  • Spencer gets super pissed at the end, losing the melody and submitting to the RAGEEE. Lmao xD

  • thall up the djent-o-sphere music sucks

  • I feel like Periphery are the trolls here, and Meshuggah is mad, bro.

  • This is ridiculous topic. Meshuggah invented all these "djent" bands that get born 1000 a day. Simply put - no Meshuggah, no Periphery. Whew that was easy. And all this djent hype resembles the nu metal one from a decade ago. Relax, wait a year or two and the djent kids with 100000-string guitars all sounding the same, will disappear faster than they've popped. While Meshuggah make timeless music, not related to any genre hype, so they are here to stay.

  • @snupcho Well it's ridiculous to turn Djent into a genre to be honest. Good thing Periphery isn't a "Djent" band, at least not self proclaimed, they deny that djent is a genre and have never called themselves as such. Periphery is making new, interesting music, Meshuggah is great but it isn't really that different from most other metal, other than maybe being better. I'm getting a little tired of both sides with their polorised views, wish I'd never asked which "the winner" was.

  • @WTFDSDT Oh man, be honest. Don't try to tell me Periphery are not Meshuggah heavily influenced, just like AAL, Vidjharta and tones of other followers of the 8-string sound and syncopated 4/4 beat...which was brought to mainstream by Meshuggah. Where were all these band in 2005, or even in 2002? Because Meshuggah was already making 8-string albums by that time. Periphery is just having the Meshuggah sound developed in a more melodic way, that's all. Nothing that much genial or special.

  • @snupcho Please, I would not deny that, periphery don't they admit they're influenced by them, but as a meshuggah fan to be all entitled about it almost to the degree where it's almost like you think they might as well have produced periphery's work and claim it's basically the same thing is like claiming that birds existence comes from horses and are basically the same animal.

  • @snupcho Everyone knows periphery are meshuggah influenced the words Djent came from Misha Mansoor Describing frederiks Tone and he said it was Djent'y loads of people just took the words as something eles. and before you start talking about bands with 10000 strings remember meshuggah use 8 periphery use 7.

  • Reality>Dreams

    Dreams are fun, though.

  • i love the end... DREAM!

  • I favor reality(Meshuggah). lol

  • Djreams

  • How do the comments on this fucking awesome (on so many levels) video get so self-righteous and opinionated? Im still laughing.

  • @perfecteye18 Hey thanks man.

I try and delete all the ones that are pure BS.

But I don't like deleting any of the more bullshit ones if they've been remotly reasonable about it. maybe I should delete more comments, not sure.

  • Why do people hate him? Because he whines, and bitches whine. And metalheads arent bitches.

  • @Cruentus903

    What are you talking about?

  • @WTFDSDT I dont like his voice because it's whiny and overproduced. Also I saw them live and he was pretty bad....

  • @Cruentus903 Oh right you mean whiny as in the subjective tone of his voice, fair enough but you didn't really need to come here to say that.

But at somepoints i sympathise with the overproduced side of your comments, this year the two albums they're recording will use no tuning so that should be helped. I saw them live, spencer was okay (he had a chest infection and diarreha, so props to him.) but the microphone was half broken.

  • Im one of those who only listens to the instrumentals. Ill always give him another shot on the new album, but whiny vocals are not purely subjective. Metal as an ever changing genre goes through changes to be sure, but whining as a verb is something that is generally considered annoying by most. Metal was known to have something of a tough additude to it, and it a whiny frontman just wrecks that. Unfortunatly it seems to be more prevolent in modern metal.

  • @Cruentus903

I wouldn't pin this on modern metal personally, and how someone defines whiny vocals is pretty subjective. In my opinion Megadeth vocals sound whiny. To each their own my friend, sorry they're not making what you want to hear but I'm sure there's plenty of other bands out there doing just that. :)

  • @WTFDSDT No, I am insisting that there is an adjective known as whining, and that it applies to music as well. Whining has a certain connotation that I did not invent. I wouldnt argue with you about megadeath. It's a nasal sound. Periphery has a poor vocalist from what I've seen. Hands down. He just doesnt seem to be a very good singer, or growler for that matter. Im not saying all nasal vocalists suck, but it is often frowned upon, and for a legitimate reason.

  • @Cruentus903

Well again, we'll have to agree to disagree.

  • @WTFDSDT You'd consider him a good singer? Really? I got high standards, Ill admit, but the guy couldnt even hit pitches on stage.

  • @Cruentus903 Yeah of course I would, I've heard him demonstrate vocals in person, (as in not on stage) Remarkable talent. But you're not going to slay it every show when you were touring as hard as they have toured most of their young career, spence is inexperienced and through almost the entire first UK tour they were all ill, pretty sure they had overstrained themselves for most of their touring.

