  • I would like to add to my story one important observation. Klaus Nomi's mind and soul had an even larger spectrum than his voice. It was always such a treat to be with him. Witty, brilliantly smart, very understanding and above all equipped with an ultra dry humor that was highly contagious. I wish people would have had a chance to not only hear Klaus, but to feel him personally. :)

  • Unbelievable, but 35 years ago I was sitting with Klaus Nomi in the cellar room of my best friend in Bavaria. It was winter with two feet of snow outside, but nice and warm inside. We were sitting in pot-fog and it was as funny as can be. The more time passes, the more I cherish this most amazing evening. :)

  • @youralmostthere Thanks for sharing!

  • @youralmostthere what a beautiful memory to have.

  • So this is where Lady Gaga and Madonna got their outrageous fashion ideas from! Beaten to the punch by a man.

  • @carlacostantino And he ripped off David Bowie, and David Bowie ripped off Japanese Haute Coture....blah blah...

Thank you for having some brains and a concept of history, unlike the rest of western world.

  • zu gut fuer diese welt-ruhe in frieden.......

  • klausnomicoldgenius.blogspot.com/

  • Feels like I'm running from Zombies on a shitty day half alive in slow motion.

  • (crying for the greatness of this performance) he just stands there in that kind of orinic scene and let his voice make all the rest to make us dream.

no se puede ser tan groso.!!!!

  • Even after almost 30 years, I still miss Klaus Nomi and his special gifts. He left us all far too soon.

  • Klaus Nomi had a supearlative voice,incredible!

  • Cela restera toujours exeptionnelle. Superbe

  • Unique!!

  • This is actually music of Henry Purcell (English organist and Baroque composer of secular and sacred music). Klaus interpreted it.

  • Juste un mot " MERCI ".

  • Love it !!! Klaus is one of the few human who are leaving their legcy on the planet...

  • This work was originally written for bass vox in the 17th century. However, in respect for Klaus I have read than many perform this with contra-tenor as Nomi did.

  • Its nearly 5 O´clock in the morning an I´m listening to Nomi... . I must be crazy... . :D

  • Did he actually write these lyrics and music? It seems like an opera...

  • @chinafakeeggs no, this song was written by the composer henry purcell for his semi-opera "king arthur" in the 17th century. read the description

  • I've never heard of him before. I came across him listening to the same song - performed by Andreas Scholl. What a difference! What a voice! What a performance! He comes pretty close to the heart of the piece - or might have hidden it... Great!

  • sublime¡¡¡

  • Saturday night music. lol. But way better than some of modern music bands.

  • I weep when I see what passes for art or performance these days.

I look to the '70's and '80's, and although there was a lot of camp, low budget, and questionable experimenting, it was done with such professionalism and care., A certain je ne sais quoi that just puts it miles above what we have today.

    A better time...

  • Genio y figura, Klaus Nomi- henry Purcell (let me, let me.... freeze again to death!!!!!!!!!

  • Großartig!

  • Klaus is amazing,

    Operatic Art Nouveaux

STUNNING, so original and timeless beyond comprehension

  • I don`t give a F****,if you love or hate gay people! I am straight, but I have a huge respect for Mr Klaus! he was pure artist with style and honestly - hard to find similar figures these days in ugly, plastic and horrible MTV`s world! R.I.P Klaus Nomi - you truly deserve that!

  • @marcinwolski1976 i'm with you! this man was amazing and thanks to him David Bowie came to the light

  • @marcinwolski1976 I'm straight, and I love Klaus Nomi. I discovered him looking for the Cold Genius aria (this), and eventually found out that it was originally written for bass, so it's now a part of my repertoire.

  • @marcinwolski1976 i want to applaude you for your true words..........you understand something many narrowminded straight people will never understand............ have a good life.........and i know you will

  • Love Klaus. More unique male singers, MORE UNIQUE MALE SINGERS!

  • to put it quite simply, there will never be another performer like this man. his talents and vocal range were extraordinary. we will never see a talent like this in our lifetime. rest in peace mr. nomi.

  • Si, extraordinario.. Bravo Klaus in the Sky.....

  • Is there any more info on Janus? who is she? I see her in a bunch of his performances and videos, but i dont ever hear anything about her. only Joey.

  • Once again, we're blessed with this high quality French TV clip. I don't know where Trylonperisphere gets them, but these are pure gold. Thanks for posting these!

  • The guy on the far right on the screen has an exceptionally large head. That is all.

  • essa musica é muito dificil de cantar, man!!!

  • I was lucky enough to catch the documentary about him, and it was fantastic!

  • Klaus Nomi R.I.P

  • That is probably the weirdest shit I have seen in a long time!

  • in a world full of caterpillars, it takes balls to be a butterfly...

  • C'est trop lourd ! Allez écouter ce que fait Nikoulaus Harnoncourt, le vieux pionnier du Baroque, notre génial maître à tous !! Incomparable, dérangeant, completement credible, sur youtube : Purcell: KING ARTHUR: What power art thou, who from below...

  • Always the same theme: Feeling strange in an world you got to live in without to belong. Wonderful voice!

