  • Ohh, I have the same mother board and cpu. I'm getting a gtx570 soon. I'm too scared, because I don't know if I connect the molex/pcie cables to my PSU (1000w, that doesnt have a pcie cable or an open molex connector)

  • @4PsychoNitro how the hell is it possible that a 1000 watt psu does not have pci-e connectors? o_O

Those kind of psu's should have more than plenty.

  • @thierryvt Maybe it does have one, but it's probably under something, I'm going to check right now.

  • @4PsychoNitro it should have more than 1. a psu like that should have at least 4 pci-e 6/8-pin combo connectors.

Heck my 850 watt psu has 4 so yours should have more or at least as many.

  • @thierryvt Well I just checked and I think it doesn't even have 1. There's just a bunch of SATA and some black molex looking connectors. I was trying to take the PSU out, but it was pretty hard to even move the thing.

  • @4PsychoNitro then you have one weird psu. btw what do you mean with molex lookalikes?

    playtool () com/pages/psuconnectors/pcie6plus2.jpg mean these?

  • @thierryvt Oh umm, lemme try to find what they look like, I really don't know what I'm saying haha.

  • @thierryvt They look like this, but they are black.

    playtool () com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

  • @4PsychoNitro those are definately molex connectors. how old is your psu? Any psu that is no older then 4 yrs should have pci-e connectors.

  • @thierryvt I just bought my computer build about a year ago, Thanksgivin '09. Oh, and do I really have to plug in the GPU if I'm only going to use one GPU?

  • @thierryvt Oh and how did you OC your processor? I have the same, i7 920 but its at 2.67GHz and I want it to atleast 3.33GHz.

  • @4PsychoNitro it's impossible that your psu does not have any pci-e connectors. is it a modular psu? Or could you give me the brand and type of the psu?

Overclocking is not something you should do if you don't know anything about it. It's not as simple as just jacking up the multipliers or base clocks, at least if you plan on doing a somewhat decent oc.

  • @thierryvt lol ok, I won't oc it. I bought a custom made pc from this site, scroll down to the PSU's and find 1000 Watts Extreme Gaming Series. wwwOibuypowerOcom/Store/Gamer_Paladin_F770

  • @thierryvt I really want a new PSU, but this one has some molex connectors, which I thought was ok. Now I'm really thinking of getting or wanting ( I'm broke ) a PSU from Corsair. Should I plan on getting a 950W or a 1000W? --I'm going to check my PSU right now and see if it has enough molex connectors for even 2 gpu's

  • @thierryvt Sorry if I'm spamming... It's non modular. And I'm thinking of either getting a Corsair 1000w(modular) or a 950w(non-modular). I think I'm going to have to get a 950w, because the 1000w looks too big. Damn, sorry, I'm going to measure my psu right now and see if I have room for the 1000w.

  • @thierryvt oh, found 4 PCIe connectors... Sorry for being a dumdum and not fully searching for em. Thanks for all the help though.

  • @hungiboy15 dx is hardware related, not software. It's impossible to do any dx11 only feature on a dx10.1 card.

  • can this work with laptops?

  • @DisneysBonkers028 not sure what you mean with that, this is a desktop card and will never fit inside a laptop and even if it did, it would probably overheat the moment you touch the powerbutton (if the psu doesn't blow up that is)...

  • How does this cpu cooler performs with your cpu and clocks? I want the same setup, but i'm not that sure about the cooler... Can you give me the idle temps and max load temps plz?

  • @climb2freak roomtemperature: 22°C

    idle temps:

    cpu: 32°C

    cores: ~40°C

    full load:

    cpu: 68°C

    cores: ~75°C

  • @thierryvt wtf, not a bad comment to you, but that's quite disappointing :'( and that for a 60 € cooler... Is the 75C while gaming or using stress-software? (like prime95 or intelburntest) What cooler makes it cooler then? The coolermaster V10 then? (cauze it's 100€...) Or will the corsair H50 liquid cooler be better then your cooler? Anyways, thanks for the fast response!

