Here's my tip to share...I have a thing for boxes...so at work, when a box that our printer machine paper comes in is ready to be pitched...I take it and put the lid of the box on the bottom of it for more reinforcement...and use it to put my lids in...I just slide it in and out of my cabinet when I need a lid...all the lids stay contained in one box and I just pull out what I need and then slide the box back into the cabinet. I do this for all my plastic ware too.
@shanana000 ~ Fantastic tip!! Very frugal and a great use of re-purposing something that most people would either toss or at best recycle! Thanks for sharing this! It may be helpful to someone who can't do what I showed.
@princesstootsweet3 ~ Hi! Wow I wish I could remember....my son still has the CD so I can't find the list of songs, but I KNOW it's Motzart. (o: That may not be as helpful... When I get the CD back I'll look and let you know. Hmmm wonder when that will happen?...this video is 3 years old (yep, my grandfather just turned 100!!) and my son still has my CD!
Maybe you can search some Motzart and find it before I do! (o:
We do this slightly different and its even $2.50 cheaper, Stack the lids on top of your pans, Inverted, then your pans stack neatly and you can always find the lids, Unless of cause you hang your pans then this is a great tip thanks
@Nathan5561 ~ Sorry not to reply sooner - I'm not getting notices for some reason!
We've tried this, and likely it's the one who puts the dishes away that finds this frustrating and puts lids 'wherever'...so then we lose them. But, if it works for someone else...yep, it sure is cheaper! (o:
@hipretty ~ Just an idea, but the same basic concept. A slightly shorter piece of elastic, and a hook/eye combo on one side. Just thread the elastic through the lid handle and let it snugly hold it to your cabinet door.
You could try one for less than a few pennies and see if it worked. You may have to sew (which makes me shudder) the one end on, but it would still be the same space saving option to use your cabinet doors.
@Lookdownhereiam - I think I got this at Walmart in the sewing/craft section in a small container that was hanging on a wall display like near the velcro. It is typically a waist band for clothing. But so many people don't sew any more that it is easier found in crafts.
This is a great idea! Unfortunately I only have ridiculously small cabinets so it won't work, but I am going to expand my thinking on how I can do something similar.
@hardyfamily99 - hmmmmmm - what about the back of a door that is usually open or a wall space beside the fridge or something? I dunno..... I've hung one at a time (not so long a strip of elastic) one higher than the other so it looked like an equals sign on the cabinet door inside = .
I've even seen those coat-hangers that the bottom cardboard tube comes out of (the kind that used to be sent home from drycleaners) the towels fit and can be moved around for where they are used.
Thank you! I have been pondering ideas to store lids since I organized the kitchen (which was previously a bachelor pad for my now husband) a couple of weeks ago! That really helps.
I saw a cool thing on Hgtv where they took the lids to jars and glued or screwed them underneath a cabinet. Then they just screwed the jars to the lids and they were in their place and off of the counter top.. wish I could do that, but I rent.

@iloveyadin21 ~ Thanks! I wish we could re-do it, but alas it will have to stay as it is... Hopefully at least the idea and point get across.

That's a great idea... if your lids have a knob...if your lids have a handle what can you do? I guess I am stuck buying the 75 dollar thingie

Where can the elastic be purchased? A Craft store? What is that elastic typically used for?

Yeah, my Grandma Mollie still hangs her paper towels on a little clothes line above her sink. I wouldn't have it any other way =).

Hahah - I saw that one too! We use that in the shed and pump-house for tiny things that get lost for the beekeeping and woodshed!
Hadn't thought of using it inside for anything that I keep though....hmmmm....time to get the gears going.....Thanks!!! (o:

great idea but say it with less words, it took so long to get to the idea thanks for posting, willthat work for plastic lids?
SoliloquybyNature 3 years ago
We use zip lock bags for small size lids (3-4inch) inside a deep drawer (file cabinet type) of all other plastic lids set up on edge (like files).
Hope that helps.
Sorry - I do tend to ramble at times.