  • I dont care how good a singer he is in person if he cant pull it off either on stage OR in the studio. While clean it's almost like hes trying to mimic an autotuner ALL the time, judging by the several live performances I just watched, I think he must be using one quite a lot in the studio. Good versatile vocalists, Freddie Mercury, Mikael Akerfeldt, Gray Maynard, Marco Hietala. They adjust to the music behind them. Spence doesnt seem to be able to do that.

  • THIS IS FUCKING HILARIOUS

  • LMFAO!!

  • Meshuggah destroys all... dreams and reality aside... fuck the world!

  • lol

  • funny video.Periphery=awesome.Spencer ruins nothing. Some people only think you can have sreaming growling shit with this style of music. They can't see how much more amazing good vocals like HIS really makes it. i would rather listen to Periphery than pretty much any other metal/djent group because of his style and range. You can enjoy the intense crazy metal + just chill out and listen to it without annoying monontonous growly shit. Anyone who dislikes his vox.. please show me something better.

  • @deadneck69 thanks, man.

  • @deadneck69 Amen brother! I mean, i like gowls and stuff alot. But Spencer fits so perfect to the sound of Periphery. It sound kinda fresh. It's not that he sings and screams like every Metalcore/whateverthefuck-Band. He just sound different and got an amazing range. Also he can scream very well!

  • Spencer FTW

  • I like Meshuggah. They keep it real.

  • LOL @ Periphery apologists.

  • Comment removed

  • i dont understand...why does everybody hate Spencer's vocals?! Best fucking vocals ive ever heard!

  • @TheColon3Face And he's only getting better. :)

  • WIN WIN!

  • Both bands are awesome. Meshuggah is far more technically skilled though, I think we all can agree on that.

  • @draugsvoll01 oh hell yea but periphery is EXTREMELY young they've got a long way to go. im really just talking about each one of them as artists but we'll see how far they go as a band

  • REALITY!

  • @AcidSh33tz DREAMS!

  • Meshuggah seems like the prototype for modern metal these days.

  • @Trippinhighman Not really a bad thing, ain't it?

  • @Eukatheude It is considering the majority of the bands coming out now are literally copying Meshuggah and Periphery.

  • dang how many times does he say that periphery only has one album ha

  • meshuggah wins. flawless victory

  • While both bands presented relevant arguments, it is my personal opinion that Meshuggah stuck to the facts while Periphery tended to appeal to emotion to prove some of their points.

    Reality wins.

  • WE ARE THE TEA

  • I'd go with Dreams, but Meshuggah is the better band.

  • Boys vs Men

  • Dreality.

  • @MitchReitmanOnDrums Mind=Blown

  • spencer is fucking amazing. period.

  • lololololololzzz!

  • I love Periphery and Meshuggah and i enjoyed the vid.

  • ...i like both... i dont really care if anyone disagrees with me, cause thats their opinion, and if they dont like spencer, it doesnt matter, cause it doesnt look like he's leaving, and the opinion of someone on youtube probably wont get him to leave either

  • I must say, Spencer ruins the entire mood of their songs. Every time I hear they're Instumentals, I'm just sooo in to it, and then they're emo-sounding singer kicks in and ruins it. Fuck Periphery, They'd be better off as an instrumental band.

  • @AndyDrew003 Fuck Periphery? Fuck you. Just listen to the instrumentals and stop hating if that's the case.

  • @WTFDSDT Kinda hard when spencer is "singing" over it. Lol, butthurt Periphery fan.

  • @AndyDrew003 You completly missed my point.

Listen to the instrumental release, I'm not talking about ignoring his vocals.

And I didn't say that because I'm butthurt but because It makes you a pissy little ingrate to insult a band because they're not making music you like, especially when they HAVE made music you like.

    Lol, misinformed person.

  • @WTFDSDT Lol... whatever you say man... I do have the instumental.... Just saying, they need to kick that guy out... so they can start ACTUALLY releasing good shit.

  • @AndyDrew003 I feel the same way about Meshuggah :P

  • @AndyDrew003 I believe he does match the mood, and his voice is very good. You have to realize the talent in this band, each and every member brings a major part of Periphery together. My favorite members has got to be

Matt, because his sound is just amazing and he's so fluid, Misha and the others are equally as good and bring their own talents to the table, like the interludes that Jake does between the songs, Misha and Alex/Mark's creativity. Tom's grooves that will be missed. It's all there

  • @AndyDrew003 And I believe Spencer adds the last bit of expression that the songs, in my opinion need. Music can only do so much on it's own, but the lyrics add a whole other layer of interpretation to the music. Technically, Spencer has a range that compliments the bands music very much, that's why I don't think Casey would have been a good fit. Like during the end of Buttersnips when he's singing the really high note at the end, there's so much sound coming out but Spence holds his own.

