The thing that most people fail to realize is that Katanas were made to cut through flesh, silk, and possibly bamboo armor, tightly bound together by metal rings and rivets. It could not cut through ringmail, or chainmail. It was proven that none of the weapons that the Samurai brought to the fight in DW could pierce Viking armor. I am in no way saying the longsword is a superior weapon. I'm just saying that there is a very slim chance a samurai could beat a raged out Viking.
@SonOfTheMorrigan this is both correct and incorrect, being a dark ages society the vikings used plain iron to manufacture their weapons and armour. the samurai on the other hand were around for a lot longer and their typical weapon (the katan/tachii)
was made of steel, which has generally more desirable qualities in a weapon. furthermore samurai armour was not just "silk and possibly bamboo armour" but was actually iron or steel plates sewn or rivited to a mounting(which could be bamboo/wood)
I think it make perfect sense that hacking would be more effective against bone (or any other rigid material; armor) than slicing, anybody can try it at home with a kitchen knife. Hence the superiority of the longsword to the katana against rigid materials....
Now I guess you can also pure on hack with the katana like a baseball bat, but that wouldn't be proper kendo technique.
The strength of the japanese sword comes from the technique the warrior is using not from brute force. It doesn't seem to me that you have a lot of knowledge of the kenjutsu techniques and that would explain the poor results of the Katana
@MrBuster128 I woud make the comparison with the karateka breaking planks bare hands, you need training but you achieve more power. Samurai were trained very young so it was convenient for them. and have a look of some video with Isao Machii
@MrBuster128 not true, any sword requires correct technique in order to maxamise its lethality, the longsword/broadsword has the advantage in mass and bludgeoning force as well as its combined ablility to slash, hack or stab. but the katana is lighter and allows for a faster swing, plus it has the advantages of a curved blade(which has better cutting properties generaly speaking)
Hehe, if you are unlucky, both swords can cut a man in half. I don't know which one I would prefer, I kinda like the old viking design as well as the katana. :)
I see some people are trying to use Locked N Loaded as fact, and that's just all kinds of fail. That was basically just a gloried circle jerk for the Katana. Using a flimsy piece of metal and butted mail is an insult to European armor. Funny thing is, numerous Japanese warlords started using various piece of European armor because it offered better protection against swords, spears, and most importantly, firearms. The Weeaboo Katana fantasy really needs to be putt to rest.
@ThegnThrand who needs a sword and shield when you are a samurai lol or ninja :D ive seen a live demo of both those and a chinese sword whi was the best.
This is Eldgrimr. Thrand and I have acquired a new camera. New video series coming out soon. Thrand will be on the Deadliest Podcast with Jay and Kirby. Just google Deadliest Podcast and you'll find a link to jay and kirby productions. The message board has a thread titled Jay and Kirby are going to talk to Thrand.
Hey every won who ever Doubted me or likes my videos googe the Deadliest Warrior pod cast and listen to the latest Casey Hendershot Pod Cast .That is the Deadliest Warrior Pod Cast google it :P
@Frenchsniper77 Well that's different. In the show the pigs were positioned perfectly on top of each other and the Samurai struck directly downwards, getting a lot of help from gravity. This meatslab was suspended from a rope and cut diagonally and met resistance from the bones.
@TheScandinavianOne verry tru but the also teste it on bamboo mats that had the resistance of flesh, and bone, and they would testit on corpses. but u have a point on the ravity thing. i my karate dojo they would practice that 2
@Frenchsniper77 Roughly the same density of flesh, yes. But let's not forget that the tatami mats are completely free of anything that emulates bone or tendons.
@TheScandinavianOne yes ur rite but in the show they forgot to put bamboo in the middle thet would represent bone and the rest would represent flesh and i take okanawen te karate
Still it's a lot harder to hack through a piece of meat that has several bones in it as opposed to hacking through a Tatami mat. Especially if you have several of them instead of one thick one.
these videos are even more rubbish then deadliest warrior. how suggestive can it get?
what sort of katana are you using actually? a replica? beat it on concrete all day long? sorry, i like both warriors but this looks stupid :P
id recommend checking out some other videos as well, to get a proper view. youll be amazed how well a katana slices AND stabs. like a plate mail or something? this show is really a laugh. nice for viking fans i guess. i almost stoppd being one because of this rubbish.
@TylerNessss What would beating a "real" katana on the concrete all day prove? The fact that the replica is made of homogenized steel and has less impurities? That the chisel edge doesn't allow for good flexibility except in the spine? I'm not that amazed, I've watched a lot of videos, frankly I just don't see any difference between either sword. To me the only difference betwixt the two is where the sweet spot is. Katana first six inches, arming/long.whatever sword, PoP.
Also, Slitherine Strategies is a video game company based in the UK that also makes tabletop games. I wouldn't be surprised if this 'computer program' is really just them punching numbers into a formula based on the tabletop games they make...
Tabletop games? No. The Simulation is, according to interviews given to Max Geiger and the SS forums, 50% backbone of a Real Time Strategy game and 50% custom code written by Max. It takes in the numbers taken from the real world testing and applies them to the (still quite accurate even to this day, and supposedly constantly updated) simulation programs to see who would win in a fight.
But it's not a tabletop game. Or an RPG. Or a series of dice rolls.
Unless we can get a Time Machine to pluck "Random Samurai 1" and "Random Viking 1" from Time and Space and make them fight to the death, or start using living human beings in a gladiatorial death sport, this is truly the closest we will ever be able to get to determining who would win.
Taking real data and numbers from the weapons, feeding them into a simulator (which is tested against known battles/death counts to ensure accuracy, as it already is), and then simulating the battle repeatedly.
@KnightValhalla yea but he can change the results at will or modify it so who he wants to win would win and half the time their info is wrong not only that i dont care who u are a long sword if made properly amnd historicaly will ALWAYS cut through harder material than a katana and that is because a katana was meant to cut flesh and not be used with just strength i dont like thrads form or the way he weilds it but he is right in this vid the longsword will cut into bone beter than the katana
@KnightValhalla I address this in my new Video series but guess you dint really watch them its locked n loaded right the long sword is later century and not the 9th century version. You are slow and behind the times I already disproved that in my other videos.
No...you haven't. I've seen all your videos. You've done no disproving of it. You've banged some weapons around on potlids, you've played around in your backyard, and you cheated on the orynx test, but you've proved nothing.
@KnightValhalla I know we dint do the ice thing but the katana is a poor design it had a very thick blade, on ice it acts like a splinting wedge but on armor makes it very difficult to slice through. It also acts as drag when going through a body. The long sword was thin meaning it goes though better but tends to slow down when it hits soft ice not wedging it enough to split it open the ice catches it .This is why in my video the long sword cut the bone clean and not split it like the katana:P
Actually it's because you cheated. You struck it first with the Katana, and then struck the SAME SPOT with the Longsword. Of course the Longsword would do more damage when you're striking a wound that's already been started.
@KnightValhalla hey stop ive seen thrads videos hundreds of times he dosent ''cheat'' and yes ice isnt hard i can swing a machety at ice and it shaters i can swing it at glass and the blade is dulled ive stuck toothpicks in ice with my hands the only reason the katan acut beter in ice is because of the curved blade and the armor thing on locked n loaded was bs so U need to stop lieing to urself the katana if horriblke against armor but well against raw flesh
