Well, I just dig it, and have always loved the album. Despite the avalanche of criticism it received at the time. Thanks for posting, it looks like an amazing tour to me. I know he's releasing it on DVD. 5*****'S
Still think the best version he ever did of this is on the album lou reed live. Without choir or flutes and strings, but in my opinion far more intense. Reed's singing is better, and the two lead guitarist really nail it down, especially in the outro. Check that version out, you won't regret it!
Lou has reached amazing heights in his artistic career. As a fan I have to deal with these, to my opinion, low moments too. It's really just no good. I applaud him for trying it, after all the idea was not bad but I wonder if it was all his own idea..... So let's forget about this one and move on.
I wonder if I am watching and especially listening to something different to all the others who have made comments here?? I love this song - but this version is (to my ears) a massacre! guitars all over the place and no balance in the arrangement... Strange, really strange...
I guess it´s a matter of taste, I definately don´t agree with on any of your criticism
regarding either the guitars or Lou´s vocals.
Then again it´s live right ? And apart from the magnificent feeling of hearing Berlin livewith Lou, the band, orchestra and that beautiful choir, I´m sure there are flaws.
I just don´t hear them.
To me the raw power at the end gives it
a new edge that makes it even stronger.
But hey, you can always go back to the album from 1973 !
After many night drunk perhaps, I tend to agree with you. The original "Berlin" was the best. I do like looking at the video and watching waterver is going on.
Berlin is "Sgt. Pepper" of 70ties. Very underrated after "Transformers"... "Sad Song" - my favourite one. Didn't expect Lou would play it again. Thanks for posting!
This version of Sad Song is awesome. I saw the London show. Spellbinding, and this was definitely one of the highlights. I love the way it builds and builds.
Wow, thanks for posting this martinirosen... this concert looks simply amazing... Good Lord, Lou getting to do Berlin live, who would have thought it!? Stupendous stuff. Thanks again. (Now if only Abba would reunite for a bit....)
There´s a tour going on in Europe now, think it started in Australia late -06. check out his Myspace page or loureed(dot)com for details. I saw him the first time in Stockholm -74 which is a couple of years ago
are you kidding? lou's great live! he's made some of the best live recordings ever!

I think they have some technical problems. At 1.43 the lead guitarist makes a mess of it, at 1.58 he waves for a new guitar.

guess he broke a snare there... messed the fine solo up there indeed ;)

Just ridiculously good. 'Berlin' may be bleak but it certainly isn't 'difficult'; it's actually exquisite.