  • @AndyDrew003 To simply call Spencer an Emo sounding singer is extremely degrading more than anything else. The dude has talent and that's something you can't deny. Misha has said this before to people like you saying that, they're not an instrumental band, if you want instrumental look somewhere else and deal with it.

Oh and fuck you for your ignorant opinion.

  • @Kenji20022 ignorant? lmao. listen to hawthorn heights or some shit like that and the vocals are pretty much the same. Degrading? you bet your ass its degrading! probably the most degrading thing to happen to metal in a long time. so glad you see my point. Ignorance would mean I didn't even listen to it AND THEN said he sounds like a sing for some emo band.

  • @AndyDrew003 Find another singer that would fit Periphery, because they've never been an instrumental band. Bulb may have had his ideas, but Periphery was always supposed to have a singer. I mean besides Devin Townsend I don't think anyone else could really fit the mood to these songs, and you're the reason the metal scene is dying, not like I care really. Last conversation I had with a metal head involved Dying Fetus, and me walking away from the conversation with less faith in humanity.

  • @Kenji20022 Devin Townsend is an amazing vocalist... simply amazing, The metal scene is dying due to the over population of hyper-mass-cloned "core" bands. one copy after another after another after another. these bands need to find their own sound. Periphery does have a good sound, (I was just trying to get a rise out of the periphery fans) put toooo many are trying this so called "djent" style. hey people... meshuggah did that already, its time to try something new.

  • @AndyDrew003 I agree with you in that sense, and yeah man Devin is the man! Love everything he even graces. And Djent is a joke, it's just progressive metal with a certain tone, and people act like it's the sound of the heavens when it's clearly not. The fact that I was listening to Meshuggah on campus the other day at my college, and some kid asked me if I listen to Djent. I humored him, and he got a bit excited and asked if I listen to Attack Attack, and Asking Alexandria. I walked away haha

  • @Kenji20022 Definitely hate Attack attack, and asking alexandria. but if your opinion still stands that I'm the reason for metal dying...whatever. but in my opinion, as long as there's people still listening to "old school" bands, then metal will always have something to base itself off of. without that original sound, metal would never head in any direction at all. if that older sound disappears, then we'd only have the new trends to work off of and we'd be screwed.

  • @AndyDrew003 I just don't like the crusader like attitude of cutting down everything in your wake if it doesn't sound the way you want them to. And we'll never lose old influences, perhaps future generations might because modern metal is becoming more prominent. Kids of the next generation will look at bands like Metallica, and Megadeth, with the same type of feeling kids of this generation apply to bands like steely dan, and allan holds worth. Hold on to your influences is all I gotta say

  • @Kenji20022 Agreed. Completely.

  • @Kenji20022 Uh....the singer they had before? Chris Barreto had some badass growls and really gave some depth to the heavy parts of their songs. Spencer's just too monotone for me during his screaming, and his singing is pretty whiny. They could easily improve.

  • @AndyDrew003 Fuck you, I love spencer

  • @AndyDrew003 First off...there, their, and they're all have different meanings. Use correct grammar if you want your opinions to be credible. Second..."emo-sounding singer.." What does that even mean? Do you consider any vocalist that actually SINGS emo?

  • @DontPieceMe221

they were an instrumental band at first. but they felt it didn't feel complete without vocals. they released an album with spencer and released it instrumentally to because indeed that's what people were most used to. Spencer is an amazing vocalist and i snowhere near bad. live he had some difficulties but that's normal, the level of diffiulty of the singing parts is incredible but he is getting better and better. stop complaining.

  • wow fuck the spencer haters

  • reality untouchable

  • @DontPieceMe221 Is it weird then that I like his voice..? I mean, they could do a hell of a lot worse. They could get that whiny fucker who does the clean vocals in every single post-hardcore band ever. That would be a lot worse.

  • @851852093114208513 Not weird, we just have different tastes. And I agree that they could do a lot worse. I'm sure he'll improve too, but until that happens I'll stick to the instrumental versions.

  • @DontPieceMe221

Well, obviously I don't speak for the band but it would seem to me like they realeased the instrumental because at that point that's what Periphery fans were most used to and well, to be fair Spencer was essentially at the begining of his career then and I've heard them say that "he's got SO much potential" and that "he's improved SO much" over this last year or so and I would agree, I still argue he could not be considered bad in the first place.

