  • Outstanding!

  • Where is this young man now? Is he still singing? I hope so....

  • I don't know if I'm being over emotional... but htis kind of wanted to make me cry. So beautiful!

  • love this rendition and the goonies shirt. bravo zulu!

  • Wonderful, fellas!! Wonderful!! I am a 40 year old man and alumni from Harvard and I must tip my hap to you. Beautiful!! Could not be better! Well done, lads!!

  • I want to find this guy.

  • wow. that was splendid.

  • this is a brilliant performance and makes me very happy - thanks guys

  • Great rendition fellas. Well done. Drinking a pint to your fine performance!

  • I'm proud to be a McPherson! As my father James Mcpherson, and his father's before him! I'm also proud to be an O'Shea! Scotland and Ireland Rock!

  • I CAN'T DEAL. Q JR HAS A BEAUTIFUL SINGING VOICE.

  • James McPherson is my grandfather several times removed - hanged in Banff in 1700

  • seems the most fitting rendition of this song

  • Incredible.

  • Auto-tuned. Soloist is good. Get real.

  • Brilliant version, well done

  • BAGPIPE WIN

  • As a Macpherson and life member of the Clan Macpherson Assocation US and Scotkland. this is, in my opinion the best performance of the Lament ever

RT, Olympia, Former Commissioner, Pac. No. Region.

  • @macbeardi As a McPherson I agree with you! It's my favorite. I didn't think it could be performed so beautifully! I love it!

  • what the heck is that?

  • I am friends with Keegan's dad John de Lancie who played Q on the 3 Star Trek series. I know Keegan and he is Brilliant. It is a blessings to know him. PS we are sailing to Tahiti together in 2011.......8-)

  • Man !..... I'd Pay to hear that.

  • The soloist is in Star Trek so he automatically wins!!!! But either way he's AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  • I love this performance.... but why are some people at different places wearing different things one second and completely different another.

More importantly how did you splice the video together so well? and why? and how many times was this performed for this video?

  • I recorded 2 live performances. The match was possible by using only a single audio track and then changing the frame speed on the video only when needed for the mouth match( Final Cut) Obviously, the singers didn;t know that this was going to happen or they would have worn the same thing (and not changed places!)

  • @roxydakota I didn't even notice. At what point does their clothing change in the video?

  • Just noticed that sometimes people are standing next to different people with different camera angles as well as wearing a different shirt...

  • Thank You from a True MacPherson.........well done young lad.

  • Beautifully done, but the lead singer keeps oscillating back and forth between an American accent and broad Scots in a way that's kind of jarring.

    But I'm just nitpicking...

  • he's in star trek, therefore he wins. accent going back and forth or not.

  • I just can't believe - this is pure, pure performance GOLD. I'm just like, going from song to song of these random UNC muffers - and it's just beautiful, thrilling, amazing stuff that doesn't even give you a headache like these usually do!

I mean, these guys do know just how incredible they are? It's so unfair, I even want to live in Yankland so I can just sit on an uncomfortable chair and LISTEN TO THEM.

Achordants - come to London oh please.

  • i totally agree we need them in london!!

im steadily becoming obsessed with them they r so talented brilliant ..and cute ;)

  • 1:14 LION ATTACK!!!!! LOL

  • haha he looks like the wee timid lion man from the wizard of oz.

  • I live a few miles from this bridge that these lads are singing , yes i'm a scot, and yes macpherson was true to form although you dont tell my wife, alas she is a Banfer. Ooooh she'll kill me. Hendry Peck signing out.

  • I don't think I've ever heard acapella bagpipes before.

    Astonishingly wonderful!

  • Goosebumps!

  • a true Q quality xD

  • truely amazing!

  • GOONIES - you legend

:) i like you more now

  • Amazing - wish we had male singers like you in Australia

    Keep it up cuties :)

  • Holy hell! I got goose bumps!

  • I've seen this a fair amount of times now, and I ket wondering why the soloists background kept changing and then it hit me; this video was spliced from two separate performances, but the same concert...what's with that?

  • its just the angle of the camera changing when it zooms in on the soloist. if you watch the back row you can tell

  • Makes me proud to be a MacPherson!!!

    Fiona MacPherson

  • Heh, Q's son is a great singer. He deserves to be known for it. Not only as Q's son. *Smirks*

  • Im a MacPherson!!!

  • I'm enchanted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Lovely singing, and I love the effect to make the bagpipe-drone kind of sound! For a minute it really didn't sound like human voices!

  • Superb.

  • Keegan really sings well in this song. I think he has a future in singing folk music. This really does make me think fondly of my Scottish heritage.

  • Well, that's the first time I ever saw a foreign outfit bring out the full zest & spirit of this song. Really takes me back to those childhood hogmanays and our neighbour whose specialty this was.

  • The Anchordants are the only good thing to ever come out of UNC. EVER.

  • excuse my ignorance bit fit dis UNC stand for, I think the lads are bloody great min.

  • University of North Carolina.

