This is the perfect antidote to all the slow, heavy-handed organ versions that seem to litter YouTube. I already have the recordings of this fabulously joyful music by both Les Arts Florissants and Les Musiciens du Louvre.. Now I am going to buy this one - they are all so good I really cannot choose between them. The French have a way with their own baroque music that is simply inimitable.
I like this melody and the introduction it´s very beauty, but i never heard this version. It´s a new version or is the classic? Thanks for this video.

Eccellente! Insuperabile! Superb presentation! Bravissimi Maestro Martin Gester e Le Parlement de Musique! It's only just that a French group performe this French masterpiece and in Versailles, where Louis XIV impulsed French culture so greatly.
Aside from being historically informed and musically immaculate, the best thing about this performance is that the musicians appear to be enjoying themselves!
The part at 1:22 is the recognized "Prelude" to Te Deum. What is all the music from the beginning to 1:22? Is that part of the Prelude, too? I cannot find this part in most online scores that I have searched.
damn, that did swing... amazing rendition. it was hard not to stand up an dance to it. They really nailed it with this performance. Mostly, this piece is played with too much kitsch, but yeah, they got the right touch here. beautiful. I think Charpentier would be proud to hear it like that!
This is great! I have misplaced a very fast & brassy version, which also says Mezzo and is done in a religious edifice. Do you know of an even better version? I commented on this one but don't know how to find my comment and the link...
If the Vietcong had countered with this anti-aircraft (instead of the .50-caliber mounted on the little Citroen 2CV), every U.S. helicopter would beat a retreat - with all due respect to Wagner
@banshee8228 the correct name in english is "ophicleide". Some organs have stops named after this instrument, e.g., the most powerful in the world is the "Grand Ophicleide" in Atlantic City Convention Hall organ, with 2,5 metres (water column) of air pressure.
Louis XIV would have not tolerated the slow motion of many modern interpretations of this Te DEUM; he often in his youth participated in many speedy court ballets orchestrated by gay Lully, and he wanted joy and alacrity of execution to be part of his triumphs. What joy and light springs from that interpretation. I love the cymbalist execution! Superb.
@Fakeslimshady No, it is a THEORBO in 2:00. It was developed during the late sixteenth century, inspired by the demand for extended bass range for use in opera and musical works based on basso continuo. Theorbo signifies a number of long-necked lutes with second peg-boxes. a similar instrument is the Angelique which combines features of the lute, the harp, and the Theorbo. Pipa (also known as Chinese lute) but it does not resemble both Theorbo & Angelique instruments.
It's a great interpretation , but I think it is a little too fast. You lose some of the regal majesty of the piece when you go this fast. I think the interpretation by Les Arts Florissants uploaded by "ilcodega" has the best tempo. Also, has anyone noticed the stunningly attractive blond violinist in the front row who appears in this video? She is one of the reasons I return to this video (aside from the great playing of the orchestra, of course).
This is fine fast. It is a triumphal song of thanks to God: Te Deum laudamus (We praise you O God). This is the epoch of Louis XIV, remember. Glory, triumph, energy, self-confidence. Marvelous performance. I keep returning to this stirring piece by these wonderful artists.
Grandiosa ejecución de esta obra, sobre todo con los instrumentos de la época. Hubiera sido genial también que se hubieran vestido con ropa de la época tal y como se ve en la película "Tous les matins du monde".
A superb interpretation. Can it be improved? Hard to believe. It has moved me greatly to hear this marvelous performance of Le Parlement de Musique. Vive la France et vive M A Charpentier! Bravissimi tutti quanti: il direttore, i musici, il coro, i cantanti! Singularly brilliant. Magnifique.
maybe it is that i'm just too fond of fireworks, but the only problem of this piece is that all the Te Deum proper seems quite bland in comparison with the prelude...
@Anjoucat I absolutely agree!! I'm an amateur, of course, and I have always thought this wonderful theme should be played faster and faster and faster to be expressive, BUT now I see it doesn't need the SPEED to show its beauty, it needs the right interpretation, the one I hear on this video! It's great, the best of the many I have heard!
@Anjoucat I totally agree with you. it's a magnificent piece of truly baroque music (the entire De Deum) and must be played by authentic instruments of that era.
