Even though they showed Dom being arrested, I think there will be some light reduction in his sentencing since it was merciful homicide. It was not intentional.

I can't believe they cancelled Cold Case when there are a million cop shows that are all the same, and this is DIFFERENT. The endings alone make it stand out as unique. And they never fail to make me bawl, whatever the episode! The music is pefect, and the mixing of past and present characters at the end is genius.
They are repeating all the episodes on Universal over here. Luckily I caught the first episode (they've shown 1st 10 so far) and I'm recording them all to keep all the end songs!

He smothered her, she was pretty much brain dead at that point due to the electric shocks so he thought it would be better for her to die than have to be somebody she didn't want to be.
This broke my heart. The So called Psychiatric feild, most of them were quaks. Did an enormous amount of damage to millions of lives which they will never be held accountable for.

The idea was to bring to light this 'therapy' and its occasionally harmful side-effects. Unfortunately at the time they didn't know that much about the side-effects and scandals like this were often 'covered up' to avoid judgement on the hospitals that utilised it. ECT is still used today in some hospitals despite its being a controversial psychiatric treatment.

At the time this is set they didnt know much about side effects of the treatment, but it can damage the brain and cause amnesia, confusion, and cognitive deficits which could be short or long term. This is probably what happened to Sam. Although these effects probably would have worn off in time. Possibly my favourite episode. So sad.

one thing about the episode (which was great i love the 50s ones) why did he want to keep that a secret? You would think he would have wanted to talk about this.
Just finished watching this episode and I am a mess. I've known too many women and men having to fight to prove there is nothing wrong with them. This ending was absolutely heart wrenching!

This episode of Cold Case was about a girl in the 1960's that liked to dress like a boy. Not a lesbian, just refused to conform. Unfortunately the 60's were a bad time. Her father put her in a mental institute to do some behavior modification. She just couldn't do it and had the kid kill her to "make me free" The guy who killed her was her only friend and love interest. Hope this helps. :)
It remembers a great book from Guimarães Rosa: "Grande Sertão Veredas" (Ii don't know how to translate it). In the end of the book the main character (who was in love with his friend Diadorim - that was a girl in man clothes) said that doesnt matter if he loves a boy or a girl... he loves the person Diadorim was. And this book was written in 1956!!!
This episode had a profound influence over me. It truly got me thinking, and almost depressingly so. I'm similar to Sam in a way...a boy trapped in a girl's body. I'm also homosexual (as in, attracted to men). I can sympathize with the main character, that want to be free.

Sam was just a person trying to be free and I don't think she was trans or gay or something like that.I mean, she was herself and she didn't like "boys", she liked Dom particulary, because they were best friends and they understood each other. She dressed like a boy and she seemed like a boy but it doesn't mean she couldn't love Dom, the only person who understood her. But i don't think Dom deserved to be in jail, he was just being a good friend and he loved her
I doubt what he did would be considered murder. Maybe manslaughter, but given the time period thats passed, and that he was a minor at the time, he probably wouldn't be convicted of anything. I don't think he is guilty of anything, truthfully....um..why aren't my comments going where I put them as replies?
Either way, Im not sure I can respect her choice. Everyone has to pick their battles. All of us have times when we just smile, do as we are told and grit our teeth, even though we feel like screaming. A strong person knows who they are no matter what circumstances force them to do. But maybe it wasn't a choice, maybe she simply couldn't act against her nature even for a short time.

Beautiful!!!
It remembers a great book from Guimarães Rosa: "Grande Sertão Veredas" (Ii don't know how to translate it). In the end of the book the main character (who was in love with his friend Diadorim - that was a girl in man clothes) said that doesnt matter if he loves a boy or a girl... he loves the person Diadorim was. And this book was written in 1956!!!

This episode had a profound influence over me. It truly got me thinking, and almost depressingly so. I'm similar to Sam in a way...a boy trapped in a girl's body. I'm also homosexual (as in, attracted to men). I can sympathize with the main character, that want to be free.
This episode really moved me.

I totally loved this episode... Sam was just a person trying to be free and I don't think she was trans or gay or something like that.I mean, she was herself and she didn't like "boys", she liked Dom particulary, because they were best friends and they understood each other. She dressed like a boy and she seemed like a boy but it doesn't mean she couldn't love Dom, the only person who understood her. But i don't think Dom deserved to be in jail, he was just being a good friend and he loved her

I doubt what he did would be considered murder. Maybe manslaughter, but given the time period thats passed, and that he was a minor at the time, he probably wouldn't be convicted of anything. I don't think he is guilty of anything, truthfully....um..why aren't my comments going where I put them as replies?

That is a female to male who liked other men.

Either way, Im not sure I can respect her choice. Everyone has to pick their battles. All of us have times when we just smile, do as we are told and grit our teeth, even though we feel like screaming. A strong person knows who they are no matter what circumstances force them to do. But maybe it wasn't a choice, maybe she simply couldn't act against her nature even for a short time.

Im not sure thats correct. Sam was more then a tomboy, I think. If she was just a tomboy she wouldn't fight the makeup or see it as such an attack on her identity. She was transgender, but attracted to men.