  • This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object

  • Lolololol guyzzz I'm a misunderstood 13 year old teenager and singing doesn't belong in metal and it's gay.

There's nothing wrong with singing so stop being so close minded. Spencer fuckin' rocks it too.

  • Jens Kidman > other dude

  • spencer isfucking good, because he actuallysingstoo

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • REALITY...

    dreeeeeeeams...

    Awesome.

  • Meshuggah is the winner, simply because they are perhaps Periphery's main inspiration.

No Meshuggah, no Periphery as we know them.

No Meshuggah, no tonnesofotherbands as we knoe them.

    No Meshuggah, no djent.

  • Periphery: Musicians = Win, Spencer = FAIL! FUCKING FAIL!

Meshuggah: Musicians = Win, Jens = Win + Badass + Plays guitar

Feel free to add and defend Spencer if you must. MUAHAHA!

  • @Freezaen

I'm interested to know why you think spencer fails.

  • @WTFDSDT His voice is really annoying, sounds choked/nose/too high for cleans and sounds like he has shitloads of snot in his throat for growls (if you can call them that). I know it sounds like hate, but it isn't, he gets to sing with periphery, koodos to him. That being said, they could ahve a MUCH better vocalist, maybe something along the lines of The Contortionist's singer who has very nice, smooth cleans and Scarry fuckin' growls.

  • @Freezaen Listen to him in Passenger by Haunted Shores.

  • @Freezaen Truth is, I really like Spencer, but now I'm intrigued to hear Periphery with The Contortionist's vocalist, because yes, he's also awesome!

  • @WTFDSDT Me too! I'm not a huge fan of his vocals for aesthetic reasons (IMO they're a little "screamo" sounding in places, I guess?). But I still think he's *really* talented anyway.

  • @WTFDSDT Because he sings. Attn Djent bands: STOP SINGING.

  • @WTFDSDT Because he's in Periphery.

  • @BeDjentleAZ Derp?

  • @WTFDSDT Well I can see that you're obviously 13 years old so I'm gonna go and be an dult somewhere else.

  • @BeDjentleAZ Actually I'm 19.

Maturity is knowing when immaturity is acceptable. Grow up.

  • @WTFDSDT Yes I need to grow up when you're the one quoting internet memes at a total stranger. Game. Set. Match. Later bro.

  • @BeDjentleAZ Obviously you do, since you apparently cannot read.

Oh and to adopt your tactic FULL STOP, END OF STORY LALALALA I'M NOT LISTENING. :')

  • @Freezaen Spencer doesn't fail. His voice goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox! D:

  • @Freezaen I don't care much for either of their vocalists haha

  • @Freezaen Spencer puts more emphasis on melody than Jens. That means Spencer wins.

  • @Freezaen Agreed. Spencer = Can't sing, can't scream. Meshuggah = Constant win!

  • @Freezaen Impying Spencer isn't a musician.

  • Damn you didnt get it..

Meshuggah doesn't care about dreams cuz:

    THEY ARE THE TEA!

  • Lmao awesome

  • i like both bands, not gonna lie, but i quite like Periphery because its one of very few bands that i can show to anyone, read it, ANYONE, and they will enjoy it. the clean vocals make it more acceptable in the mainstream; normally people are super tight-assed and close minded about any music with screaming in it. basically it's a lot easier to get your girlfriend into Periphery then Meshuggah, so i find myself listening to way less 'Shuggah and way more Periphery nowadays.. :/

  • @MrFoxtrot898 dont take the easy path dude! go listen to some Brain Drill or something!

  • lmao!!..there is no argument...shuggah is WAY better than pussy ass sounding periphery...the drums are better..the guitars...lol//pleaze.....singer..lmao..shuggahs hardcore raw screams and deep vocals vs. peripherys ladylike singer.....SHUGGAH STOMPS RIPHERY ALL FUCKING DAY LONG!!!!!..MESHUGGAH IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD BITCH!!!!!!!!..THEN COMES VILDHJARTA!!!!!

  • REALITY!!!

  • dreams are reality. derp.

  • hahaha

  • i think Dreams wins. It's much better than Reality

  • MESHUGGAH!! Periphery does not belong here! BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!

  • @2PlayDead You listen to Oasis. Therefore, you are not allowed an opinion.

  • @MyNutsAreCold

I don't know man, I wouldn't usually deny anyone their right to an opinion.

Maybe I'd make an exception for Korn or System of a Down fans.... oh and Nickleback fans...

  • @MyNutsAreCold Do you think I can honestly take any of your statement(s) seriously with your username? What's wrong with Oasis? This music was hardly even around when Oasis were, ya dickhead.

