I had some problems when I used PW's with the 430ex flash. But since I switched to the exii, its smooth sailing :) I considered the Rpoppers, but I dont want to put a flash or st-e2 controller. I shoot a lot mid-day sometimes f1.8 up to 1/8000 on a 50mm 1.4. But mostly 2.8 on a 100mm, I rarely go up to f3.5.

can you do the same functions with this PX as the PW tt5 and tt1? I mean, can you the hpersinc and all the otehr funtions? I have the TT5 and tt1 and the testing I did was 100% all the time at about 300 meters, I actually stopped testing at 300 meters... I was using the sock tho.

So there has to be a problem with the pocket wizard and not the flash. Pocket wizard has to know this and the new ttl technology they put in it has something to do with it. Thanks for the video.

We are commercial photographers based in Calgary, Alberta. In the studio we use Pocket Wizard all the time. Outside however or even in a large enclosed area such as an airport the MiniTT and Fkex5 simply don't work. The max ETTL range with our 780's is no more than than 10 - 20ft In fact, we get better line of sight coverage using IR. Also. The TT1 uses a battery that is very hard to replace. Even our camera store don't stock them!

Well, you dismiss one a key factor here when firing multiple shots in relatively rapid succession: the abominably slow recycle times of the 580EX II (any portable flash, I believe). And the poor battery life of penlights. I'd suggest a DCB or Quantum (Turbo) battery instead.

i'd like to know why he didnt specifically explain why radiopoppers only work with a flash on camera...why would i want that?? if i have a flash on camera, it'll work on its own in master-slave.

I hate the idea of having on camera flash if you will not even use as a light source. If Radio Poppers could work without a flash on camera I might consider it, the way it works right now..NO WAY!

@rtphotography You don't have to use a camera flash with radio popper. You just need an IR transmitter. He is using the camera attached flash as a transmitter. If you get the Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter you can attach the RadioPopper to the ST-E2, then you can use your other 580EX II as another flash on the subject away from your camera. You can usually find the ST-E2 slighty used on ebay for around $170 (instead of buying a $400+ 580EX II)

@rtphotography Exactly what louishcom said. You can use an ST-E2. If you're already spending so much on triggers like this. $200 to spend for an ST-E2 is nothing in the name of reliability.
