Ohh, I have the same mother board and cpu. I'm getting a gtx570 soon. I'm too scared, because I don't know if I connect the molex/pcie cables to my PSU (1000w, that doesnt have a pcie cable or an open molex connector)
@thierryvt Well I just checked and I think it doesn't even have 1. There's just a bunch of SATA and some black molex looking connectors. I was trying to take the PSU out, but it was pretty hard to even move the thing.
@thierryvt I just bought my computer build about a year ago, Thanksgivin '09. Oh, and do I really have to plug in the GPU if I'm only going to use one GPU?
@4PsychoNitro it's impossible that your psu does not have any pci-e connectors. is it a modular psu? Or could you give me the brand and type of the psu?
Overclocking is not something you should do if you don't know anything about it. It's not as simple as just jacking up the multipliers or base clocks, at least if you plan on doing a somewhat decent oc.
@thierryvt lol ok, I won't oc it. I bought a custom made pc from this site, scroll down to the PSU's and find 1000 Watts Extreme Gaming Series. wwwOibuypowerOcom/Store/Gamer_Paladin_F770
@thierryvt I really want a new PSU, but this one has some molex connectors, which I thought was ok. Now I'm really thinking of getting or wanting ( I'm broke ) a PSU from Corsair. Should I plan on getting a 950W or a 1000W? --I'm going to check my PSU right now and see if it has enough molex connectors for even 2 gpu's
@thierryvt Sorry if I'm spamming... It's non modular. And I'm thinking of either getting a Corsair 1000w(modular) or a 950w(non-modular). I think I'm going to have to get a 950w, because the 1000w looks too big. Damn, sorry, I'm going to measure my psu right now and see if I have room for the 1000w.
@DisneysBonkers028 not sure what you mean with that, this is a desktop card and will never fit inside a laptop and even if it did, it would probably overheat the moment you touch the powerbutton (if the psu doesn't blow up that is)...
How does this cpu cooler performs with your cpu and clocks? I want the same setup, but i'm not that sure about the cooler... Can you give me the idle temps and max load temps plz?
@thierryvt wtf, not a bad comment to you, but that's quite disappointing :'( and that for a 60 € cooler... Is the 75C while gaming or using stress-software? (like prime95 or intelburntest) What cooler makes it cooler then? The coolermaster V10 then? (cauze it's 100€...) Or will the corsair H50 liquid cooler be better then your cooler? Anyways, thanks for the fast response!
@climb2freak the v8 is more for the looks than for the performance and i knew that when i bought it. those temps were measured while running the intelburntest. and for good cooling performance you might wanna consider getting some real watercooling or a full copper heatsink with a high rpm fan.
@zahndy i think the majority of the gamers isn't going to get a watercooling set just for a graphics card. way too expensive for the benefit it gives. i'd much rather use that money to get myself 2 HD 5870's then 1 gtx480 with watercooling but that's just my opinion.
i know they are but why would i? i'm perfectly happy with the performance delivered by the 4890's. besides the 4890's support the main feature of dx11: tesselation.
i wouldn't say retarded but i'm not impressed by the quality. one cooler is already starting to wear out (doing about 500-800 rpm less at the same fan percentage) so i was thinking of getting a retail cooler, something like a twin turbo pro.
lol , its like looking at my pc but mine has only 1 HD4890 black edition, already have it for a few months im still very happy with it; I guess you must be too :D !
Im running i7 920 as well but I only have 750Watt psu and i would like to upgrade to 5870 soon later get the other one. Do you know what could be the power draw for the whole system? Or any site that has power calculator with the database on full load consumption of any combined rigs please?
@donwinkey Antec's website has a psu meter, put in all your specs and it lets you choose either idle or full load for the power consumption, if you have a corsair tx750w psu then you will be fine with the i7 920 and two 5870's, minimum requirements for 5870 crossfired is a 600w psu, my friend has the tx750 and has his phenom 9950 oc'd with two hdd in raid 0, and two gtx 275 oc edition in sli and has had no problems.
I notice the price of v8 is equivalent to most water cooler system. I have never used any other cooler other than stock heatsink/fan. What do you guys think for taking care of heat: WATER COOLER or V8?