  • @climb2freak the v8 is more for the looks than for the performance and i knew that when i bought it. those temps were measured while running the intelburntest. and for good cooling performance you might wanna consider getting some real watercooling or a full copper heatsink with a high rpm fan.

  • haha lol mine dint come w/ hawx but i had teh regular edition how bout u?

  • @danthaman7777 i think i have the standard edition as well but it came with hawx ^^

  • you have funny accent but nice review though!! :D

  • Dx11 Gpu's are useless , way too early for really good dx11 games

  • @BukkiGoezF4m3 but you're futureproof for a while right?

  • i have a 4890 vaporx oc, but switching to nvidia soon. performance is great. but the openGL support sucks :/

  • @zahndy getting a gtx 480? xD

have fun with an overheating, powereating peace of hardware.

  • @thierryvt watercooled

  • @zahndy i think the majority of the gamers isn't going to get a watercooling set just for a graphics card. way too expensive for the benefit it gives. i'd much rather use that money to get myself 2 HD 5870's then 1 gtx480 with watercooling but that's just my opinion.

  • i would say get a pair of 5770's there awesome if got 1 for now and i max out anything @ 1600x1200 just not aa theres no need so really

your going to get 4890s with dx11 the 4890s are only like 13% faster but thats because of drivers

  • i know they are but why would i? i'm perfectly happy with the performance delivered by the 4890's. besides the 4890's support the main feature of dx11: tesselation.

  • your 4890s have retarded coolers

  • i wouldn't say retarded but i'm not impressed by the quality. one cooler is already starting to wear out (doing about 500-800 rpm less at the same fan percentage) so i was thinking of getting a retail cooler, something like a twin turbo pro.

  • wow man how much have you dropped into your system

  • if you mean how much it costed me then i'd say about €1300-€1400

  • lol , its like looking at my pc but mine has only 1 HD4890 black edition, already have it for a few months im still very happy with it; I guess you must be too :D !

  • offcourse i'm still happy, they deliver crazy performance.

  • Im running i7 920 as well but I only have 750Watt psu and i would like to upgrade to 5870 soon later get the other one. Do you know what could be the power draw for the whole system? Or any site that has power calculator with the database on full load consumption of any combined rigs please?

  • 500 watt is my guess but try to google for psu calculator and you should find some :)

  • @donwinkey Antec's website has a psu meter, put in all your specs and it lets you choose either idle or full load for the power consumption, if you have a corsair tx750w psu then you will be fine with the i7 920 and two 5870's, minimum requirements for 5870 crossfired is a 600w psu, my friend has the tx750 and has his phenom 9950 oc'd with two hdd in raid 0, and two gtx 275 oc edition in sli and has had no problems.

  • Awesome. Thats priceless information and I will double check with the site you recommend me to see. Thank You for the help. Cheers

  • I have 2 4890's but I only have a 700W PSU. My computer shuts off in games, is it because my PSU isnt enough?

  • it's possible but it could also mean that your pc gets to warm.

  • @crissglitch666

HD4890 in CF mode need min over 800watt 80plus PSU

  • hey guys i need help! im just a noobie in xfire..

i have hd4870 and i want to crossfire it with 4890.. will my PSU be able to handle it? here are my specs.

    Gigabyte Odin Pro 800watt PSU

    AMD Phenom II X4 940 3Ghz

    ATI Radeon HD4870 1gig GDDR5

    Kingston 8gig ddr2 800 memory

Western Digital 1TB Caviar Green HDD

    Aerocool V12xt

    8 120mm Coolermaster Sickleflow fans.

PLEASE HELP ME. I NEED SOME ADVISE

  • should work.

  • how does the v8 cooler work? I plan on buying this for my new pc

  • 40°C idle, 60°C on full load (3.55 GHz with 1.28v)

  • @thierryvt same for me awesome cooler

  • I notice the price of v8 is equivalent to most water cooler system. I have never used any other cooler other than stock heatsink/fan. What do you guys think for taking care of heat: WATER COOLER or V8?

  • v8 and watercooling same price range? o_O give me a link, i wanna c that.

