I've used one of these before, and if anyone is thinking of buying one, i'll tell you now, go down to the supermarket, and buy yourself a bag of drinking straws...works just as good. Put the money u save into buying some quality fins or something. But training is the best training.
@cavaco4 no, that's different, using straws is oxygen restriction, the expand-a-lung is resistance training for the lungs... sort of like weight training, but for the lungs.
Having done absolutely no research and just looking at what appears to be a snorkel mouthpiece with a screw valve, I'm guessing it restricts airflow such that you can suck less air in in a "normal" inhale and your body slowly compensates. It appears the same effect could be achieved by shoving some tissue up a nostril.
@sicknes96701 not sure specifically but I'd guess smoking slightly decreases the capacity of your lung in that it lines the alveoli with tar, but the real killer is the lining of tar which inhibits the O2 absorption into your blood.
@sicknes96701 I think we're branching off from the topic of the video here but I think it uncontroversial to state that smoking anything through burning is not great for your lungs.
i have no opinion on this product, but have been training breathhold for a couple of years. My Personal Best is a dry static of 6:15.
Balfourism is right on one point, being relaxed is the sole key to holding your breath the longest.
i've expanded my lungs around 1 litre since i started, judging from the extra weight i need to apply to my neck weight, when i do underwater swimming (socalled DNF;DynamicNoFins) i think my expansion really started when i started to use packing.
WoW what a noob .. I haven't used that stupid thing and now im up to 2:51 .... and i started from about 1:20... soo I got no clue what u are on about...... this piece of equipment is not needed... U need to know how to breath properly and maintain being relaxed........
So glad I came upon this. Thanks bro, I'm getting ready to go into the seals and knowing about that device is going to GREATLY increase my lung capacity during the 50 meter underwater swim and other underwater evolutions. thank you
Expand a lung is what its called. You can google it and the website will come up. I had trouble buying mine from their website so I got it through a triathlon sport website.
Im supposed to get it this week. Im trying to do a 50 meter underwater swim. hopefully this will help.
so how do you use it ? just by putting it in your mouth and then breath ?? please help !!

Smoking probably decreases your lung capacity right?

@anomalousresult thanks just wanted to know

... or you could just use your lips or a straw to limit the air flow for the same effect.

So I guess he invented that device and this was a lousy commercial because he mentioned no other technique to hold your breath longer except cardio??

The expand-a-lung is such a waste of money. It doesn't even work that great but if you really want one, use a straw and bend it.