@ThegnThrand i guss knightValhalla dosent relise the katna was never used against armor the samurai used the naginata or etc but keep makeing vids please lol i enjoy them and u give an excelent honest view of another opinion but like i said the katana was ment purly to cut flesh the long sword is good at both flesh and armor and bone (ps im not taliking out my ass ive used a long sword and i katana i perfer my katana but still against armor long sword is beter but katana is beter at flesh
@KnightValhalla Locked n Loaded, right? They used a hand-and-a-half thrusting sword, not a 9th century Viking longsword (much thicker than a thrusting sword). That whole show was just a big commercial for overhyped Japanese weapons. Used butted mail to represent European armor and everything.
The Samurai/Spartan episode was bogus as well. The Dory spear breaks against the Samurai armor but it gets 339 kills in the sim? I know there are some points on the body armor doesn't cover, but that's ridiculous. They also didn't show how awkward the aspis really is in single combat and for some reason didn't at least use the stronger of the two Samurai 'experts'. The kanabo should have been discarded and the Yari used instead on both episodes.
The viking put up an intensely close fight, why complain so adamantly that they lost to a warrior with superior armor? Neither side was represented with 100% accuracy, but not even people spending their whole lives researching something could be entirely accurate without a time machine. Besides, it's all just a TV show, there's no need to spend so much time making angry videos.
Be happy that vikings even appeared on the show, and that they were true warriors in the real world!
Spear where the severe ass-whoopin comes in. Any random samurai using Hozoin spear beats any elite of the elite spear soldier throughout history. Of course thats an exaggeration, but one whos truly skilled in it is the closest thing to unbeatable there is in the old warrior kingdom. If I had to the means to demonstrate I would, as I'm sure I'll catch hell for that comment. Granted, I'm bias since I'm trained in Hozoin spear fighting, but that doesn't change anything.
Since the longsword is specifically designed for one hand, it's two fisted use with anything is leagues beyond Japanese two fisted styles. Sry Musashi/Yagyu/Myojinsoga lovers, but its the truth. Imo, longsword/hand axe combo is the closest thing to negating skill advantage with weapon type, superior to even various ninjutsu tactics short of chain weapons. Sword vs sword, even you have to admit a viking is outclassed without his sheild. No advantage to either side on special weapons(3).
A samurai would refuse to duel an opponent who brought a shield, as dueling was a spiritual thing and involved only a warrior and his weapon, no armor. Samurai saw sheilds as cowardly and would not honor one who carried it with a duel. A more fair trial would be to break down dueling styles. 1)Kat vs longsword, 2)Tachi/kat vs longsword and hand axe, 3)great axe vs naganata, and 4) spear vs spear. I hate this 500 limit... The only advantage to vikings is the sword axe combo.
I don't mean to insult you, but you technique with the katana is terrible. I f I wanted to disprove a weapon, I would use the one I liked better than the one I'm trying to discredit as well. Which is what I think is going on here, I doubt you, as weapons and historical enthusiest, even if you've never held a kat before, are so poorly skilled with the weapon. Also, why are you comparing swords? Only wealthy viks had swords (so I hear) and sam only used them in predetermined duels.
Spike TV has banned my account there again, the account was Konugrafgotu sorry about me unable to reply to you guys. Be sure send the the message what we think of them doing this to try to over look the mistakes I try to point out and set straight. I hate seeing history getting raped on this program.
@we465 No, retard. The viking was poorly represented. One of the viking "experts" had no combat training. And what proof do you have that samurai are clearly superior? Why couldn't it beat the Spartan if it's so great?
@EhSteve8690 the only reason it could not beat the Spartan was becuz the samurais kanabo could not break the spartan's bronze shield. You can't disagree with that.
@we465 Then how do you explain why the shield got the most kills against the ninja, but against the samurai, the spear got the most kills though it couldn't penetrate late-period samurai armor. Sounds like Max Geiger is using an RPG game for battles.
Learn how to wield a katana. Your soooo weak and you really don't know the technique. You just hit the carcuss and then look at it. That's why on the show they have EXPERTS people who know how to use the weapons
You guys need to do a video on Centurion vs. Rajput. I like DW, but honestly, they did a match with a Roman Centurion and didn't even test his shield... I mean come on, a Centurion without a shield is like a car without a key...
@kj7687 Deadliest Warrior : Thrand's reply to Roman Vs. Rajput 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 we did make but sorry we have not had time to do a full episode agin.
Just wondering, how would the great axe do against the katana? I saw the great axe vs the naginata, longsword/shield vs naginata, and longsword/shield vs katana.
@EhSteve8690 we do a lot of different test and demos in my other videos just go check them out.The great axe would have reach advantage for sure. The katana would be faster but do less damage.I would say if standard length katana Dane axe being light not a heavy weapon would have the advantage. The nodachi(Japanese great sword) or Naginata they did not use on DW would be fairly even though.
@TheManperson That because we wear helmets like our ancestors did.The Idea of no knock outs is absurd I have been knocked out in a war with pole arms before. The chin strap transfers the impact quite well straight to the jaw.The part I am agreeing with no deaths. The broken bones, sever bruising and knocks we do have.If you had no helmet the swords we use would kill out right to the head.
@TheManperson Well then lets suit up in armor and fight we will see who has better training. You would not speak them I am sure you would have to admit you have no combat knowledge nor training so you wouldn't dare do that would you? So my dear sir you are the one judging some one with no training nor skill are concept of true combat. If you want my history I will give it on the list field before you fall :P
@TheManperson The only reason why it is safer than MMA is the helmet if it was not the helmet we would have many fatalities. The blows we take to the body are more extreme than MMA I can assure this.Getting hit with a 3lbs to 5lbs 3' long piece of rattan 1"1/4 or 1"1/2 is more damaging than most blows in the MMA especially if you wear minimals as I do.The shield is another reason for less injuries as well it makes it way harder to get a good blow to vitals Although not every one uses them.
@TheManperson Lmao Manperson you really have studied it enough to know if I did or not ? Where did you get your training? I question this because your statements are so foolish about my stance and swing.First of all they are Kame or kamae, postures not stance.Second the term sword swing is not used in kenjutsu. There are names for each cut and not referred to as swings or swinging the blade. You know nothing of any fighting style do you except from movies and looking at pictures lol
@ThegnThrand Really great points Thrand; I heartly agree with you. I too am a member of the SCA and an enthusiest of western medieval times (I have a preference for English warriors from the end of the 11th century). I also teach martial arts classes, and have to impress on several of my students that Deadliest Warrior though a fun to watch program is not accurate at all.
would be awesome if you could do videos that showed techniques like that viking slash around the shield that circles around back. i think the weapons are cool but not familiar with the techniques
@Gubbinz here are some videos on youtube showing viking shield and sword fight maby they help you understand it: /watch?v=XWSTx0tZHCU&feature=related /watch?v=VqdpKHNQqqs&feature=related and if you mean that strike that hits your from back thats a wrap shot heres a video showing how to do it /watch?v=8GxLlTfW0gk&playnext_from=TL&videos=Snsec8USrAs hope it heps a bit just add that link behind the side..... ;)
@Gubbinz To be honest the wrap is more than Just a Viking strike, it was used by any group who had experiance with shields or fought them. Not to mention it's also very effective at getting around a two handed weapon whether it be a two handed sword or a polearm. But unlike Thrand i have only a few years of SCA and am Still learning; but i can say for a fact that it is tough, and there are injuries, for example the firt battle at Gulf Wars i have seen the medical point packed with injuries.