  • beautiful... such an incredible song. and his voice is perfection. I love Klaus Nomi

  • Purcell meet Oscar Schlemmer's triadisisch Ballet.

  • Wow, I can't believe I just discovered this. I think I'm in love.

  • it was a living and singing hr giger sculpture ^^

  • He seriously is amazing, I mean the mood, the voice, it's amazing.

  • Gothic ..

  • Great and Classsssssic!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...klaus has never got the honour which he deserved...his voice and music will never die...god bless you, klaus!!!!

  • I fucking love him.

  • Whenever I listen to this particular song, for half a asecond, im not sure if this is real or not. Such an ethereal voice and stage presence. No one comes close. Your music will live forever Klaus Nomi.

  • It's Benjamin Linus! With makeup on. And singing. And not a dick.

  • Who ever posted this is a Golden Plated God!!! Klaus forever, forever Klaus!!!

  • quelle voix sublime jaime

  • brilliant!

  • I am just introduced to Nomi today. I have to genuinely ask myself the question, for the first time in many, many years, whether or not: "if a performer has revitalized interest in a performer or piece and done it great justice with great feeling, and people come to think of it as that performer's original work, do these fans and this performer deserve to be disillusioned of their fantasy?"

  • Mmmm not quite sure what you mean there?

Purcell rules and made the chords and dissonants he is famous for, Nomi gave it a face so credit to both and both: rip, hope they meet in heaven somewhere and create more so I can later enjoy it as much as I do there cooperation here....

  • @gabrielapetrie This comment is a perfect example of Totally Not Getting It methinks.

Nobody's claiming Nomi wrote this song, if you look at the info by the person who posted this video, it credits the composer. Nobody's confused here but you.

  • The concepts and vocals of Klaus are phenomenal RIP Klaus.

  • Klaus never died, he is alive with in us all. Back to space to save the human race.

  • sabatier était trop jeune à cette époque voyez plutot....

  • Es sencillamente brutal, viva el Cabaret Galactico!

  • Klaus Nomi continues to mesmerize.

  • He's scary, but most creative geniuses are a little strange.

  • EXTRAORDINÁRIO MEEEESMO. Gente, que babaro.

    Gostei muito, muito, muito.

  • I hate to sound like an idiot, but who are those two guys I always see with Klaus Nomi whenever he preformed live?

  • In this case, that's Janus on the left and Joey Arias on the right. Joey was with Klaus when he backed up Bowie on SNL.

  • @cookietoad21 Wow you do know about Nomi to bad i never got to see him i was born one year after his death :0(

  • @cookietoad21 Weird Science Music!!!

  • @cookietoad21 They are also Aliens like Klaus :)

  • Realmente!

  • I love him.

  • He's not that scary. Even if he was, his genius overrides his scariness.

  • O ancien temps où on entendait de l'opéra sur une chaîne familiale à une heure populaire... (ou l'inverse) ! Merci.

  • the guy the plays ben linus would make an amazing klaus nomi in a movie

  • Amazing. Saw him with Bowie on SNL, fascinated ever since. An astounding talent pushing the boundaries of music and art at the same time.

  • I`m a fan of Klaus Nomi from the very beginning.Unfortunately he only had ONE hit in Holland, but I loved the classical songs, like this one from Henry Purcell`s Didiand Aeneas. Thank you for posting this video.

  • The Cold Song is from Purcell's King Arthur

  • WOW!!!!!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like Klaus nomi, I think he and Gary numan are from the same planet.

  • I don't know why but watching this character somehow reminds me of The 13th Floor Elevators.

  • There was a similar focusing trick in one of there videos.

  • They both blew heads in their respective eras and we still haven't entered a time when either is irrelevant.

  • Good point.

  • I had a few Klaus Nomi songs on a mix tape my dad made, including this one, and they just blew me away! more people need to discover his greatness!! R.I.P.

  • Breathtaking!!!

  • Magistral.

    J'adore ce type.

  • Great. R.I.P.

  • Master

  • I miss this guy a lot.

  • I want to ride on that spaceship with Klaus as the starship comander!

  • love his costumes and make up. its because of him david bowie became famous

  • Huh? Bowie was famous long before Klaus.

  • its from the same requiem that is in the clockwork orange???????

  • No it is not.

  • But the main theme in Clockwork Orange is by Henry Purcell. It is Funeral March for Queen Mary you are thinking about.

  • OH my god what an original otherworldly genius. Incredible voice and stunningly beautiful music. So refreshing to see someone follow their vision so powerfully. Amazing voice amazing stage presence. Bravo Klaus

  • Doesnt it sound like the guy presenting Klaus Nomi says "Mr Clarosse Nami"?

  • Maybe that's because it was a french show and he pronounced name with a french accent - "Monsieur Klaus Nomi" with stresses on "u" and "i"

  • unbelievably beautiful.

the glory of the (early) 80s...

  • What power art thou, who from below

Hast made me rise unwillingly and slow

    From beds of everlasting snow

See'st thou not ( how stiff )2) and wondrous old

Far unfit to bear the bitter cold,

I ( can scarcely move or draw my breath )2)

Let me, let me freeze again to death.3)
