The thing is... he thought he was alive for about 10 seconds and then he realizes that it wasn't the Master who would knock four times--bring about his death-- but Wilf. Then he realizes he really is going to die. Dammit, Steven Moffat and your intricate plotlines.
"I've lived long enough to know that a longer life isn't always a better one ... in the end you just get tired ... of watching everything turn to dust"
"Sometimes I think a Timelord lives too long ..."
"But me? I could do so much more ... SO MUCH MORE!! But this is what I get ... my reward ... and IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!" *pauses ...* "Oh .... Live too long ..."
Cruel, lifeless words cannot express the raw emotion delivered so well in that scene, along with this incredible and music ... beautiful
Y'know, considering the doctor can regrow a hand if it's cut off, and he can use his regeneration energy with the hand to stay alive, why doesn't he cut off a couple hands and store them in the TARDIS for infinite life? Makes sense.
@ItsTheBrownBus He's only able to regrow his hand if he's within the first few hours of his post-regeneration cycle, which he was when he regrew his hand in The Christmas Invasion.
Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking, seeing a man who's so strong, so brave, being in pain like that. Even though he's fictional. (Supposivly, I'm not sold on that he-doesn't-exist idea. I think he does.)
The look in his eyes when he first hears the four knocks is horrifying. Heartbreaking, he knows he's dying, one way or another. And I lvoe his look when he realises it's only Wilf wanting to be let out.
Saddest moment in doctor who for me. It's funny, because when we break down and we may say things that we may regret people would say "you are only human, its okay". And the doctor portrayed a character who seemed to be somewhat immune to this. Then again he is an alien so may be it wouldnt apply? But the awesome thing was the doctor can be selfish, and act selfish but we forgive him because he is only a time lord! i enjoyed the rant! Tenant was the best, even if he wanted to leave. Bye doctor!
@fogwatch The only way you can give up your dreams is if you give them up to somebody else. Make sure that the people you give them up to are worth it, and otherwise they don't deserve it. Be happy with those who hold sway over your future, or be happy fighting for it as hard as you can :)

To have so much you want to do in life, but to be denied it. I can identify a lot with this old/young man
