  • Brilliant! You should try at making a cliffhanger serial!

  • When I can to buy it? I bought Call of Cthulhu and its really amazing. I love HPLHS, u do a really good tribute to the Master Lovecraft!

  • @Rroice I could be horribly wrong but I do believe it's up for sale on Amazon. :) Can't wait to get a copy of my own!! ♥

  • Some of us are Freshmen at Miskatonic University..we will be waiting for the true, real history of the Necronomicon..May our wait not be in vain (it has already been partially revealed!)...

  • When is this out?!

  • I am so excited about this! It looks fantastic =)

  • Where can I watch the full movie? Or isn't it done yet?

  • Oh my gosh...I just found this and I love it. Good job. I am always so happy to find other lovers of the Master.

  • seafarer's weird devices

  • Great work.

  • a real man jump down to say hello to old friends.

  • I love how you guys can recreate the uber creepy atmosphere of the HPL stories. That is some serious film noir awesomeness you got going there. Can't wait for the finished article. Please do The Color Out of Time next pleeeeeeeeeeeease :)

  • 1:44

    Jump scare!

    No, it isn't...

    Yes it is!!!

  • It`s so well done!!!

  • nice

  • looks great a good HP movie for a change.

  • YXVN XOYX 4Y2C THUll UX4Y 2MAM4 W24R TENV XYVXXX

  • Oustanding!!! Personally, I love the voice used. As an avid fan of OTR, it fits perfectly with the time period this is based in. Very nice, will be buying this one for sure. I loved the version of CALL.

  • I love this teaser! I watch it over and over and over. The Dutch Angles and noirish lighting effects are perfect. Matt has a great look and of course Andrew and Sean's attention to detail is awe-inspiring! I am fully confident that the feature is gonna be brilliant.

  • My only critique of this trailer is the man's voice in the recording. Its too "Radio Announcer" and not enough Akeley.

I realize that the radio announcer voice helps create an air of anachronism, but I think the voice removes the suspension of disbelief.

Otherwise, a really great and creepy teaser to a movie that seems faithful to the source material. Congratulations.

  • @MrColorcrayons Thanks for your comment. The "Radio Announcer" voice you're referring to is not supposed to be Akeley. It's someone else.

  • @shoggothsean It's supposed to be an educated Bostonian accent, according to the Lovecraft story. I think that's just their interpretation of what an educated Bostonian accent is from 1931.

  • ISITDONEYET!ISITDONEYET!ISITDONEYET!!11

  • I think they use us.

  • Beautifully shot and lit....look forward very much to getting hold of this ^__^

  • I can't wait!!!!!

  • Wait a minute - who the heck would record the Necromonicon on a recorder, knowing that any single of its spells could annihilate the whole world?

  • @TheVoiceOfReason93 :

It's not. It's a recording of what was heard in the woods, a ceremony. I grew up in the more rural parts of Kentucky (i.e. 200 acres in the middle of nowhere.) and this story had me sleepless for months. Can't wait to see it.

  • Looks excellent. If only the Fungi would bring me to Yuggoth...

  • This trailer is as creepy and atmospheric as the short story it's based on. If this is going to be as good as the HPLHS's Call of Cthulhu, then we're in for a treat!

  • Good stuff. I like the theatrical feel; very in-time.

  • This looks fucking awesome

  • If this is anywhere near as good as "The Call of Cthulhu", I know we are going to be in for a treat. Just saw "The Call Of Cthulhu" at a local Con, and it was so good. Can't wait for this!!

  • I know what I'm showing at my annual Halloween party this year! (Assuming if comes out by then.)

  • for some reason i would think this would be like a bioshock movie

  • A new trailer is coming soon. The movie should be fully complete this fall.

  • This fall? that's wonderful

Do you think you might have this out on DVD and for sale maybe

at the New York Comic-Con this October?

  • @cha5

The movie should be done by then, but it's unlikely that it will be available for sale on DVD at that point. The new trailer should be online this week.

  • @shoggothsean Fall? 2011 or 2012? Any specific date?

  • Mmm at the end, when it goes to the "darkness" title animation, if you heard glass breaking.. Ah!

  • Excellent cinematography, I was blown away :D.

  • What's the status on the production as of 2010? Can we hope to see this completed soon?

  • Just saw "The Call of Cthulhu" (which is now on Instant View on Netflix!). This looks like it will be awesome as well. So, if you turn a good prophet, are you guys thinking of something more ambitious, like "Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath"?

  • @Ezreal I think you mean 'profit'.

But yeah, I'd really like to see a movie adaptation of 'The Rats in the Walls' or 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.'

  • Love how the cat is upset by a mere recording of the voice of a Mythos creature.