  • @2PlayDead it's "kill it with fire", and periphery is amazing, you can't deny how groovy they are. just because they have singing doesn't make them any less talented that Meshuggah.

  • @Element115fl Goddamn it, why is it SOOOOOO hard to accept another person's opposite opinion? Periphery's instrumental work is good, yeah, but the vocals are god-awful. I mean, I don't understand why Periphery have him in the band- that pisses me off. There's no way you can't tell me that Meshuggah is less talented. Anyways, my point is that I'm not pissed because you say that my opinion is "wrong", I'm pissed because you think you are able to change it.

  • @2PlayDead Well if it isn't Mr. Close-minded! <3

  • @2PlayDead ..periphery tries to MIMIC shuggah...agree w/ bout the vocalist...if they changed the singer from a lil bitch to a real wicked hard vocalist they would shut up.....i cant bring my self to listen to a full song..the singer ruins it every time.....if your in the usa its your constitutional right to your opinion...if someone else doesnt like it..they can go fuck themselfs or go back to their pos communistic country.

  • @Deadnsd You nailed it right on the head! :P

  • @Deadnsd the best thing about periphery is that they issued an instrumental version of their album :D personally i find the singing unbearable, so instrumental makes it all better!

  • @petecairns6

I can accept "The singing isn't to my taste" but to find it unbearable? guy's a fucking incredibly talented vocalist.

But I admit it took me time to warm to it, when I first heard the demos with vocals i was like "It's good, but ehhh i'm not sure..." at that point I did prefer the instrumentals.

  • @petecairns6 mmm really??? could you point me in that direction...thnx

  • @Element115fl Btw..... Where did he get those singing lessons that allow him to sing and suck at the same time?

  • @2PlayDead its you opinion. he's actually a great singer. i happen to think Messhugah's screamer sucks ass. by thats my personal opinion too.

  • I love both, Meshuggah started the movement, and others are inspired.. thus more fucking incredible riffs for all of us... fucking love it... Got Djent?

  • @contractortwobitz rational gaze ftw

  • Most people don't know how to djent right.

  • Reality FTW!

  • I like juice

    Finish your juice

    Filtered Vitamin substance

  • Maybe Periphery is like Freddy Krueger and Meshuggah is like Jason Voorhees? There is your Dreams vs Reality. lol

  • So who won?

  • @faselblaDer3te

I like to think they both won.

  • @faselblaDer3te We did. We get the awesome music. DUH!

  • Genre: "Djent"

Genre Description: Various bands who have emerged in the past 3-6 years seeing who can be the best at ripping off what Meshuggah's been doing for 15 years.

  • @Nubnut

Didnt meshuggah start as a thrashey band that sounded almost exactly like metallica? No offense by that I love meshuggah to death.

  • @SprayXcheesE They definitely had Metallica influence but they didn't sound that much like them (where as with most Djent bands you can listen to just about any of their songs and hear some riffs directly lifted from songs off of Nothing).

If you listen to something like War you can hear how unique Meshuggah was even in their early days, as that song was written back in 1989 if I remember correctly, and yet put bands like Death and Slayer to shame in terms of heaviness.

  • @Nubnut

All I know is there is a huge difference from the old to new. The old just sounds very thrashey metallicaey. lol I agree most Djent that kids are trying to pass today is pretty lame. Anyone can play the same string skip shape hundreds of times in a row and it bums me out. Most music genres are doing that anymore. The pool has become stagnant and its really bumming me out.

As far as being unique, Meshuggah is one of the most that have emerged in the metal world and my hat is off.

  • reality :D

  • This made me laugh so much :')))

  • What an interesting argudjent. Yes, I went there.

  • compared to meshuggah, periphery is a cock sucking faggot. Word.

  • Reality.

  • reality!

  • whats the meshuggah song at 0:11

  • @CORNP00 'Elastic' on Chaosphere.

  • they represent both sides of a drug trip. First vivid dreaming then harsh painful reality

  • meshuggah song at 0:07?

  • meshuggah won lol

  • They needed the last "reality" from War (Rare Trax)!!!

  • Reminds me of Romantism/Baroco VS Classicism

  • What are the names of the meshuggah songs?

  • WE ALL LIKE TEA!

  • Reality will always concuer, sooner or later you will have to face it >:)

  • @BenjaminKuruga DREAMS

  • @Sidepiece2 REALITY

  • @BenjaminKuruga I heart u.

  • @Sidepiece2 <3

  • I always wondered how a periphery and meshuggah tour would be....

  • @StaulkHolm A dream within a dream. Dreamception or reality within reality. Realityception.

  • Meshuggah is swedish.. They win.
