In 1992 the Isles, Rangers and Flyers Alumni had a mini tournament at Nassau Coliseum. Before the games they introduced all the players. When The Isles players were being announced all the players on the other teams would slap their sticks on the ice in a form of applause. When Smith was announced some of the players did not slap their sticks at all. One of them was Bob Kelly. He and Smith hated each other.