"And he shall put on the semblance of men" is a good tagline too.

  • So do we get to see it this October at ye H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon????

  • holy f-in moly i gotta get this the day it comes out....i heard that this sertain story was what they based necronomicon botd off of...and that thing in the window kinda reminds me of the sea creature from the necronomicon!!!tooo excited!!!!

  • This, this...this is gonna be so damn awesome.

I was impressed by their Call of Cthulhu movie, but this looks like it'll blow it out of the water.

Now all we need is a movie of The Rats in the Walls.

  • excellent

  • The sound quality in this trailer is amazing. Every little click and whir is distinctive and crisp. I hope the completed movie keeps it on the same level.

  • This really looks enticing.

  • azathoth

  • Guys, that is seriously all kinds of awesome. Beautiful noir-style lighting, fluid camera moves and one heck of a creepy atmosphere. Oh, and the cat's reaction is priceless. These handcrafted Lovecraft films of yours are gorgeous little works of art. Can't wait to see the full version!

  • I really enjoyed Call of Cthulhu movie. Even my wife enjoyed it. She's an artist but not into Lovecraft. I can't wait for the release of Whisperer. Good luck!

  • Unlike their Call of Cthulhu movie, this one promises to be genuinely creepy, to judge by the trailer.

  • cats hates mi-go.

  • They are the only ones to true get the hp lovecraft stories right,i have high hopes for this!!,other movie i thought almost Almost had it right was dagon but, they strayed abit too much for my liking

  • Looks grand. Greatly anticipated!

  • this looks great!!!, the call of cthulhu movie was one of the best lovecraft films ever, i cant wait to see what you guys did with this one!! are you guys gonna release replica props from this film too? the cthulhu idols are the coolest damn things in my collection!! keep up the good work! ia.

  • What, are you suggesting you'd like your own Mi-Go brain cylinder? Now really, do we seem like the kind of guys who would offer something like that...

  • that sounds awesome man, count me in!! my shrine of lovecraftian terror could use a mi-go brain cylinder indeed!!!

  • Man this looks cool. I cant wait.

  • just to say this looks GREAT!!!!!

any hint on how long does it take to be finished?

  • The movie is now about 95% shot. We need to finish the remaining shots, edit it, do special effects work, music, etc... We're estimating having it done around late spring of 2010.

  • Great just great, I'll be first in line for it.

  • Any updates on how it's going? :)

  • God I can't wait. Whisperer was the first Lovecraft story that really got me- how it was worded and the build-up was flawless. How Lovecraft described the emotionless voices from the cannister is something I'll never forget. I really hope this one's longer than CoC (though I loved that film) so the pacing is all there. Things look great already!

  • looks great I cannot wait

  • This looks good! I read the story, it's one of HP's better ones, and way scarier than anything King would write. I watched Cthulhu, with Tori Spelling in it (complete garbage). It had nothing to do with Cthulhu at all. I don't recommend it. This one looks way better, and has an old-fashioned feel, which I like. I definitely wouldn't mind putting this on my netflix when it's release. I adapted one of HPs stories into a script (The Music of Erich Zann) in case you want to read it, Shoggothsean

  • Has it been released yet ? Please someone who knows tell me :( I wants my precious !

  • We have just finished shooting on location in New England and are back in Los Angeles to finish shooting. Look for Whisperer sometime in 2010.

  • That's great news. I loved what you guys did with the Call of C'thulhu btw. The Whisperer in the Darkness is just about my favorite HPL story btw, I love the way Akeley goes from being paranoid and besieged to "oh it was all just a big misunderstanding, aliens are our friends". I look forwards to seeing what HPLHS have done with it. All the best, the trailer looks great.

  • Will you post something about it if we subscribe to this user once it's finished? :)

  • We will continue to update it as filming and post-production completes. Tomorrow we will be about 50% done with principal photography.

  • will it be free?

  • Um, no. We can't make the movie for free.

  • my big sister is an extra in this movie! yeyy!

  • Can't wait to see the final cut!

  • this is being filmed outside my dorm right now!

  • Same here!

  • This is freaking terrifying....

  • WRONG!!!!!! Being shot this week! And released early next year! get to the HPLHS site and see blog!

  • The Whisperer in Darkness is one of my favourite lovecraft stories just love the terrifying end ahh genious.

  • I've read everything Lovecraft ever wrote and everytime I see this trailer it makes me want to read it all again.

  • I loved The Call of Cthulhu, and have high expectations for this, Whisperer being one of my favourite Lovecraft stories and all.

    Iä and g'luck, guys!

  • Oh my god. This is going to be awesome

  • This trailer still blows my mind, it's nothing short of amazing. It gives me goosebumps every single time! I'm so happy that things are finally starting to move along with the production, I can't wait to see it whenever it's finished. You guys rock!

