Yeah the 6.0L Was nothing compared to the 7.3L, sure it produced more Hp, and Torque but it had a lot more problems. The 5.4 Triton is a great engine though.

Actually the new Cummins aren't really impressive. They have 50 less Hp, and 150 less Lb.-Ft than the other engines and it gets much worse fuel economy. Plus they don't have any better reliability rating than the other two.

Good story on BBC World News last week about the durability of the Toyota Land Cruiser and how Toyota has conquered the developing world with these vehicles. Interesting contrast to the bad press the company is receiving here for their passenger car safety. Unfortunately, Chevrolet, Ford and Chrysler trucks are not really competitive globally. Chevrolet does a bit better with its trucks in India but those aren't really the same Chevy trucks that are made here. What a world.

I would have to agree that the demands on trucks vary from country to country but I'd have to say that conditions in much of the developing world, and undeveloped world are certainly as challenging as any found in North America. It's in these areas that vehicles from Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes, Volvo, Scania have proven that they can "hold up." Nissan and Toyota's problems stemmed from building an American style pick up, not mastering the differences & ignoring the customer loyalty factor.

In 1992, my dad bought me a 1974 F-100 as a graduation present. it had sat in some guys backyard without being ran for 10 years. we replaced the battery, aired up the tires, & drove it home where we changed the oil & washed it. while washing it I found the truck I thought was black, was actually brown & yellow. the 460 V-8 was a real monster of an engine.

Not to disparage the F-150 but it is clear that if you add up the sales of the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado, GM sells more pick up trucks than the F-150. i have a 1987 f250 302ci 5.0 c6 trans 4in suspension lift the truck is in excellent shape no rust it was redone by previous owner and the only thing i had to do with it was replace the trans i owned a chevy surburban but since i got a ford i like it alot better Thanks ford motor company for producing a good truck ( i also offraod the truck and i havent broke a thing yet unlike my chevy every weekend i was doing somthing else to fix the stupid thing)

hey the classics rule! :) the thing i noticed with these commercials, is the newer the truck year, the less off roading they show it doing, and they don't seem to really push them like they used too, i mean look at how they drive them in the late 60s and 70s commercials, they drive them pretty hard, Ford is still the king of the trucks, but i think the 70s F-series are pure tanks, the Super Duty's are tough, but nothing beats 70s muscle! :) but then i am biased! all Ford trucks rule! :)

I see your point about classic vs modern I like the old method of V8 4 barrel carburetors for horsepower, and they sure as hell sound better then newer trucks, I think they look really good.

But newer trucks tow a lot more, they are safer, and much better gas milage. Besides the new F150 is pretty badass.

On your comments about the ads: what about that Ford ad with Mike Rowe. They drive that truck though some S-turns backwards wide open. Besides look around on YouTube and you will see some.

ya Classics rule, modern trucks are way to car like for me, the new Fords are fine with me, but there too car like still, i like my truck, i can step on the bumper to get too the motor and actually work on it, instead of having to take it to a dealer to get it fixed, nothing much to my truck, all it needs is fuel and spark, and it runs, no sensors or computers to give me headaches, basically '79 is the last real truck from Ford, the 80s are fine, but by the 90s and 2000's they got real car like

i agree, the modern trucks have nice features, but heated seats where never a big deal to me, some may like them, GPS.. i could always install a window mounted one, but generally i know where i am going, and i don't go on trips to places too far away, i really know my area well (Southern Ontario, and Eastern Michigan) as long as it runs and sounds good, its all good with me, besides i got a New Pioneer radio deck that even has rear USB input! tunes are a must, simple and classic! is fine with me