  • $10 differences, give or take. So the V8 is about $64 on amazon (higher on other sites). Corsair H50 is about 70-80$, check newegg. Referring to my original question, would you rather use water cooling or heatsink/fan? Seems like you rather go with water system. lol

  • lol the v8 is expensive in the US, i payed €40 for it. i don't think of the H50 as being true watercooling. it performs in the same range as the mid to high end aircoolers. if you want a real improvement go with a custom loop.

  • wow 60°C isn't that a little too hot? :-O

  • not really, intel says that max adviced core temp is around 68°C so i'm still kinda in that range ^^

  • Can i run these in CF with 750w powers.? (chieftec)

  • an A-brand 600 watt is the minimum requirement so i guess it should work.

  • Comment removed

  • strange, normally all new cards come with a crossfire bridge.

  • did you check that the box wasnt tampered with before buying it?>_>....someone in store might have alredy opened it ;P

  • faster than gtx295!

  • DOMINATE POWER !

  • very nice mate :-)

  • Hey man, you should try to hit at least 3.8GHz with your i7.

  • i can reach 4.2 no problem, but my cores were 95°C on stresstest and i find that a little bit over the top. i can put it on 3.8 but i see no reason to do so.

  • those 3 things are component cables

  • Mine sucks!!! Can someone please help me im getting 18fps avg on farcry 2 my specs.....

    E7300 Dual Core @2.66Ghz

    4gb ddr2 ram

    xfx HD4890 1GB

    550watt PSU

    Please Help!!!!!!

  • Hey dude, what resolution you running the game? and also i would check on ur component temps aswell, they might be too hot.

  • 1680x1050 and the card right now is at 49 degreed c

  • hmmm try re installing the drivers dude

  • you cpu bottelneck you 4890 and try reinstall the drivers

  • Got a crappy laptop which plays farcry very nice.. are you sure you have installed the latest drivers and so.. you could check temprature aswell

  • @ZR3FR1K - Farcry 2 is a game that favors nvidia cards moreso than ATI. It should do way better on a different game...but even so...you shouldnt be getting 18 fps, thats pretty odd.

  • pentium dual core is not for gaming actually...

btw ur HD4890 bottlenecking ur CPU

  • hush

  • idk anything about ati cards but im gonna ask if u have the right drivers? ... lol thats all i can think of

  • do u use 2 crossfire bridges with crossfire or just 1?

  • Im gonna get a AXP 850w power supply. can it run crossifre?

  • it should be able to run it as long as it's a descent brand.

  • hey can 700 watts psu support 2 4890s?

  • as long as you have 4 6-pin connectors, yes.

  • wow all this in a mid tower lol, i tried to put my setup in my old smilodon case and wow the airflow was crazy bad. these fit wonderfully in the 1200

  • they fit ^^

and they're not overheating or getting to warm, so it's good for me.

  • thats all that matters. XFX released a new cooler syle, not bad looking and not reference. check newegg for pictures.

  • Just put my second 4890 in, had to put the fan on the back of the HDD cage on the bottom because it just wouldn't fit at all with the twinfan asus infront of it.. sigh such a pain, kinda dissapointed at the lack of space in the 902.

  • that's true i'm afraid :(

i can't put that hdd fan in there either because of the lack of space.

and a 5870 is even longer so i'm afraid it won't fit in if i would buy.

  • well i put the fan on the cage at the bottom and it's cooling my old 4890, i got an asus twin fan as my other one and it's actually quite a bit bigger than the stock cooler. Runs really cool though, quiet too, no stock cooler vaccum cleaner BS.

  • i'm happy with the stock cooler, and i always have a headset on so i never hear the fans + my cards never go over 70°C

  • Mine stay at about 65 for the stock and 62 for the twin fan, tbh it wasn't really worth the second 4890 atm, everything ran pretty great with one before. Looks cool though.

