Channel 0 - New Dimension of Color Promo 1974

Ch 0 were actually experimenting with transmitting colour in the late 60's. Reg Ansett, (owner of the station) very much enjoyed the program "Bonanza" & (dodgy!) arrangements were made to transmit this program in colour as a test. As there were no PAL colour TV's in Australia then, a 'doctored' NTSC colour TV from the US was used to receive the signal. This occurred for months until the PMG (ACMA from those days) noticed an extra unusual signal (colour burst) on Ch0's signal.. The game was up!

@SuperSpaceGirlTV In Australia, yes, from the early 1960s the TV dial went from 0 up to 11 (and there was also Channel "5A" between Channels 5 and 6.) But Channel 0 in Melbourne (which this promo relates to) moved up the dial to Channel 10 in 1980.

To bad they couldn't spell colour. But then again, it was channel 0.

@bigfaluda All commercial channels adopted the American spelling of "color", it wasn't just Channel 0. But ABC defied the trend and used the proper spelling "colour"

Hugo Montenegro's "MacArthur Park" was used as the news theme for WJW-TV - WJKW-TV in Cleveland, Ohio for many, many years. They called their news program City Camera News. I like the Channel 0 version of this music better.
