Hmmm, you know that there is a widget to have a folder view set to the desktop. The desktop being a container of just icons I imagine, will be a thing of the past. KDE has just introduced (a very early version(kde4)) that really changes the way teh desktop is viewed. Now you can have virtual folders for your desktop icons, your downloads, your music, pictures, documents, all in different corners of the same workspace.

It means get rid of the piece of shit! KDE sucks major. It can't do anything. And if it can, it sucks at even that. It only loads half the pictures, can't play majority of ONLINE games, and the reboot time takes as long as a 7 year old Windows!!! This thing is crap.
I had ubunto for a while, but the lack of an office package that can replace MSoffice, the problems with my wifi card and the fact that google doesn't make most of his applications for linux made me change back to xp. I hope these things will change in the near future so I can use KDE 4!!
Ubuntu comes with OpenOffice. Most wifi problems are history, but its still good to check the forums. What Google applications ? You can get Picasa and Google Earth for Linux... and Google apps is web based...
Well, the thing is MSOffice is at least two years of development ahead from OpenOffice. Picasa is not native on linux. Gtalk, the bar from google desktop, are not even suported. :(
If you must use M$Office then run Windows in VirtualBox. Picasa is wrapped with WINE and, native or not, works seamlessly on any GNU/Linux desktop. The Google Talk sidebar is for Firefox ! Are you going to tell us you can't run Firefox on Linux as well now ? Furthermore, Google isn't going to make a standalone Google Talk client for Linux because the two most popular instant messaging clients, Pidgin and Kopete, already support Google Talk. You need to drink less of the M$ KoolAid.
I'm talkin about the side bar of google desktop. It's not something for firefox. And I'm not speking about the gtalk network. I know you can use that with any instant messeger, I like the Gtalk client. Plus the voice support doesn't work in any other client. I wish I could use Linux instead of XP. And hopefully in the future I will!!
You can have a side bar if you want one, you can use Linux instead of XP as well. If you were genuinely interested in using Linux you would already know this. But you don't really want to because you're scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for any and every lameass excuse you can find not to use Linux. Thats fine, use Windows, but stop wasting people's time talking crap about Linux when you haven't even tried to find out if the same features you want are available.
Yes I've tried!!! I used Ubuntu 7.10 for 6 month!!! What's wrong with you?? And I'm sure I will go back to Linux in the near future. My brother has KDE 4 beta, and I really like the concept. The only thing that really stops me from using linux is the office suit problem. I even used VirtualBox!!! But I thought it was stupid to have to OSs!!!! Anyway, I wont answer anymore!!
You couldn't have tried very hard at all because you know bugger all. Someone can Google for everything you've complained about, find open source solutions and features, and know more than you do in half an hour. And if you're going to let a single Windows application hold you back from using the OS you claim you really want to use, then pfft your own lameness is your problem.
What does it matter to you how many distributions there are ? And Ubuntu IS for 'normal' users. There's plenty of software. And if you need a Windows program you can't run on Linux, even with WINE, then use VirtualBox in seamless mode. Its awesome.
linux is shit for lossers

Interesting... GTK-recordmydesktop doesn't work. :( I'm going to switch to KDE 4.1 soon. When Kubuntu releases 8.10.

Serious, I dunno? Is it better than normal?
jospoortvliet 3 years ago
Well... it has to do with the codec and things like that... I wish you could remember.
Devourer09 3 years ago
Just used qt-RecordMyDesktop without much fiddling with the settings... Only lowered framerate & disabled sound, I think.

If Linux dropps to just one version (Ubuntu),
Then I will drop Windows and go for Linux.
I think I gonna try Ubuntu with KDE or Gnome on my crappy 6 years old computer!
I just hope that Wine is as good as they say it is!
For you guys who don't what Wine is..
Wine is a program that makes Windows programs run on a Linux system!
SweTego 3 years ago
If Linux dropps to just one version, then i will stop using linux. Linux!=Ubuntu. I love linux because it is as it is.
sorry for the incorrect englesh, i'm italian :D
psykopear 3 years ago 2
Well.. Atleast one version that is built for a normal user and not a guy that knows programing!
Because then it will support more software!
And that's the only BIG thing I don't like with Linux!
SweTego 3 years ago
Try Mandriva, is built for normal users too (and have a better KDE integration).
Sorry for my english.
wfox 3 years ago
I'll take a look at Mandriva then =)
But I need to know how to dual boot my PC before I go Linux!
I still want XP for the compability!
And BTW, You english is good! I have no problem understanding you =)
SweTego 3 years ago
If you have a reasonable computer then you don't even need a Windows partition anymore, just use VirtualBox.
