nearly imbecilic flaw. They needed to use the same instrument to measure speed on both vehicles, such as radar, gps, time over distance, timing lights etc. Motorcycles can have up to 10% optimism on the speedometers, some cars are similar, especially if wheel diameters and gearing are nonstock. How hard is it to do this right? Regardless of the result, the data needs to be collected properly.
@britishbikes12 Definitely agree. My bike was off 6mph at 80mph. had to do 86 to actually be running 80. And in cars I've had variances of 10mph at 60-70 depending on wheel sizes and such.

@cosmopik08 No, 2000. All Japanese stock big bikes have been speed limited to 299 kph since 2001. If limiter removed or gearing changed then they are no longer stock. So GSXR 100 Suzuki, Honda Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX10 and Yamaha R1 all are between 280 and 295 kph. Under ideal conditions, such as downhill, cool conditions or with a tail wind they can hit the 299 limit but will go no further. The others such as the ZX12R, ZX14 and post 2001 Hayabusa's can all reach 299 in favorable conditions.

What a joke. They trusted the stock instruments to collect data. This is a nearly imbecilic flaw. They needed to use the same instrument to measure speed on both vehicles, such as radar, gps, time over distance, timing lights etc. Motorcycles can have up to 10% optimism on the speedometers, some cars are similar, especially if wheel diameters and gearing are nonstock. How hard is it to do this right? Regardless of the result, the data needs to be collected properly.