  • when???

  • I just got back from the last trip to New England before filming. We'll be shooting there in September. We estimate having the movie done late spring of 2010.

  • Ohhh folks, this is great, I cannot wait, when is it coming out?? I need it right now!! Haha, congratulations to all the people that have been working so hard to make such a good film(don't ask, I know it will be great, even though I've not seen it yet haha)

  • Check out the HPLHS website. They give you updates on the movie.

So far it seems like they are just starting to cast it. They are still going through a lot of legal business.

  • they do say it should be out in early 2010

  • I absolutely love the story, and I love the fact that HPLHS is making it into a film.

The only thing I didn't notice were his dogs who had the habit of barking like mad when the Mi-Go approached the house.

  • That's because it's Wilmarth here ( Matt Foyer ) and it's not at the Akely farm

  • Man, I just was watching this trailer and there was a tremor in the city were I live, well, not too strange since there is considerable seismic activity here, but you can imagine the effect between it and that Mi-go at the window.

  • Reread the fantastic original just lately: hence the browse on YouTube. Have to say this looks great: faithful to both style and spirit of the story.

The cat's reaction is an inspired touch.

  • Holy shit that was creepy. What you dont see does make it scarier..Cinema has become addicted to gasoline explosions and CGG. In most horry mysteries the fear is over once you see the monster. The disbelief is lifted.

  • Ooooh, a talkie!

Love the directions you guys are taking this, where can I get them?

  • That's how I felt yesterday.

  • OMG, that creeped me OUT. >_>

  • Looks fantastic.

  • can't wait!!!

  • Looks amazing!

  • It's generally good, but the camera moves too much (practically all the time). I think you should keep some of the shots still.

  • For how long are there gonna be whispers about this film? I want to see it !!! Stop torturing Lovecraft fans!

  • Looks like it has excellent potential. Beautifully shot.

  • Can´t wait anymore...

  • Loved the fungus from Yuggoth's voice.

  • HPLHS has yet to dissapoint me =)! i avidly await this movi!

  • This... looks greeat. It fits the mood of Lovecraft well. And, the fact that it mimics the old black and white films adds to its charm.

I'll be looking forward to this.

  • I really want to see this movie soon!

  • Was the feature ever made, or did they just do the teaser to see if they could raise funds? I'd love to see the completed film.

  • While the teaser was shot in advance of actual production, the film is in production now.

  • this looks FANTAFUCKINGTASTIC!!

the HPLHS production of "the call of cthulhu" is already among my all time favorite movies EVER, I have sky high hopes for this one as well!

just read the story again for the umpteenth time, it still creeps me out!

  • Watching this teaser every month is giving me a severe case of filmic blue balls. When is this film due out?! I need relief!!

  • is that clicking noise just noise from the machine, or is the creature making that noise?

  • It is just noise from the machine. That's one good piece of old equipment there.

  • Can't wait to see this film! Please say its comming out soon!

  • Anybody know if this film has been released yet. Seems as though its been on the production line for quit some time. Could just be I am itching to see it. A good horror movie in today's age is rare.

  • This is wonderful! Just like Lovecraft ought to be done

  • Cool, now i really want to read it.

    Good job

  • Is this for real??

Man, I'd love to see finally a film adaptation worthy of H.P. Lovecraft's ideas...

  • Then watch their first one, The Call of Cthulhu. It was wonderful

  • I didn't imagine the whispers to be so freaky...

  • this is the way how a story written by the great h.p. lovecraft has to be filmed.

if the final movie is just close to this trailer it will be a piece of film a lovecraft fan has ever dreamt of.

    respect

  • dude that was freaky as hell.

  • That's the goal. No need to show gore, etc; the mind can conjure worse things.

  • Great job!!!

I love the way you lit it! And the logo in the beginning.

  • Sooo was this ever made?

  • A message on the HPLHS website says they don't know when they're gong to be done with it.

  • Wow this looks awesome!

  • And there is even this new "all talking"-feature!

  • This is my favorite HPL story, I am so glad it is being given the HPLHS treatment. I will definitely be buying this one too. When is it available ? I wants it ! I wants my precious !

  • I want to see this film now.

  • Yes, I agree with you Darkinsigniosis, this gonna be great.

  • This cinemantography is absolutely top notch, particularly the pan up the dictation machine and the eeire angle of the window. This is going to be fantastic, even better than the Call of Cthulhu.

  • this was such a great story, it should be a good movie H.P. Lovecraft Forever!

  • Can't wait to see this film!

  • wooouurr!!!

