Because English is a second language to most Hongkkongers, I'm pretty sure people inside the bar could understand what Kelly said, since it's a high-class hotel, meaning people should be educated.
Not all Hongkongers know English but most of us can understand it pretty well. Hong Kong is not mainland China or Japan.
As a side note, English, along with Chinese, are the official languages of Hong Kong(we were a British colony, in case you didn't know).
Because English is the second language for most Hongkongers. He translated her just to ensure everyone can understand her perfectly(my guess). Anyways, I would say, a large number of Hongongers may not be able to understand Kelly(since she's speaking a bit faster than the others), yet I'm sure that everybody in that bar can understand her.
Btw, English is a compulsory subject to study in our schools and having a good grade in English is essential to obtain higher education.
Yea, and it's like in many European countries, say, if Kelly visits Germany, they will translate her as well.
We use characters to write, but not alphabets like ABC, we use characters like 香港(this means Hong Kong) while mainland Chinese use simplified characters.
And thanks for your compliment to HK! I've heard that Denmark is a beautiful place as well, never been to your country though.
oh yea i forgot that, it's so annoying, and they do it, when SHE TALKS, really annoying. but ain't it hard then to learn the alphabet? i mean it's hard enough to understand characters, but then you also have to understand the alphabet.
oh no, do not come to Denmark, we have a fantastic community, but that's it.
i'm proud of my country, and that we won over sweden, in soccer, just makes me more proud :] haha :]
Well, there are only 26 alphabets and we learn English since we're like 4 years all, and most of us are not good at English at all(yet can basically understand English). I'm already among the best group of students in Hong Kong.
However, if you compare English with Chinese/Cantonese, it's not hard at all! There're endless number of Chinese characters and 9 sounds for phonix(while English has none). It is said that Cantonese is the second-most difficult language to learn behind French in the world!
oh that's pretty good, and what i have seen, you're really good at english!!
right on :]
and cool you already learn english when you're 4, in Denmark it's first in 3th grade, they just change it, like 2 years ago or something, befor was it in 4th grade, but they found out it was to hard to learn befor the exam, so too bad for us who started to have english in 4th grade ;P haha :]
Actually, since most of our parents are EXTREMELY concerned of their children's English standard, they tried their best to expose their children to English as possible, like hiring a maid who's good at English to take care of their children after their birth, and paid a lot to place them in international(English) kindergarden, then primary school and of course English secondary school...It is said that all 3rd grade students now can speak English...
wow, 3rd grade, that's yea i don't know, crazy maybe, but kind of cool, that would be so much easier if it was like that in Denmark, but on the other hand, we don't need it :]
and that you have to learn another language wow, i have to do that too, i have to learn German, it's actually pretty hard for me, i'm really bad at it, but it doesn't really matters for my grades, so i'm happy:]
i hope i can take Italian next year, instead, cause i'm really bad at Germany:] not like you care anyway xD
You know, Hong Kong has many English-speaking visitors and some even live in HK, plus, we're quite pro-western, and we regard us as an 'international city', so, English is essentia for us although we may not use it with our friends in daily life(well, most of us DO chat a lot in English through computer - that's easier to type). My vocal coach once taught me how to pronounce German but I've totally forgotten now :P
haha i also forget german all the time, i have tried to learn it in 2 years now, and all i can say is halo my name is, and all that, totally suck at it :]
i seriously have to visit Hong Kong someday, but ain't there a lot of gases, you know from cars and all that?
That's air pollution, like London, but London's more serious. Harmful gas emitted from cars is called CO1 I think but you won't die with breathing in Hong Kong. But if you've got sensitive noise and maybe sensitive breathing system, you may cough or have running noise or something like that. It's the common problem for big cities, Hong Kong is not the most serious place for that.
yea i think too, Denmark is really not that big, so i understand them, but i guess Denmark is actually okay when i think about the history, but still we're a small country :]
Well, Denmark is not even among the smallest countries on Earth :P
And you have Greenland! And with the establishment of EU and all its previous similar organizations, being 'small' is not a matter for Denmark now...Plus, usually big countries got lots more problems(except for Canada and maybe Russia 'cuz they have nearly no population on most parts of land :P)!
wow you know a lot of things, wow really, but you're right, we're not that many people so we have the money to take care of everybody, and we're a rich country, but for me it's not exciting enough;P
Well, didn't understand English wouldn't be the reason why they were not excited. They wre not excited because some of them got the tickets for free without even knowing who Kelly Clarkson really is(or not fond of), yet, since many people were the residents of the hotel, as the visitors to Hong Kong, they should be capable to understand English.
Yet, it's not Kelly doesn't have fans in HK, but the organizer's fault of setting a weird barrier over getting a ticket.
She's amazing live! I would've killed to see this..I swear..how did you find out that this was happening?? I randomly found out like 5 minutes ago :( i'm soo upset!! lol but thx for sharing!!
I've recorded the entire show and uploading now, I would say they will all be uploaded before Thursday but I can't garantee anything, especially when all of them are in HD format.
As a side note, she did not sing "All I Ever Wanted".

Hongkongers speak English.

then why did the guy translate it, in the interview?

yea she actually speaks pretty fast, and she sometimes, say the words on a different way, because she's from the country.
and it's kind of the same in Denmark, Danish, Math, and English are the main subjects, if you ain't good at that, then you can't get a education.
doesn't you use characters to write with, or i'm i really stupid?
oh and god there is pretty on hong kong, i just saw a picture, wow !!