$10 differences, give or take. So the V8 is about $64 on amazon (higher on other sites). Corsair H50 is about 70-80$, check newegg. Referring to my original question, would you rather use water cooling or heatsink/fan? Seems like you rather go with water system. lol
lol the v8 is expensive in the US, i payed €40 for it. i don't think of the H50 as being true watercooling. it performs in the same range as the mid to high end aircoolers. if you want a real improvement go with a custom loop.
i can reach 4.2 no problem, but my cores were 95°C on stresstest and i find that a little bit over the top. i can put it on 3.8 but i see no reason to do so.
@ZR3FR1K - Farcry 2 is a game that favors nvidia cards moreso than ATI. It should do way better on a different game...but even so...you shouldnt be getting 18 fps, thats pretty odd.
Just put my second 4890 in, had to put the fan on the back of the HDD cage on the bottom because it just wouldn't fit at all with the twinfan asus infront of it.. sigh such a pain, kinda dissapointed at the lack of space in the 902.
well i put the fan on the cage at the bottom and it's cooling my old 4890, i got an asus twin fan as my other one and it's actually quite a bit bigger than the stock cooler. Runs really cool though, quiet too, no stock cooler vaccum cleaner BS.
Mine stay at about 65 for the stock and 62 for the twin fan, tbh it wasn't really worth the second 4890 atm, everything ran pretty great with one before. Looks cool though.
I've not purchased my case yet for this reason, does anyone know where I can get a list of cases that support the full size of a 5870?? Might get 2x 5850's yet but would like the space incase I change m mind
Awesome setup man!! I also have the cooler master V8 cpu cooler which works awesome. I also have the same exact xfx 4890, but I only have one right now. When I get the second one, do I have to run the two crossfire bridges like you? Running two wont hurt anything if it's not necessary right?
Yes, basically to do it that way you will need 4 molex's for one card, but I strongly recommend NOT doing that, At the very least, it just won't run the card cause it's under-powered... and at the very worst it could fry your power supply and possibly other components in your system. systemJust upgrade your power supply to something that is SLI-Crossfire certified.
Good for you!! Whatever makes you happy. What's that have to do with what i was talking about with the molex connectors??? I have an Antec True Power 750 Watt that's Crossfire ready, and can run two without breaking a sweat!!
can my corsair xt750w runs without problem two 4890 in crossfire?? cpu= 955, 8gb ram ddr3, mobo ecs blackseries, 2 HDD 7200rpm, and xfx 4890. but i wanna another 4890
Nice .. my brother built a PC with a Amd Phenom II X4 965 OC @ 4.1 GHz w/ 8GB DDR3 and a HD4850, works great how much of a difference would you see between the 4850 and the 4890 (Both crossfire?)
the p6t has dual ehternet ports, gigabyte only 1. the p6t has 1 combo ps2 slot, the gigabyte has 2 ps2 slots. the p6t has 3 pci-e x16 slots, the gigabyte has 2. the p6t has 6 sata connectors, the gigabyte has 8....
awesome video! I'm thinking about getting the same xfx 4890 (only1 though), and I was wondering about the noise from the fan and the temperatures. I can bare loud air blowing, but I hate the whining. does this card have the "whine" when you crank the fan speed up?
i leave the fans on temperature controlled modus and they never go over 70°C (and that's after 3-4 hours of non stop far cry 2, crysis or prototype), on idle the temperature is around 50°C.
i bareley hear the cards on idle, under full load you hear the fan but it's not so loud that it disturbs me. and i don't know what you mean by whining but this card is fairly quiet and only gets too loud (for me) when you go over 70%.
I can't really overclock my cards over 1GHz for the clock speed. I just got them up and running because the new power supply didn't work right. It's fine now, but I like to "burn in" my parts before I start punishing them.
i can but i don't. got them at 900 MHz atm and that's fine for me. (i did got them stable at 1050 MHz but they got to warm for me to feel comfortable)
Even though the fans are suppose to expel the heat out of the back of the case, some of the heat gets inside of the case. I now have a 10F raise in internal temperature from both cards. It's amazing how hot these cards get. I damn near burn my hands feeling the heat from the exhaust ports on the cards.
Ohh, I have the same mother board and cpu. I'm getting a gtx570 soon. I'm too scared, because I don't know if I connect the molex/pcie cables to my PSU (1000w, that doesnt have a pcie cable or an open molex connector)