  • my favorite :)

  • exelent, I hope to see it soon

  • Great HPLhs :) we are waiting :)

  • is there a DVD release date for this yet?

  • come to dvd already, plz. the wait is killing me.

  • wow i love lovecraft works

  • HP lovecraft deserves black and white treatment. That what can't be seen in the scariest of all! That was lives inside is is scariest of all!

Horror these days..ugh.. oh geesh another masked killer. Really...

I rather see something more..disturbingly Lovecraftian!

  • What do you mean by "masked killer"?

Have you read this story because it has nothing to do with a masked killer; it is about a guy who is contacted by someone who is being pursued by and makes contact with aliens. If you pause during the lightning it looks like the shadow has a claw.

  • with masked killer I mean the usually grind horror crap. I mean it is so simple that way. Geeh who is the killer..the one with the mask?

Nah this stuff is just better.

  • I know what you mean. But in today's culture, what sells? Sex and violence. Cinemagoers don't want (Or aren't expected to want) to sit through something where terror is created slowly through mood.

  • I know but that is in all media, easy to dine pop hits etc. It makes you well like the more arty things after a while.

And yes HP lovecraft stuf fis darn scary! Hey ever seen The Shining? With Jack Nicholson..aaah suspense! Maybe not the best piece of cinema but oooh!

  • i though the shining was orginally wrinten by stephen king, or r u talking about another shining

  • That is stephen king yes..great book. Fear..fear for what..fear for what lies inside!

  • True, cinemagoers don't want the intricacies of this kind of horror; that I believe, is why it will always be lumbered under cult horror I think.

  • Looks as brilliant as the first production. These guys are true talents.

  • God I can't wait. This is the one story of Lovecraft's that creeped me out. How he described the emotionless robotic voice really got me. I hope they nailed it here.

  • I hope so too, I would've made it similar to the voice used by the aliens in "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers" but that's just me. :-X

  • I'd love to see some lovecraft done with some style, this trailer was pretty cool but expanding will be hard. Hollywood could do it but who would direct?

  • Jesus, I hope Hollywood doesn't do it; they would ruin it like the are ruining Star Trek with their new adaptation! This is the best way for a Lovecraft film to be made: low budget, but with real talent involved in the presentation and cinematography, something so often lost when money is thrown at a film.

  • This looks really awesome. I would love to see this studio do Herbert West: Reanimator. I liked the original from the 80's, but I would love to see a movie that's more faithful to the story.

  • I'm not so sure. I've read Re-animator and to be honest the story was pretty bland at times. Even Lovecraft himself considers it to be one of his weakest works, so doing a faithful adaption might not be such a great idea. Plus, the 80s movie had some really good moments in it too, and some great lines of dialogue as well.

  • owowow i cant wait went dis coms out,i realr loft call of cthullu and i hope they wel do mountains of madness too.

ps:keep a look out for my 3d model of Yog-Sothoth comin at youtube the eind of the week

  • When will it start?

  • Great... creepy, tingly!

The perfect trailer for an adventure...^^ And the Horror waits next door.

  • OMG! OMG! OMG! :D

    I can't wait! :)))

  • This looks nice!

  • Sean, this looks and sounds fantastic. Who did/does your sound design? The voice is perfect. Utterly creepy. Bravo.

  • If this movie isn't released yet, I'm gonna summon Shub Niggurath: Maybe THAT'LL teach you to make awesome teasers and not make the connecting movie.

  • So, this must be a "talkie," I guess, unlike the silent "Call of Cthulhu."

  • That was well done, but, as a vintage audio buff, the sound from the cylinder was *way* too clear and clean sounding. You wouldn't get that kind of sound from an electrically recorded 78 rpm record disk from the 1920's, let alone one of those old dictaphone cylinders!

  • Alright, don't be an artard. The Call of Cthulhu wasn't completely vintage either, it's just something that can't be achieved without a very large budget.

Nitpicking something so minute and stupid is just lame.

  • Don't be such a complete douche bag in response. I did pay my compliments to the HPLHS for their work in this and "Cthulhu," and, yes, I do realize that they've done wonders in both cases with rather limited production budgets. I liked their "Call of Cthulhu" overall.

  • However, to my mind, if you're going to set something in a particular historical setting, then you should do your research, within reason and within your own time limitations. You wouldn't put a pushbutton plastic phone from the 1960's on one of the tables in Akeley's farmhouse, nor have Professor Wilmarth wearing a Nehru jacket. As someone who's acquainted with cylinder recordings, I just pointed out something that bothered me while I was watching the trailer, that was inauthentic to my ears.

  • You could argue that they've taken artistic license to make the voices more audible to the audience, which is entirely their right also. But, calling me an "artard" because I pointed this out isn't an adequate response.