I'm not going to argue that the longsword is a great weapon; I prefer it over the katana but that's simply because I'm more engraved in Western arts. But that katana you're using doesn't look 100% authentic nor well made. There's other tests done on the katana, maybe even over a hundred. Your swing is also extremely faulty (and yes, that will make a difference) but I still know, despite my preferences, that a katana is one of the sharpest swords in the world (though not sharpest).
@ColonelMarksman my swing is not faulty.Where are you getting you expertise from?your training? movies maybe?I have studied several styles of kenjutsu. No one less than a Japanese master with money would have a real katana made by a master from Japan.Any one on youtube would have a replica not an actual Japanese work of art. But as for the one one I am using it has proven It self well through many test.
@ColonelMarksman Also Deadliest Warrior did not have one real katana with makers mark on their program. The one I am using in the video is exact same weight and blade length as they said the Samurai would have used in the supposed simulation. The point being it would not have an advantage over the Sword and shield. A real samurai would have used the yumi(bow) and yari(spear) if he got to only his katana he would be dead or a very lucky man.
@ThegnThrand Indeed, what's the difference really. You get one made by a computer with a precise cut, a perfectly blended and homogenized steel etc. The only thing you're missing is the art of the makers, I mean by comparison the replica might perform better based on being made by better steel and specs. Of course you lose the cultural value, but really tgat's for collectors, not people who are actually using their swords, right? also I ramble.
TheManperson is still complaining about spelling and grammatik error and bitching about everything between here and there? Seriuosly Thrand he must be max geiger. No other person you could have pist of enough for this kind of whining xD.
@Grottman96 He's lying about his history to make himself seem like some sort of Ultra-Specialist about everything, while making worse mistakes on his BS response videos than they did in the original show. He's a whiny prick who thinks the Vikings should have won because they're the best ever, and he just can't accept that a show DARED not bend over and suck off the Norseman.
It's total BS. I'll stop when he agrees to stop spamming the website with his bullshit videos and whining about the show
@TheManperson Naah I think thrands a good fellow and he seem to know what he is talking about from first hand experience. Hmm viking the best ever? Sound very good. I believe that the only one among the ancient warriors on the show that possibly could stop him is the knight. Otherwise vikings would rule. Ohh about he spamming the site, I dont consider it as spamming and if it is its needed. DW needs to be knocked down a hole or two.
@Grottman96 Thanks for your support and yes the knight would be a more advanced Viking basically better arms and armor. When William took over England he brought a lot of the Knightly values and ideals with him as well. There is evidence he was using spears much like the knights did the lance that early.
@TheManperson There are small children that come here so please stop the profanity or be banned.I should really let you know That those words you use mean you would like to settle this like men if so we can make arrangements if you sigh the appropriate paper work I will be more than happy to oblige you.
@ThegnThrand 1: Profanity filter. 2: I doubt small children watch your lame videos to decry deadliest warrior. 3: Fighting with foam and wood sticks is hardly 'settling it like men'.
You're making more errors than the show is, you're blatantly lying when poked (you DID say you were programmer), and you're making the classic move of someone with no argument: 'yeah, well shut up and come fight me!'
Lied about your experience, used flawed tests, can't grasp simple English. That about sums it up.
@TheManperson You were first to attack personally and, in polite society, that isn't done.Thrand has every right to call you out to prove your mettle. Besides, how can you claim to know anything about fighting if you can't. What's your definition of settling this dispute like men? You haven't done anything but argue without facts. Why don't we have a recorded debate and post the audio recording for everyone to hear. I'm sure a recorded phone call would do nicely or perhaps you can make a video.
Who said I can't fight? Five years of martial arts (and yes, I'm 21. same age as Geiger. lololol that must mean I can't possibly have done it! :O) and more actual FIGHTS (not this SCA stickfighting BS) than I can count. I can fight, I just don't see how prancing about with sticks settles anything 'like a man'. My brother and I used to beat eachother with fake swords when we were little boys, it's hardly the pursuit of a Man just because you got better fakes.
@TheManperson SCA is a sport martial art and has been featured in Black Belt Magazine. Shows what you know. You don't want to fight or debate because you are afraid of losing which shows you are a spineless, weak willed, woman. I now know, that any argument with you is just the same as arguing with a weakling.
Big man. When you're proven wrong (I listed three fatalities in MMA, you have listed zero in SCA) you call your opponent a woman and a weakling. I didn't know you had such a poor opinion of the female race. I, on the other hand, will not call you a woman. I do not want to insult women. I will call you a Liar for claiming that a sport with three confirmed deaths and no protective gear is as brutal as a sport with zero deaths and mandatory armor.
@TheManperson I said you can't fight, in face I'm willing to wager on it. By the way SCA fighting is as brutal as MMA. I can say that because there are only two recognized sport martial arts where people get injured, and those are the SCA and MMA.
Ha. Yeah right. A bunch of guys in full suits hitting each other with sticks is nowhere near as brutal as two men wearing nothing but trunks punching, kneeing, and elbowing each other in the face. That you can even claim it's as brutal as MMA makes me laugh. The worst injuries you can get in the SCA are bruises and maybe a fracture, people have been KILLED in MMA.
How many SCA-fatalities are there again? Oh right. Zero. Just as brutal my foot.
@TheManperson we are only required to wear minimal armor on the field. a fighter may take the option to wear heavier gear, but that won't stop the blows from causing injury. We had a fighter nearly die before gorget rule went into effect because the other fighters rattan sword split her neck open. We get broken bones in the SCA. Clavicles get broken, arms get broken, and so on and so forth. We hit with great force which is why armor (at least some) is required.
@LordEldgrimr Then you cannot claim it is as brutal as the MMA, as no one has ever died and you are forced to wear gear to lessen the impact of the blows. There is no such requirement in MMA, which makes the sport much more brutal than the SCA.
Of course it doesn't compare. There have been at least three confirmed MMA Fatalities, and countless crippling injuries. SCA cannot make the same claim. You wear protective gear and swing around Rattan, they punch each other in the face with no protection and knee each other at full force. They grab limbs and pull as hard as they can to cause pain, you guys land one 'solid blow' and pretend like you can't use that arm.
They're way more brutal than you guys are. People die in their sport.
@TheManperson Are you in MMA? I don't think so. I don't think you have the facts to back up what you're claiming. Send me the news reports. Show me. You're all talk. I can prove what I'm saying easily. You still dodge other comments I've made. I think you are afraid to try SCA. I think you are afraid to get spanked. Find your local SCA chapter and ask for some loaner armor and fight someone. Then tell me it's not possible to get seriously injured or possibly die.
@TheManperson Send me the news reports or some reputable equivalent. I can tell you that we have had one near death in our chapter alone, which statistically means that there are others. I can find that data and send it to you with in the next few days. The Kingdom will have those records.
@TheManperson A broken neck is always a possibility in the SCA. When a helmet is strapped to your chin you can get hit hard enough to wrench your neck causing death.
Three verified deaths. List me people who have died in SCA and I'll believe your claims. Until then, hitting each other with sticks through armor is more brutal than full contact with no protection.
You said that the SCA was as brutal as MMA. You are a liar, and I have proven you to be a liar by citing three confirmed fatalities in the MMA. Unless you can produce the same number, your SCA is not as brutal.
@TheManperson I still urge you to make a video of yourself fighting so that we can verify that you are all talk. As it is I think you're a liar and a charlatan. I also strongly suggest that, before you judge something you know nothing about, you try it. I am, of course, referring to the SCA. Try it and be sure to get a video of you getting your butt handed to you by a guy with a stick. Then tell me it's childish.
