this is absolutely brilliant he's like the bob ross of the chalk world i will be trying some of these for sure, you should create a facebook page where people can upload their drawings using his style would be great to see :)
Usually, my art looks unnatural because i can't put my pictures from my mind onto paper, and i had an art project that i needed to draw an animal that represents myself with a scenery background. managed to get the animal with tracing paper, but i used this lesson (which so easily explained)and i won the competition plus i got an A+ for it. Thx, and i will always be inspired by Jon Gnagy. Everyone can draw!
I used to watch him when I was a kid in the early 60s in Detroit. I got one of his kits for Christmas one year. My grandmother was kind enough to display some of the results in her home.
I spent the last two days reviewing all the clips you posted. Thank you so much. This is one of the best resources for all kinds of artists, at all levels. I've been recommending his courses for years. Didn't know the original broadcasts could be found here.
I am coming cross this how to draw to better he seem easy to explain then all these other people I been trying to learn off. I LOVE TO DRAW SOME THINGS THAT IS NOT COMPLICATED TO USE so this might give me the key to understand a simple drawing. glad I came a cross this one .
this stuff is kinda cool and anyways i was looking for black & white drawing guide for how to draw a lake.... oh btw what did he use to draw that pic if you know tell me!
O_O holyyyyyyyy ....wow that was just....wow he seems like one of those guys who spends days out in nature just observing and drawinnnggg....i love how he pronounces what huh-what xD
I am 56 years old- we watched JG many years ago in Los Angeles TV -
JG sifted into my very young brain with true inspiration - My father put a big 6 foot chalk board in the Kitchen for us to "DRAW ON" ---we would ractice JG art at home -
I continue to draw - illustrating Books - and doing pin stripe & air Brush on Harley's
omg this is awesome im a young artist so i never heard of him but im glad i do now because his tutorials work better than our modern one, and i love how he makes everything so simple and he is now one of my greatest inspiration now i will definally subscribe, and was ur dad....THATS FREAK AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am trying to teach myself to draw with charcoal and I love this video. I will be scbscribeing and studing the way he draws. I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for putting his work up so others may learn from him, that way he is still with us today. I was born in 1967 so I did not get to see the TV show but I can watch the videos here. Thanks!!!!!!
I am glad you continue to be inspired by my father. He died in 1981, but his spirit and talent live on through his students. We are doing our best to bring his teaching to newer generations. Thanks for your note. PGS
life jus simply simpler and better in those black n white days....appreciation to our forefathers fr every thing they have done in contribution to e society, cheers~
Wow! Thoughts of Jon Gnagy just popped into my head the other day. I so much enjoyed watching his art/drawing program each Saturday morning on my local NYC TV station. As someone else said in their comment, Jon Gnagy was the '50's version of Bob Ross, another man who creates great memories. A very warm thank you to Exprex for making this stable, high-quality footage available for all to enjoy. Thank you!
I just now ran across your kind words (written a year ago!), and I appreciate your regard for my father's work. He really cared about his teaching, and it would please him greatly to know that his work is still enjoyed and appreciated. PGS

I do like his art, but the thing about it is that it was very bold, and didn't have much decoration, but a very talented artist! :)

I like his art, but the thing about it, is his drawing's were very bold, and not much detail, although a talented artist! :)

Yes and no. He worked with charcoal, but I think some of the pieces were larger than the pastel pencils in the kit. PGS

In an time when the majority of television programs
were sent and received in black-and-white, Jon Gnagy
showed great coolness. He rendered his compositions
in black, dark grey and light grey. Absence of color
posed no handicap to the master!