  • when you have 2 cards, it shares the load~ so if you have 1 card = 100%~

if have 2 = 50% each~ so it runs more efficiently~ you can have only 1 card~ but it will run at 100% load and will be hot~ :D

  • I've not purchased my case yet for this reason, does anyone know where I can get a list of cases that support the full size of a 5870?? Might get 2x 5850's yet but would like the space incase I change m mind

  • all full tower cases should be able to fit a 5870 in. my case would be close. (antec 900 V2)

  • cheers, just finding well built full tower cases under £100 lol

  • a haf 922 will fit it. and its not to expensive

  • Awesome setup man!! I also have the cooler master V8 cpu cooler which works awesome. I also have the same exact xfx 4890, but I only have one right now. When I get the second one, do I have to run the two crossfire bridges like you? Running two wont hurt anything if it's not necessary right?

  • it wont hurt to do so and some say that you have to use both of them. not sure about that tho

  • Sweet!!! Do you see a big difference in performance running two in crossfire as opposed to running just one?

  • i do :)

in some games it doubles my framerate. but for most games even one overkills it.

  • opps I see :) an i7. my bad

  • What CPU do you have?

  • hey i have a question if you only have 4 pin molex connections do you have to hook up 4 molexs for one card or just 2

  • you will need 4

2 molexes go in 1 molex to 6 pin converter

and you need 2 6-pins to power this card.

  • k kool ty

  • Yes, basically to do it that way you will need 4 molex's for one card, but I strongly recommend NOT doing that, At the very least, it just won't run the card cause it's under-powered... and at the very worst it could fry your power supply and possibly other components in your system. systemJust upgrade your power supply to something that is SLI-Crossfire certified.

  • WHAT?!? i have a 750 wt psu and im going to only run 1

  • Good for you!! Whatever makes you happy. What's that have to do with what i was talking about with the molex connectors??? I have an Antec True Power 750 Watt that's Crossfire ready, and can run two without breaking a sweat!!

  • ok now i know wtf your talking about so a 6 pin better?

  • Well, I was just saying that ANY 4 pin to 6 pin adapters are BAD!! It's just better to have a really good power supply.

  • true, molexes are not designed to power a heavy duty graphics card.

it's more for a temporary solution untill you get a new psu in that has the connectors for it.

  • can my corsair xt750w runs without problem two 4890 in crossfire?? cpu= 955, 8gb ram ddr3, mobo ecs blackseries, 2 HDD 7200rpm, and xfx 4890. but i wanna another 4890

  • 600 watt is the minimum. so i think you should be fine with 750

  • id get a bigger power supply with you going for crossfire a 800-1000 watt should be good

  • if its corsair it'll work i got a 850 for upgrading in the future, it runs my 2 4890's np

  • okk tks man

  • yeah so far i have one 4890 but im thinking of getting another

  • Nice sys :)

    I have I7-920 @ 4Ghz @ Noctua

    2 Hd 4890 Oc

    Asus p6t Deluxe V2

    ......

  • please help me, i can put 4 of this video cards in crossfire

  • you can if you have 4 pci-e x16 slots and 8 6-pin powerconnectors.

  • what is your PSU?

  • a corsair 850 watt.

  • please tell me can 750w can run that crossfire

  • 600 watt is the minimum required for crossfiring 2 4890's.

  • tell me what is the taxes that i will pay it if i buy pc with 1690$ from amazon to Egypt??

  • dunno, you should send a mail to amazon for that.

  • how give me the link

  • lol search the site. french isn't really my best language.

  • french???? who asked you about french??

  • when i typed in amazon (dot) com it would bring me to a french site but nm that.

but i think you can read and you should check the help button :)

  • i'm not sure if it would make a big difference. what my guess is that 2 4850's equal a 4890 (probably the 2 4850's will slightly outperform a 4890).

    try measuring your 2 4850's against a 295 and you'll know what the difference is with 2 4890's :)

  • Nice .. my brother built a PC with a Amd Phenom II X4 965 OC @ 4.1 GHz w/ 8GB DDR3 and a HD4850, works great how much of a difference would you see between the 4850 and the 4890 (Both crossfire?)

  • is that P6T Deluxe better than Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R?

  • depends on what you're looking for.

the p6t has dual ehternet ports, gigabyte only 1. the p6t has 1 combo ps2 slot, the gigabyte has 2 ps2 slots. the p6t has 3 pci-e x16 slots, the gigabyte has 2. the p6t has 6 sata connectors, the gigabyte has 8....

