I read somewhere that Atheism is where terrorism is born. Religion is there because without it, we would never know what is ethical and what not. All peace started form religion. If a religious person does do bad things, he is not a true believer of god because to believe, is to fear. And that's not true about the default thing. Some people aren't sure what to believe at all. You just mentioned one yourself: Christianity. Read the bible- it says to do very horrible things. Check out foulheretic's or grnmessiah's vids- they explore some of the specific verses. Check out the Westboro Baptist Church who feel called by god to picket funerals among other things.

Islam also says that the best jihad is speaking a word of truth against an unjust ruler. Another Hadith/Sunnah is "None of you have faith except those who wish for their brothers what they wish for themself. I used to think Islam said to kill nonmuslims, but I got proved wrong.