That's the difference between you and me. You think I am a liar because I do not have a camera or the urge to film myself flailing about like an idiot with a fake sword, I know you are a liar because you said SCA is as brutal as MMA and then said you never made such a claim.
Enjoy your toys and games, I grew out of the 'hitting people with a stick' phase when I realized how childish it was, and that martial arts was way more effective than a fake sword. Toy swords are childish.
@TheManperson All this time I've been contemplating why it is you are so intent on defending a fantasy program. Eureka! You really don't know how to do anything that Thrand can do or even what a "cripple" can do, so to make yourself feel better about your own inferiority you stoop to insulting people. You wish that you could do the things you see in martial arts movies, on DW, and on MMA fights, but you are really just a scared little boy who is afraid to get hit. I'm really sorry for you.
@TheManperson do you sleep easy knowing that you are not capable? does it help you to cope with life being a child living a fictional world where you believe that martial arts is efficient? street fighting is martial arts. fighting with a rattan sword and 3/4 in thick wooden shield is a martial art. If there is one thing I've learned is that anytime someone is unwilling to accept a challenge is when they know they are going to get embarrassed because they cannot do what they claim.
In the same insult you claim I'm living in a fictional world because I believe martial arts are 'efficient' (I think you meant effective, stick-fighter) and then claimed that SCA is also a Martial Art. So it must be fiction to think that SCA is "efficient".
Nice contradiction, there. You just insulted your own sport, stick-fighter.
@TheManperson it's not effective the Martial art is not efficient or effective, it the person and their expression of their martial experience that makes it both efficient and effective. Further proving that you know nothing about debate and helped to prove my point.
"does it help you to cope with life being a child living a fictional world where you believe that martial arts is efficient?"
Your words. You said it's fiction for Martial Arts to be effective, then claimed SCA is a Martial Art. (it's actually a sport, but hey. you made the claim)
@TheManperson I never contradicted, to claim that any martial art is effective is to overestimate it's quality. It is the person's own expression of fighting that is artistic. You do not read carefully do you?
That's not what you said the first time, and you know it. Direct quote.
"do you sleep easy knowing that you are not capable? does it help you to cope with life being a child living A FICTIONAL WORLD where you BELIEVE THAT MARTIAL ARTS IS EFFICIENT?"
" fighting with a rattan sword and 3/4 in thick wooden shield is a martial art."
You just said martial arts aren't 'efficient', and that stick-fighting is a martial art. By your logic, it is not efficient either.
@TheManperson no martial art is efficient or effective only the person, we know that there are tools one can use to make a person better and having a sword and board does enhance that, but in the end the man is the art.
@TheManperson what we do is a martial art in the sense that body mechanics are essentially the same, but to say that martial arts makes someone superior (which has been our argument all along, the japanese aren't the only ones who knew those mechanics) is a farce. Martial arts doesn't make anyone superior because everyone has it to some degree even a viking, even the street brawler, and even a hack all have some level of martial skill and no of it is effective only the person is effective.
@TheManperson I have seen plenty of street fighters take down guys with black belts like their nothing and I have seen "stick fighters" do the same. I've seen a black belt in Tae Kwon Do take down a cop and cops are trained to take down suspects. It's unpredictable and all we have ever said is that the sword and shield martial art is the same only with an extra enhancement that increases the likelihood of winning. We were demonstrating that the shield and the viking were misrepresented.
@TheManperson It always comes down to this with people like you, you say you can do it, but you don't have a camera or you don't want to stoop to our level by acting a fool on a camera if you did have one. Those are all excuses to prevent your own fall from your high horse as you so eloquently put it. You find it easier to be a faceless person that can make any claim without having to prove it, a perfect scenario for you because no one can prove you wrong.
Faceless? Hell, if you can wait till Wednesday I'll go down to the photomat and scan a picture of myself and send it over to you. There's no effing way I'm going to shill out the money for a video camera just to prove you wrong, stick-fighter, but I'll gladly 'show my face.' I'll even make a voice recording and send you my name. It's not a matter of bravery (BTW, cowards are the ones who accuse other people of not being brave), it's a matter of not wanting to waste money on you, stick-fighter.
@TheManperson A picture and a voice doesn't prove that you are capable. What is being argued here is your inability to perform. You can't do it. You won't do it. You are like the others who we have called out and it's always the same excuse.
Of course it is. Just keep pretending that the best way I can spend my hard-earned money is to buy a video camera just to prove some weirdo on the internet wrong.
I don't need to 'prove myself' to you, stick-fighter. Don't think I'm capable? I don't give a damn. I know I'm capable. But don't claim this is about "bravery", because that's just a lame argument. I'll pay the money to scan a photo, but I'm not shilling out a hundred bucks for a video camera just to prove you wrong, stick-fighter.
@TheManperson I also suggested borrow thus proving again your selective reading skill. You must be so friendless that you can't find anybody to borrow a cam from. You have one excuse after another. All you do is get defensive, but you won't do anything to prove yourself. You're all text. You can say what you like poser, but you don't know anything and everyone here is well aware of that.
Called me a Woman, called me a Weakling, challenged me to a fight (repeatedly), said I'm afraid of you and the other stick-fighters, and called me a Coward. Yeah, you're the one getting defensive, stick-fighter.
I've only got -one- excuse. I don't want to waste the time and money to prove a petulant stick-fighter wrong. That's it.
@TheManperson you were defensive and quite offensive with your diarrhea of the mouth. You are being a childish, sniveling, woman. Only a child starts by tossing out vulgarity, only a weasel avoids confronting the facts, only a woman is passive about fighting when the gauntlet has been dropped. You slapped us in the face and expect us not to call you out. If you had said any of that trash to either Thrand or me it would have been over in two hits one of us hitting you and you hitting the floor
Way to be sexist, stick-fighter. I didn't know you thought so poorly of women, must be a holdover of the Viking mentality. I take back what I said about you being defensive, now you're just being Offensive.
@LordEldgrimr Wow, you have a short attention span. You claimed SCA is just as brutal as MMA, I listed three people who died. Then you said you NEVER claimed that they were as brutal. Which is a lie.
Fake katana. Do it with a real katana
BloodOfAltair 1 week ago
The thing that most people fail to realize is that Katanas were made to cut through flesh, silk, and possibly bamboo armor, tightly bound together by metal rings and rivets. It could not cut through ringmail, or chainmail. It was proven that none of the weapons that the Samurai brought to the fight in DW could pierce Viking armor. I am in no way saying the longsword is a superior weapon. I'm just saying that there is a very slim chance a samurai could beat a raged out Viking.
SonOfTheMorrigan 1 month ago
@SonOfTheMorrigan this is both correct and incorrect, being a dark ages society the vikings used plain iron to manufacture their weapons and armour. the samurai on the other hand were around for a lot longer and their typical weapon (the katan/tachii)
was made of steel, which has generally more desirable qualities in a weapon. furthermore samurai armour was not just "silk and possibly bamboo armour" but was actually iron or steel plates sewn or rivited to a mounting(which could be bamboo/wood)
imagifyer 1 month ago
@imagifyer The edge og the vikingswrod was allways made of steel, the core could be iron.
The vikingage was the latest part og the ironage and the steel and iron quality was very developed in Europe at this time.
The best swords came from France wich was populated by vikings and other groups at this time.