  • I need a problem free motherboard which will never give me pain. not necessarily best performer but problem free.

  • for what cpu? what's the budget?

  • i ordered my pair already!Should come next week.

  • hey i got 2 questions , does 2 4890's perform bether than 1 gtx 295

and is 750 watt powesupply enough ( got the same system as you)

    greetings

  • not better, they do as good as a 295 (sometimes they do better then a 295 but in other games the 295 will be better).

but then again 2 4890's are alot cheaper then a 295.

and i believe that 600 watts was the minimum recommended by ati.

  • yeah they sayed crossfireX 600 watt you need min for it i readed that just a moment ago ^^.

    well i guess i go for 2 4890's then i guess :)

    greetings

  • cool, make a vid of it when you get em.

  • I got a XFX 4890 XXX today i'm just wondering where the power leds are for (above the power connectors) can someone help me? thanks!

  • what power leds? there are 2 6-pin power connectors and the little plug you c is for the fan.

  • Not with the XXX version (and the black edition) there you got 1 6-pin connector and one 8 pin.

  • then what was your question?

  • im doin tha next week getting 2 cant wait :D

  • I like the black/dark gray interior of your case, it looks CLEAN :D

  • thanks :)

  • Thats neat dude

  • awesome video! I'm thinking about getting the same xfx 4890 (only1 though), and I was wondering about the noise from the fan and the temperatures. I can bare loud air blowing, but I hate the whining. does this card have the "whine" when you crank the fan speed up?

also, how are the load temps?

    thanks :)

  • i leave the fans on temperature controlled modus and they never go over 70°C (and that's after 3-4 hours of non stop far cry 2, crysis or prototype), on idle the temperature is around 50°C.

i bareley hear the cards on idle, under full load you hear the fan but it's not so loud that it disturbs me. and i don't know what you mean by whining but this card is fairly quiet and only gets too loud (for me) when you go over 70%.

  • alright thanks it sounds good :)

I did find a video on youtube of somebody cranking it up to 100, and the way it sounded, I don't think I would even mind

  • Try speeding the fan up to 100%. And you will see what we mean by loud. I mean REALLY FREAKING LOUD. So loud it gets annoying after 10 seconds.

  • yeah that's loud but catalyst will never do that unless the cards overheats ofcourse

  • lol..yeah this really kick ass...nice job dude..i'm so jealous with you :(

  • yup just checked. You need both bridges for 2 way crossfire. If it's 3 way or quad, then one bridge between each card

  • hey bro sure you only need one xfire connector and not both? I read on the ATI guide that you'll need both

  • it's possible... i thought that you only needed 1. you get 2 tho (1 with each card) so you can try with both 1 and 2 bridges connected :)

  • why do u have both bridges?

  • it looks cooler :)

  • Very sexy cards. I have the XXX versions and they are very nice too. Which versions do you have?

  • i have the normal version but oc'ed it to 950 Mhz on the core and 975 MHz on the memory

  • I can't really overclock my cards over 1GHz for the clock speed. I just got them up and running because the new power supply didn't work right. It's fine now, but I like to "burn in" my parts before I start punishing them.

  • i can but i don't. got them at 900 MHz atm and that's fine for me. (i did got them stable at 1050 MHz but they got to warm for me to feel comfortable)

  • Even though the fans are suppose to expel the heat out of the back of the case, some of the heat gets inside of the case. I now have a 10F raise in internal temperature from both cards. It's amazing how hot these cards get. I damn near burn my hands feeling the heat from the exhaust ports on the cards.

  • my system went up with 5°C so nothing to bad and yes the air coming out the back is warm but that's normal.

  • i f was him buy this one..MSI R4890-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express x16 (2.0v) ...already overclocked oc check the specs?

  • meh waste of money imo. you can oc them just as well yourself

  • The new vapor x has the best overclocking ability.

  • i got vapor x thinking of getting a second one any idea what psu i would need? they use less power n shit so i hope my 650w will handle them both?

  • i think 600 watt was the minimum for 2 4890's.

  • nice!! now i don't have to worry about getting an IDE optical drive!! thanks for the help!!
