  • Thanks for the vid I've worked on the fv Excalibur for six years. Stocks are strong the regulations are strict times are changing for young fisherman to get into the business but there is a lot fish around. Thanks for the support in our industry.

  • seals sea lions are most responsible for any decline in near coastal fish species in nor cal oregon and washington and alaska, the pacific nor west fishing industry is in no current danger except from the lies of peta etc that say there is no fish, theres as many fish as was before men came here, but our only threat to near coastal fishes like salmonoids (salmon) are from the epidemic levels of overpopulation of seals sea lions (pinnipeds) kill seals save fish amd fishermen

  • do u need a crew member i need a job asap!

  • how long ago was that accident, i crab out of newport and dutch every year....

  • I really enjoyed this video, it is very refreshing to hear a real story. Thank you for uploading this video. =)

  • Yayyy Oregon <3 be evergreen always. Hooray! for the fishermen thanks for the delicious seafood! Much love

  • The stocks decline because they are OVERFISHED by boat captains that take take take and give nothing back.

  • Why on earth do we as a sovereign nation allow foreign fishermen to come in and even dredge the bottom of our fisheries? I doubt many of them do. We spend billions on defense and offense yet we allow everyone to do whatever they like to us and spit in our face as they do it.

  • haha i live on vancover island and fish in the same spot

  • THE most dangerous career statistically is a coal miner, and second is a longshoreman!

  • nice video pal respect

  • It's A Dangerous Job... and They knew it. So they took teh Risk, it's Probalty a Good pay Also ´:D

  • canadian?

  • Canadian?

  • why do the foreign fisherman vessels get to fish our seas? We are not allowed in thier waters are we? Isn't there laws that protect that kind of thing? Forgive me if I sound ignorant, I really know nothing about deepwater, or commercial fishing, but it has alway captivated me, because of the risk these fishermen take and I lived in Coos Bay as a little girl.

  • that's why they get paid so much.

  • nice vid & thanks for the support!

    fishing is not a crime!!

  • Great Video. I grew up on a commercial fishing boat in Bandon, Oregon. It's a special group of people who work the oceans and deliver the wonders of the sea.

  • I fish out of Newport, and i wanted to thank you for this clip. Ive lost many friends over the last 13 years of my life. Plz keep your prayers with us and we will continue to harvest the bounty, putting the delight of seafood on your tables. Thank you again

  • my friends dad was on that ship. it sucked when i heard about it.

  • thank you to you and your wife! Great images, VERY well done, she has talent!!! And you added a great commentary fishermen, an ancient job, and the risks they take.

  • I was a shrimp boat captain by the time I was 14, I am 53 now and the shrimp boat I own is tied to the dock

  • Is that because of overfishing or pollution or even both?

  • where in newport if so what boat ive done trips on most of them over the years here

  • thats amazing that its tied to the dock like that. wow!

  • @luckydaze13 captain @ 14 really?

  • love the video hits home Im a commercial fisherman in Port Orford we lost a 4man crew in 06 tough to have happen but nature of the obsession

  • I recently visited the Fisherman's memorial there at Yaquina Bay State Park. Between that, watching Deadliest Catch and this video I have a definite respect for those fishermen and women who risk their lives to put the food on our tables.

  • thanks for your good opinion about us fisherman roger tuna fisherman from oz

  • OK we got the buck 40 wheres the sfuff thats under the table or did the legs fall off that to

  • no fools here just telling it like it is when it,s in front of u u can,t help from seeing it can we

  • or is it like this give the big money to the ones who,ll spend the rest of the summer in the clubs partying all night and piss it out in the sewer tanks like before and someone esles have nothing i think it,s time for some to WAKE UP

  • maybe if we made out boats bigger we would get that money thats down under the table let in the outside buyers that might WAKE THEM UP come on harper open your eyes we all got kids to feed

  • here in newfoundland if your a independent fisherman right now your what we call FUCKED because those fish processors think they own the crab fishery but they are forgetting that we fishermen have the liences i think their processing liences should be took away from them and give to some one who will treat people right get them the fuck out before theres nothing left thats were the trouble is they have to go to fix our fishery here we have 2 or 3 processors who thinks their the boss WAKE UP

  • I myself am a commercial fisherman out of Newport. I am the only deckhand on the vessel Blanco Girl and my dad is the captain. I'm 15 years old, I have been fishing my whole life and I love it. My dad is a true fisherman for sure, and two men owe their lives to them. Back in the 80's a 43 foot wood crab boat capsized 4 miles off of Newport. My dad was crabbing a mile south of them, He dropped his current gear back in the water and raced toward the boat. He was able to retrieve both men safely

  • We also own many other vessels that you might happen to come across if your in town. They are:

Blanco Girl (Embarcadero Marina, B Dock)

    Blue Belle (Port Dock 5)

Magic (South Beach Marina D Dock)

Retriever (Embarcadero Marina, D Dock ((Name Not On Vessel, Its Bright Red 24 Foot)) )

    Gary Lee (Port Dock 3)

    I Myself own 3 boats,

    Top Gun (On Trailer)

    Midnight Glass (On Trailer)

    Tera Bera (On Trailer)

  • I hate to see the loss of my seafaring bretheren god bless and godspeed. And yes fishing is dangerous have lost friends and more there...respect and condolences. Thanx to the commentator for his praise keep the tradition all of you!

  • Thanks god bless you guy's......

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO

  • How is business for you these days? Has your fishery been impacted like the west coast has been with declining stocks?

  • Some fish stocks are strong thanks to conservation but imports is hurting the fish market bad

  • @JCVdude there are no declining stocks in pacific nor west. the only threats to near coastal fisherys are seal over population and govt closures of the fishermans grounds and methods then after taking away his area and methods the following years catch rate is lower not because fish werent there any more but becazuse all the fish are always caught in tiny area they take away there areas make them sanctuarys then after next years lower rate of catch they say its lowest ever must close its lies

  • Thanks for your video.

I am a crabber in Oregon. I hope more people will learn about the ocean and the people that work on her, and how important it is to practice conservancy. And that can be done from anywhere not just at the Ocean itself.