jasonlmcclean 3 months ago
I think it make perfect sense that hacking would be more effective against bone (or any other rigid material; armor) than slicing, anybody can try it at home with a kitchen knife. Hence the superiority of the longsword to the katana against rigid materials....
Now I guess you can also pure on hack with the katana like a baseball bat, but that wouldn't be proper kendo technique.

HaNsWiDjAjA 4 months ago in playlist More videos from ThegnThrand
The strength of the japanese sword comes from the technique the warrior is using not from brute force. It doesn't seem to me that you have a lot of knowledge of the kenjutsu techniques and that would explain the poor results of the Katana

@33orion77 If that is the case then the other sword is much better because it was successful without the need of training.
MrBuster128 2 months ago
@MrBuster128 I woud make the comparison with the karateka breaking planks bare hands, you need training but you achieve more power. Samurai were trained very young so it was convenient for them. and have a look of some video with Isao Machii
33orion77 2 months ago
@MrBuster128 not true, any sword requires correct technique in order to maxamise its lethality, the longsword/broadsword has the advantage in mass and bludgeoning force as well as its combined ablility to slash, hack or stab. but the katana is lighter and allows for a faster swing, plus it has the advantages of a curved blade(which has better cutting properties generaly speaking)

Frenchsniper77 1 year ago
@Frenchsniper77 Well that's different. In the show the pigs were positioned perfectly on top of each other and the Samurai struck directly downwards, getting a lot of help from gravity. This meatslab was suspended from a rope and cut diagonally and met resistance from the bones.
TheScandinavianOne 1 year ago
@TheScandinavianOne verry tru but the also teste it on bamboo mats that had the resistance of flesh, and bone, and they would testit on corpses. but u have a point on the ravity thing. i my karate dojo they would practice that 2

@Frenchsniper77 Roughly the same density of flesh, yes. But let's not forget that the tatami mats are completely free of anything that emulates bone or tendons.
Which kind of Karate do you practice, btw?

what sort of katana are you using actually? a replica? beat it on concrete all day long? sorry, i like both warriors but this looks stupid :P

TylerNessss 1 year ago
@TylerNessss What would beating a "real" katana on the concrete all day prove? The fact that the replica is made of homogenized steel and has less impurities? That the chisel edge doesn't allow for good flexibility except in the spine? I'm not that amazed, I've watched a lot of videos, frankly I just don't see any difference between either sword. To me the only difference betwixt the two is where the sweet spot is. Katana first six inches, arming/long.whatever sword, PoP.

Also, Slitherine Strategies is a video game company based in the UK that also makes tabletop games. I wouldn't be surprised if this 'computer program' is really just them punching numbers into a formula based on the tabletop games they make...
palliddisdain 1 year ago
Tabletop games? No. The Simulation is, according to interviews given to Max Geiger and the SS forums, 50% backbone of a Real Time Strategy game and 50% custom code written by Max. It takes in the numbers taken from the real world testing and applies them to the (still quite accurate even to this day, and supposedly constantly updated) simulation programs to see who would win in a fight.
But it's not a tabletop game. Or an RPG. Or a series of dice rolls.
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
Unless we can get a Time Machine to pluck "Random Samurai 1" and "Random Viking 1" from Time and Space and make them fight to the death, or start using living human beings in a gladiatorial death sport, this is truly the closest we will ever be able to get to determining who would win.
Taking real data and numbers from the weapons, feeding them into a simulator (which is tested against known battles/death counts to ensure accuracy, as it already is), and then simulating the battle repeatedly.
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
@KnightValhalla yea but he can change the results at will or modify it so who he wants to win would win and half the time their info is wrong not only that i dont care who u are a long sword if made properly amnd historicaly will ALWAYS cut through harder material than a katana and that is because a katana was meant to cut flesh and not be used with just strength i dont like thrads form or the way he weilds it but he is right in this vid the longsword will cut into bone beter than the katana