ChangoKong007 2 years ago
600 watt is the minimum. so i think you should be fine with 750
thierryvt 2 years ago
id get a bigger power supply with you going for crossfire a 800-1000 watt should be good
wardy92 2 years ago

Zico10101010 2 years ago
600 watt is the minimum required for crossfiring 2 4890's.

i'm not sure if it would make a big difference. what my guess is that 2 4850's equal a 4890 (probably the 2 4850's will slightly outperform a 4890).
try measuring your 2 4850's against a 295 and you'll know what the difference is with 2 4890's :)
thierryvt 2 years ago
Nice .. my brother built a PC with a Amd Phenom II X4 965 OC @ 4.1 GHz w/ 8GB DDR3 and a HD4850, works great how much of a difference would you see between the 4850 and the 4890 (Both crossfire?)

is that P6T Deluxe better than Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R?
rifat2u 2 years ago
depends on what you're looking for.
the p6t has dual ehternet ports, gigabyte only 1. the p6t has 1 combo ps2 slot, the gigabyte has 2 ps2 slots. the p6t has 3 pci-e x16 slots, the gigabyte has 2. the p6t has 6 sata connectors, the gigabyte has 8....
thierryvt 2 years ago
I need a problem free motherboard which will never give me pain. not necessarily best performer but problem free.
rifat2u 2 years ago
for what cpu? what's the budget?
thierryvt 2 years ago
i ordered my pair already!Should come next week.

hey i got 2 questions , does 2 4890's perform bether than 1 gtx 295
and is 750 watt powesupply enough ( got the same system as you)
greetings
nvideabelgium 2 years ago
not better, they do as good as a 295 (sometimes they do better then a 295 but in other games the 295 will be better).
but then again 2 4890's are alot cheaper then a 295.
and i believe that 600 watts was the minimum recommended by ati.
thierryvt 2 years ago
yeah they sayed crossfireX 600 watt you need min for it i readed that just a moment ago ^^.
well i guess i go for 2 4890's then i guess :)
greetings

cool, make a vid of it when you get em.

I got a XFX 4890 XXX today i'm just wondering where the power leds are for (above the power connectors) can someone help me? thanks!
PBskill 2 years ago
what power leds? there are 2 6-pin power connectors and the little plug you c is for the fan.
thierryvt 2 years ago
Not with the XXX version (and the black edition) there you got 1 6-pin connector and one 8 pin.
PBskill 2 years ago
then what was your question?
thierryvt 2 years ago
im doin tha next week getting 2 cant wait :D

awesome video! I'm thinking about getting the same xfx 4890 (only1 though), and I was wondering about the noise from the fan and the temperatures. I can bare loud air blowing, but I hate the whining. does this card have the "whine" when you crank the fan speed up?
also, how are the load temps?
thanks :)
jessehalloween 2 years ago
i leave the fans on temperature controlled modus and they never go over 70°C (and that's after 3-4 hours of non stop far cry 2, crysis or prototype), on idle the temperature is around 50°C.
i bareley hear the cards on idle, under full load you hear the fan but it's not so loud that it disturbs me. and i don't know what you mean by whining but this card is fairly quiet and only gets too loud (for me) when you go over 70%.
thierryvt 2 years ago
alright thanks it sounds good :)
I did find a video on youtube of somebody cranking it up to 100, and the way it sounded, I don't think I would even mind
jessehalloween 2 years ago
Try speeding the fan up to 100%. And you will see what we mean by loud. I mean REALLY FREAKING LOUD. So loud it gets annoying after 10 seconds.
derbigpr500 2 years ago
yeah that's loud but catalyst will never do that unless the cards overheats ofcourse
thierryvt 2 years ago
lol..yeah this really kick ass...nice job dude..i'm so jealous with you :(
syedjaafar 2 years ago
yup just checked. You need both bridges for 2 way crossfire. If it's 3 way or quad, then one bridge between each card
Blacktoxic 2 years ago
hey bro sure you only need one xfire connector and not both? I read on the ATI guide that you'll need both
Blacktoxic 2 years ago
it's possible... i thought that you only needed 1. you get 2 tho (1 with each card) so you can try with both 1 and 2 bridges connected :)
thierryvt 2 years ago
why do u have both bridges?
crunksta112 2 years ago
it looks cooler :)

Very sexy cards. I have the XXX versions and they are very nice too. Which versions do you have?
Wigwahm 2 years ago
i have the normal version but oc'ed it to 950 Mhz on the core and 975 MHz on the memory
thierryvt 2 years ago
I can't really overclock my cards over 1GHz for the clock speed. I just got them up and running because the new power supply didn't work right. It's fine now, but I like to "burn in" my parts before I start punishing them.
Wigwahm 2 years ago
i can but i don't. got them at 900 MHz atm and that's fine for me. (i did got them stable at 1050 MHz but they got to warm for me to feel comfortable)
thierryvt 2 years ago
Even though the fans are suppose to expel the heat out of the back of the case, some of the heat gets inside of the case. I now have a 10F raise in internal temperature from both cards. It's amazing how hot these cards get. I damn near burn my hands feeling the heat from the exhaust ports on the cards.
Wigwahm 2 years ago
my system went up with 5°C so nothing to bad and yes the air coming out the back is warm but that's normal.
thierryvt 2 years ago
i f was him buy this one..MSI R4890-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express x16 (2.0v) ...already overclocked oc check the specs?
alphatao1 2 years ago
meh waste of money imo. you can oc them just as well yourself
thierryvt 2 years ago
The new vapor x has the best overclocking ability.
kimzor1989 2 years ago
i got vapor x thinking of getting a second one any idea what psu i would need? they use less power n shit so i hope my 650w will handle them both?
sprijic2 2 years ago
i think 600 watt was the minimum for 2 4890's.
thierryvt 2 years ago
nice!! now i don't have to worry about getting an IDE optical drive!! thanks for the help!!
