I own the Pontiac GXP. The HUD ties in my GPS (countdown to turn, street name and directional arrow) my XM/radio (name and number of station) and of course the speedo and compass readings, termp and which gear I'm in. (Since I have tap shifters on the steering wheel, in addition to the radio controls, that's very handy.) When I get "special interest" msgs (e.g. Low Fuel) they pop up as well. I FRICKIN' LOVE THIS FEATURE! Problem: No longer made...except on the 'Vette and Camaro. Pontiac's dead!
@jaydenfre2413 Simple. As this technology becomes more common prices are likely to fall with increases in supply. Higher end Car HUD's will be created to replace old outdated models which will become cheap. Enventually these cheap products will outshine the prototype you see above, perhaps by a large margin too.
Good for old people or uncertain drivers other then that just another toy. Get some proper driver training and this becomes for the most part an expensive toy. IMHO
Love it. I'm pretty sure this is be optional, not standard and have the ability to turn off. If you're in snow, fog, or looking where exactly where that house is after your GPS says 'you have arrived' at a vague place. Car enthusiasta may not like it, but it will help prevent a teenage girl texting while talking to friends with a bit of driving from veering off into a ditch, bouncing back and hitting you.
I love the HUD on my 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. I never have to look down at the speedometer because my speed is always on the windshield. Makes driving as a 19 year old so much safer.
Seems like too much of a distraction with multiple things going on at once on the windshield. Technology overkill if ask me. It just baffles my mind why automakers feel the need to take the complete.. "one with the road".. driving experience out of the hands of the driver and hand it over to on-board computers making it feel video game synthetic.
thousands of car accidents a month sound like good reason. this technology might be at its infancy right now, but someday it will project a crystal clear picture on the windshield and more. it will "retouche" in real time bad weather, too bright sunlight, everything that puts a strain on the human eye.
@ReSanSax Of course, majority of traffic fatalities are due to human error. Most accidents are due to speeding, drinking, or lack absent-mindedness. Engine failure or any sort of car malfunction can certainly lead to an untimely death, however is rare when compared to the other three possibilities listed above. Car HUD's such as this will minimize the dangers of driving by warning us of potential hazards on the road that we may otherwise ignore or not immediately react to.
@ReSanSax Definitely true, information overload can be a factor for anyone especially less with some people becoming less and less tech savvy these days (more people are becoming users and not caring about what really goes on behind the scenes). However, I think it's still a bigger benefit in that with it, you don't have to look down and away from the road anymore if you want to check the parameters of anything, which is more dangerous than looking at a HUD in my opinion.
@ReSanSax You know how there are accidents? That's why. We fuck up our driving way more often than there is any reason to. This can be used to make driving so much safer than it is already. It's not "video game synthetic", it's a matter of making the things you need to see more obvious. Did you notice how the edge of the road was highlighted in poor visibility conditions? That's exactly the sort of problem that this fixes.
This will save and enhance the life's of drivers everywhere.

Seems like you're doing a sells commercial.
Thought this is pretty cool, I'm looking forward for fully colored HUD, such as a transparent OLED screen warped around the windshield.
I know full color isn't necessary, but sill.

@ReSanSax because most people just want to get from a to b. The rest, like myself, buy older muscle cars.