A katana and a longsword are tested against Ice, Leather Armor, and Plate Armor. Guess which one fares better?
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
@KnightValhalla I address this in my new Video series but guess you dint really watch them its locked n loaded right the long sword is later century and not the 9th century version. You are slow and behind the times I already disproved that in my other videos.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
No...you haven't. I've seen all your videos. You've done no disproving of it. You've banged some weapons around on potlids, you've played around in your backyard, and you cheated on the orynx test, but you've proved nothing.
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
@KnightValhalla I know we dint do the ice thing but the katana is a poor design it had a very thick blade, on ice it acts like a splinting wedge but on armor makes it very difficult to slice through. It also acts as drag when going through a body. The long sword was thin meaning it goes though better but tends to slow down when it hits soft ice not wedging it enough to split it open the ice catches it .This is why in my video the long sword cut the bone clean and not split it like the katana:P
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
Actually it's because you cheated. You struck it first with the Katana, and then struck the SAME SPOT with the Longsword. Of course the Longsword would do more damage when you're striking a wound that's already been started.
Stop lying to yourself and to me, Thrand.
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
@KnightValhalla hey stop ive seen thrads videos hundreds of times he dosent ''cheat'' and yes ice isnt hard i can swing a machety at ice and it shaters i can swing it at glass and the blade is dulled ive stuck toothpicks in ice with my hands the only reason the katan acut beter in ice is because of the curved blade and the armor thing on locked n loaded was bs so U need to stop lieing to urself the katana if horriblke against armor but well against raw flesh
hellwolf882 1 year ago
You've watched his videos hundreds of times? Well, that explains a few things. What exactly is so "BS" about it, hnmh? Can you give specifics?
KnightValhalla 1 year ago
@ThegnThrand i guss knightValhalla dosent relise the katna was never used against armor the samurai used the naginata or etc but keep makeing vids please lol i enjoy them and u give an excelent honest view of another opinion but like i said the katana was ment purly to cut flesh the long sword is good at both flesh and armor and bone (ps im not taliking out my ass ive used a long sword and i katana i perfer my katana but still against armor long sword is beter but katana is beter at flesh
hellwolf882 1 year ago
@KnightValhalla Locked n Loaded, right? They used a hand-and-a-half thrusting sword, not a 9th century Viking longsword (much thicker than a thrusting sword). That whole show was just a big commercial for overhyped Japanese weapons. Used butted mail to represent European armor and everything.
EhSteve8690 1 year ago

KnightValhalla 1 year ago
Spear where the severe ass-whoopin comes in. Any random samurai using Hozoin spear beats any elite of the elite spear soldier throughout history. Of course thats an exaggeration, but one whos truly skilled in it is the closest thing to unbeatable there is in the old warrior kingdom. If I had to the means to demonstrate I would, as I'm sure I'll catch hell for that comment. Granted, I'm bias since I'm trained in Hozoin spear fighting, but that doesn't change anything.
OidrunkIrirshninja 1 year ago
Since the longsword is specifically designed for one hand, it's two fisted use with anything is leagues beyond Japanese two fisted styles. Sry Musashi/Yagyu/Myojinsoga lovers, but its the truth. Imo, longsword/hand axe combo is the closest thing to negating skill advantage with weapon type, superior to even various ninjutsu tactics short of chain weapons. Sword vs sword, even you have to admit a viking is outclassed without his sheild. No advantage to either side on special weapons(3).
OidrunkIrirshninja 1 year ago
A samurai would refuse to duel an opponent who brought a shield, as dueling was a spiritual thing and involved only a warrior and his weapon, no armor. Samurai saw sheilds as cowardly and would not honor one who carried it with a duel. A more fair trial would be to break down dueling styles. 1)Kat vs longsword, 2)Tachi/kat vs longsword and hand axe, 3)great axe vs naganata, and 4) spear vs spear. I hate this 500 limit... The only advantage to vikings is the sword axe combo.
OidrunkIrirshninja 1 year ago
I don't mean to insult you, but you technique with the katana is terrible. I f I wanted to disprove a weapon, I would use the one I liked better than the one I'm trying to discredit as well. Which is what I think is going on here, I doubt you, as weapons and historical enthusiest, even if you've never held a kat before, are so poorly skilled with the weapon. Also, why are you comparing swords? Only wealthy viks had swords (so I hear) and sam only used them in predetermined duels.

@we465 No, retard. The viking was poorly represented. One of the viking "experts" had no combat training. And what proof do you have that samurai are clearly superior? Why couldn't it beat the Spartan if it's so great?
EhSteve8690 1 year ago
@EhSteve8690 the only reason it could not beat the Spartan was becuz the samurais kanabo could not break the spartan's bronze shield. You can't disagree with that.

@we465 Then how do you explain why the shield got the most kills against the ninja, but against the samurai, the spear got the most kills though it couldn't penetrate late-period samurai armor. Sounds like Max Geiger is using an RPG game for battles.

EhSteve8690 1 year ago
@EhSteve8690 we do a lot of different test and demos in my other videos just go check them out.The great axe would have reach advantage for sure. The katana would be faster but do less damage.I would say if standard length katana Dane axe being light not a heavy weapon would have the advantage. The nodachi(Japanese great sword) or Naginata they did not use on DW would be fairly even though.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson That because we wear helmets like our ancestors did.The Idea of no knock outs is absurd I have been knocked out in a war with pole arms before. The chin strap transfers the impact quite well straight to the jaw.The part I am agreeing with no deaths. The broken bones, sever bruising and knocks we do have.If you had no helmet the swords we use would kill out right to the head.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson Well then lets suit up in armor and fight we will see who has better training. You would not speak them I am sure you would have to admit you have no combat knowledge nor training so you wouldn't dare do that would you? So my dear sir you are the one judging some one with no training nor skill are concept of true combat. If you want my history I will give it on the list field before you fall :P
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson The only reason why it is safer than MMA is the helmet if it was not the helmet we would have many fatalities. The blows we take to the body are more extreme than MMA I can assure this.Getting hit with a 3lbs to 5lbs 3' long piece of rattan 1"1/4 or 1"1/2 is more damaging than most blows in the MMA especially if you wear minimals as I do.The shield is another reason for less injuries as well it makes it way harder to get a good blow to vitals Although not every one uses them.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson Lmao Manperson you really have studied it enough to know if I did or not ? Where did you get your training? I question this because your statements are so foolish about my stance and swing.First of all they are Kame or kamae, postures not stance.Second the term sword swing is not used in kenjutsu. There are names for each cut and not referred to as swings or swinging the blade. You know nothing of any fighting style do you except from movies and looking at pictures lol

