Halo pushed the envelope with bipedal forms. But can we just face it--we have a bit of a superiority complex. We think bipedal is best (except for dragons or dinosaurs, which are also almost always the end result in sci fi movies, next to humanoids), and humanoid is even better.

And when people are presented with something different, especially such a drastic change in evolutionary theory, most of us don't like it. Halo is a video game and gamers are a different breed of mind set. That's not to say you aren't correct. Humans are very egotistical. Of course, with new generations comes a more open mind. =)