  • You got to be kidding me?! That was insane! With each song The Anchordants continue to prove how amazing they truly are. Far better than any other.

  • wow! that was the best a capella performance I've ever seen! I love the sound!

  • a very good version of this song as good as the corries

  • I really wish there was an MP3 version of this song...

  • There isn't... but I have the means to make one.

  • Bset version ewver of this song. What a vocalist ! He's a great storyteller with his eyes!

  • Thank You..............from a Macpherson!

  • the best version of the song i ve ever heard! :D

  • very cool

we just learned this song in music and i have to sing the solo

  • really doesn't look like he's singing live

  • I have never heard this song sung so well. There was something magical about the way it was sung, brought a tear to the eye.

Alba gu brath agus Saor Alba

  • i wish i could sing like that lead singer!!!!

  • Ill break her through the middle

He took the fiddle intae baith o his hands,

And broke it over a stone,

Saying no anither hand shall play on thee,

When I am dead and gone.

The repreive was coming ower the Bridge o Banff,

    tae set Macpherson free,

But they put the clock a quarter before,

And hanged him tae the tree.

  • Farewell ye dungeons dark and strong, farewell,Farewell tae thee, Macphersons time will no be long, On yonder gallows tree. It was by a womans treacherous hands, That I was condemned tae dee, She stood abune a window ledge, And a blanket threw ower me. Twas the laird o grant that heiland saunt, That first laid hands on me, He pleads the cause o Peter Broon, Tae let Macpherson dee. Theres some come here tae see me hanged, And some tae buy my fiddle, Before that I dae part wi her,
  • wow. their tonality is great! what a fantastic group

  • This is great

  • Great song well done don't give a toss about is he there is he no Well done

  • does anyone notice that in the different shots there are different ppl. In the close up, the guy in the brown striped shift is there, later he is not. The black guy in white is also behind him in the close shot, but then he is further to the left and in blue. At first i thought they were twins.

  • Wow, good call, there are completely different people, not just the two that you mentioned.

  • it's just the way the video was made. 2 diff. performances. just so the mouths match with the audio. kick ass song tho

  • HOLY SHIT, how did they get wolfman in there?? lol.. I wish i could sing in bass, i can only hit a low A, in bass, but thats not that low..

  • Amazing. Enough said. I really wish they had a CD with this song on it, was done beautifully~

  • They do :) google them

  • A+ for effort,

i just doubt any of those lads know what they're singing about though...

A+ for effort though - they're sound sounded very good though!

  • they might do, some could be Scottish and it's a scottish song.

  • Oh my god, they're so good.

  • Ok Im commenting, AGAIN! I was reading the other comments and I have a question for anyone who knows the answer, do these guy like, ALWAYS sing? Like a group I mean. • WOW! He's really good! I like this song now even though i have NO IDEA what he's saying! YAY KEEGAN!

  • wow. Ingenious idea on how to reproduce the bagpipe sound there. Just incredible.

  • Is this an irish song?

  • No this is a Scottish song.

  • I've listened to this at least once a week since I came upon it last year. Like Soldierside, I too get chill bumps when I hear it. As a lover of Celtic music, I wish The Achordants would sing more Celtic tunes. Please?

  • i was wondering where i saw him before. i love him!

  • Yeah and he is Q's (John De Lancie) real son, which is funny. They do indeed do a great job with this song, and yes, they should do more celtic songs...They have the voices for them.

    They're DAMN amazing!

  • It's amazing how they can imitate the sound of bagpipes so well. I started playing it, and my mother was like "Are those BAGPIPES?!?"

    They're DAMN amazing!

  • amazing soloist. perfect voice for this song

  • I love this video and listen to it, as well as the Don't Stop Me Now video, daily. It's amazing that one group can have more than one member capable of outstanding solo performance in a completely different genre. It shows group versatility, and it's really cool. And I can't even begin to imagine how human voices made that bagpipe sound. Freaking awesome.

  • you guys should do something like Danny Boy or Loch Lomond

  • i must get the mp3 file for this

  • The Achordants always leave me breathless...

  • no, cuaidh, stop polluting the minds of youtube viewers

  • Fucking badass, guys.

  • Very good!

  • thanks for posting. what a great song! wish i could rate it more than 5 out of 5 absolutely sensational..thankyou

  • I'd love to see this group do "Phil The Fluters Ball" for St. pattys day. My choir did the Kings Choir version. The soloist has the right voice to do Irish Music; lovely Irish tenor sound. I wish the Achordants would come to my area; but I am clear across the country from their neck of the woods. :(

  • I melt! This group of achordants are amazing.

  • what is this song? I don't know it :(

  • It's an old Scottish song about James MacPherson who is said to have written this before he was hanged for a crime he didn't commit. Have a wee look on Google :)

  • Tks, I will search :D:D

  • i'm a big fan of the guy to the right of the soloist with the goonies shirt. he looks like he's having so much fun but trying to conceal it so he doesn't look like a smiling idiot. it's cute and i can definitely relate. haha.