@Gubbinz To be honest the wrap is more than Just a Viking strike, it was used by any group who had experiance with shields or fought them. Not to mention it's also very effective at getting around a two handed weapon whether it be a two handed sword or a polearm. But unlike Thrand i have only a few years of SCA and am Still learning; but i can say for a fact that it is tough, and there are injuries, for example the firt battle at Gulf Wars i have seen the medical point packed with injuries.
holyman224 1 year ago 7
@holyman224 very true I have as well at gulf war .
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
I'm not going to argue that the longsword is a great weapon; I prefer it over the katana but that's simply because I'm more engraved in Western arts. But that katana you're using doesn't look 100% authentic nor well made. There's other tests done on the katana, maybe even over a hundred. Your swing is also extremely faulty (and yes, that will make a difference) but I still know, despite my preferences, that a katana is one of the sharpest swords in the world (though not sharpest).
ColonelMarksman 1 year ago
@ColonelMarksman my swing is not faulty.Where are you getting you expertise from?your training? movies maybe?I have studied several styles of kenjutsu. No one less than a Japanese master with money would have a real katana made by a master from Japan.Any one on youtube would have a replica not an actual Japanese work of art. But as for the one one I am using it has proven It self well through many test.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@ColonelMarksman Also Deadliest Warrior did not have one real katana with makers mark on their program. The one I am using in the video is exact same weight and blade length as they said the Samurai would have used in the supposed simulation. The point being it would not have an advantage over the Sword and shield. A real samurai would have used the yumi(bow) and yari(spear) if he got to only his katana he would be dead or a very lucky man.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@ThegnThrand Indeed, what's the difference really. You get one made by a computer with a precise cut, a perfectly blended and homogenized steel etc. The only thing you're missing is the art of the makers, I mean by comparison the replica might perform better based on being made by better steel and specs. Of course you lose the cultural value, but really tgat's for collectors, not people who are actually using their swords, right? also I ramble.

You're making more errors than the show is, you're blatantly lying when poked (you DID say you were programmer), and you're making the classic move of someone with no argument: 'yeah, well shut up and come fight me!'
Lied about your experience, used flawed tests, can't grasp simple English. That about sums it up.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson You were first to attack personally and, in polite society, that isn't done.Thrand has every right to call you out to prove your mettle. Besides, how can you claim to know anything about fighting if you can't. What's your definition of settling this dispute like men? You haven't done anything but argue without facts. Why don't we have a recorded debate and post the audio recording for everyone to hear. I'm sure a recorded phone call would do nicely or perhaps you can make a video.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Who said I can't fight? Five years of martial arts (and yes, I'm 21. same age as Geiger. lololol that must mean I can't possibly have done it! :O) and more actual FIGHTS (not this SCA stickfighting BS) than I can count. I can fight, I just don't see how prancing about with sticks settles anything 'like a man'. My brother and I used to beat eachother with fake swords when we were little boys, it's hardly the pursuit of a Man just because you got better fakes.
Re debate:
Lol, he wishes.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson SCA is a sport martial art and has been featured in Black Belt Magazine. Shows what you know. You don't want to fight or debate because you are afraid of losing which shows you are a spineless, weak willed, woman. I now know, that any argument with you is just the same as arguing with a weakling.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I said you can't fight, in face I'm willing to wager on it. By the way SCA fighting is as brutal as MMA. I can say that because there are only two recognized sport martial arts where people get injured, and those are the SCA and MMA.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Ha.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson we are only required to wear minimal armor on the field. a fighter may take the option to wear heavier gear, but that won't stop the blows from causing injury. We had a fighter nearly die before gorget rule went into effect because the other fighters rattan sword split her neck open. We get broken bones in the SCA. Clavicles get broken, arms get broken, and so on and so forth. We hit with great force which is why armor (at least some) is required.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@LordEldgrimr Then you cannot claim it is as brutal as the MMA, as no one has ever died and you are forced to wear gear to lessen the impact of the blows. There is no such requirement in MMA, which makes the sport much more brutal than the SCA.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I suggest you go out and try it and tell me that the SCA doesn't compare. You can't say it doesn't until you try it.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Of course it doesn't compare. There have been at least three confirmed MMA Fatalities, and countless crippling injuries. SCA cannot make the same claim. You wear protective gear and swing around Rattan, they punch each other in the face with no protection and knee each other at full force. They grab limbs and pull as hard as they can to cause pain, you guys land one 'solid blow' and pretend like you can't use that arm.
They're way more brutal than you guys are. People die in their sport.
TheManperson 1 year ago
The worst injury you can get in SCA leaves you in a Cast. The worst injury you can get in MMA leaves you in a Casket.
Just tell me those are as brutal, and I will call you a liar.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson Are you in MMA? I don't think so. I don't think you have the facts to back up what you're claiming. Send me the news reports. Show me. You're all talk. I can prove what I'm saying easily. You still dodge other comments I've made. I think you are afraid to try SCA. I think you are afraid to get spanked. Find your local SCA chapter and ask for some loaner armor and fight someone. Then tell me it's not possible to get seriously injured or possibly die.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
List one person. One. One single person who has died in SCA. I can list three who have died in MMA fights.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson Send me the news reports or some reputable equivalent. I can tell you that we have had one near death in our chapter alone, which statistically means that there are others. I can find that data and send it to you with in the next few days. The Kingdom will have those records.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson A broken neck is always a possibility in the SCA. When a helmet is strapped to your chin you can get hit hard enough to wrench your neck causing death.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Douglas Dedge, 1998.
Lee, 2005
Sam Vasquez, 2007.
Three verified deaths. List me people who have died in SCA and I'll believe your claims. Until then, hitting each other with sticks through armor is more brutal than full contact with no protection.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson what about boxers who wear gloves to prevent injury and die as a result?
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
More brutal than the SCA
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I never said more brutal than full contact with no protection. You are putting words in my mouth.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
You said that the SCA was as brutal as MMA. You are a liar, and I have proven you to be a liar by citing three confirmed fatalities in the MMA. Unless you can produce the same number, your SCA is not as brutal.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I also never said anyone died in the SCA I said near death. Again you are putting words in my mouth.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson You have a bad habit of selective reading.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson I still urge you to make a video of yourself fighting so that we can verify that you are all talk. As it is I think you're a liar and a charlatan. I also strongly suggest that, before you judge something you know nothing about, you try it. I am, of course, referring to the SCA. Try it and be sure to get a video of you getting your butt handed to you by a guy with a stick. Then tell me it's childish.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
That's the difference between you and me. You think I am a liar because I do not have a camera or the urge to film myself flailing about like an idiot with a fake sword, I know you are a liar because you said SCA is as brutal as MMA and then said you never made such a claim.
Enjoy your toys and games, I grew out of the 'hitting people with a stick' phase when I realized how childish it was, and that martial arts was way more effective than a fake sword. Toy swords are childish.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson All this time I've been contemplating why it is you are so intent on defending a fantasy program. Eureka! You really don't know how to do anything that Thrand can do or even what a "cripple" can do, so to make yourself feel better about your own inferiority you stoop to insulting people. You wish that you could do the things you see in martial arts movies, on DW, and on MMA fights, but you are really just a scared little boy who is afraid to get hit. I'm really sorry for you.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Just keep thinking that, stick-fighter. It might help you sleep better.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson do you sleep easy knowing that you are not capable? does it help you to cope with life being a child living a fictional world where you believe that martial arts is efficient? street fighting is martial arts. fighting with a rattan sword and 3/4 in thick wooden shield is a martial art. If there is one thing I've learned is that anytime someone is unwilling to accept a challenge is when they know they are going to get embarrassed because they cannot do what they claim.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
In the same insult you claim I'm living in a fictional world because I believe martial arts are 'efficient' (I think you meant effective, stick-fighter) and then claimed that SCA is also a Martial Art. So it must be fiction to think that SCA is "efficient".
Nice contradiction, there. You just insulted your own sport, stick-fighter.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson it's not effective the Martial art is not efficient or effective, it the person and their expression of their martial experience that makes it both efficient and effective. Further proving that you know nothing about debate and helped to prove my point.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
"does it help you to cope with life being a child living a fictional world where you believe that martial arts is efficient?"
Your words. You said it's fiction for Martial Arts to be effective, then claimed SCA is a Martial Art. (it's actually a sport, but hey. you made the claim)
Good job insulting your own side, Stick-fighter.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson Keep living the lie there poser. I'm sure it helps your delusions of grandeur.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
If it's a lie, it's your lie. You're the one who made the contradiction, stick-fighter :D
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I never contradicted, to claim that any martial art is effective is to overestimate it's quality. It is the person's own expression of fighting that is artistic. You do not read carefully do you?
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
That's not what you said the first time, and you know it. Direct quote.
"do you sleep easy knowing that you are not capable? does it help you to cope with life being a child living A FICTIONAL WORLD where you BELIEVE THAT MARTIAL ARTS IS EFFICIENT?"
" fighting with a rattan sword and 3/4 in thick wooden shield is a martial art."
You just said martial arts aren't 'efficient', and that stick-fighting is a martial art. By your logic, it is not efficient either.
Good one, stick-fighter.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson no martial art is efficient or effective only the person, we know that there are tools one can use to make a person better and having a sword and board does enhance that, but in the end the man is the art.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson what we do is a martial art in the sense that body mechanics are essentially the same, but to say that martial arts makes someone superior (which has been our argument all along, the japanese aren't the only ones who knew those mechanics) is a farce. Martial arts doesn't make anyone superior because everyone has it to some degree even a viking, even the street brawler, and even a hack all have some level of martial skill and no of it is effective only the person is effective.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson I have seen plenty of street fighters take down guys with black belts like their nothing and I have seen "stick fighters" do the same. I've seen a black belt in Tae Kwon Do take down a cop and cops are trained to take down suspects. It's unpredictable and all we have ever said is that the sword and shield martial art is the same only with an extra enhancement that increases the likelihood of winning. We were demonstrating that the shield and the viking were misrepresented.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@TheManperson It always comes down to this with people like you, you say you can do it, but you don't have a camera or you don't want to stoop to our level by acting a fool on a camera if you did have one. Those are all excuses to prevent your own fall from your high horse as you so eloquently put it. You find it easier to be a faceless person that can make any claim without having to prove it, a perfect scenario for you because no one can prove you wrong.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago

LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Of course it is. Just keep pretending that the best way I can spend my hard-earned money is to buy a video camera just to prove some weirdo on the internet wrong.
I don't need to 'prove myself' to you, stick-fighter. Don't think I'm capable? I don't give a damn. I know I'm capable. But don't claim this is about "bravery", because that's just a lame argument. I'll pay the money to scan a photo, but I'm not shilling out a hundred bucks for a video camera just to prove you wrong, stick-fighter.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson I also suggested borrow thus proving again your selective reading skill. You must be so friendless that you can't find anybody to borrow a cam from. You have one excuse after another. All you do is get defensive, but you won't do anything to prove yourself. You're all text. You can say what you like poser, but you don't know anything and everyone here is well aware of that.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
So far you've:
Called me a Woman, called me a Weakling, challenged me to a fight (repeatedly), said I'm afraid of you and the other stick-fighters, and called me a Coward. Yeah, you're the one getting defensive, stick-fighter.
I've only got -one- excuse. I don't want to waste the time and money to prove a petulant stick-fighter wrong. That's it.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson you were defensive and quite offensive with your diarrhea of the mouth. You are being a childish, sniveling, woman. Only a child starts by tossing out vulgarity, only a weasel avoids confronting the facts, only a woman is passive about fighting when the gauntlet has been dropped. You slapped us in the face and expect us not to call you out. If you had said any of that trash to either Thrand or me it would have been over in two hits one of us hitting you and you hitting the floor
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
Way to be sexist, stick-fighter. I didn't know you thought so poorly of women, must be a holdover of the Viking mentality. I take back what I said about you being defensive, now you're just being Offensive.
TheManperson 1 year ago
and I can't believe you'd insult women on MOTHER'S DAY.
Have you no shame?
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson women are by nature passive and you took a passive position when confronted about the vulgar name calling.
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
and you did the same when confronted with your lying, but I didn't make a sexist remark about you. That's the difference between us, it seems.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson what lie?
LordEldgrimr 1 year ago
@LordEldgrimr Wow, you have a short attention span. You claimed SCA is just as brutal as MMA, I listed three people who died. Then you said you NEVER claimed that they were as brutal. Which is a lie.
Except I didn't call you a woman, stick-fighter.
TheManperson 1 year ago
@TheManperson SCA Texas is the hardest hitting kingdom we have some broken bones and sever bruising at times but no documented deaths no.
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson The reason why is because of our helmet standards and armor requirements :P
ThegnThrand 1 year ago
@TheManperson Well it's been fun. You're a poser and that has been clearly established. I have
