I don't know if @Henkkaaa89 was serious, but his statement comes close to truth at least. I once wondered what the all-time lap record on Interlagos was, after having seen Vettel taking pole again. It turned out the fastest lap dates from 2004 (Montoya I believe), and if the dominant Vettel in his Red Bull would have participated back then, in this year's car, he would have qualified P15. FIFTEEN!
The cars are terribly slow now, due to FIA restrictions.
@EpicLiima What are you talking? You think Alonso can overtake Fisichella in a Benetton, with a Minardi? Abu Dhabi is a place with points of overtake? C'mon, go learn a little more about Formula One and we can talk later...
@EpicLiima i would suggest you go and rewatch all the races fernando has raced in, i think you might have fernando alonso mixed with vettel, he is crap in traffic, unless a safety car session has helped him, silverstone was a good example of that a year or so ago,
@TheJjoona22 if you watch the viud in replay, you will see there is a renault shown, the benetton didnt ahve tyhe yellow flash, i know what was and wasnt racing, i work in the f1 industry, so stfu dopey little twonk
impressive stuff. shows his real talent to be pestering a bennetton at that time...especially as we had repeated claims that fisichella should be in a bigger team right up to when ferrari finally gave him half a season! not as impressive as vettel winning in a STR (effectively a ferrari) at monza mind!
@mercsmania Yes, but looking at it, STR set the car up with a wet race in mind, whereas a lot of people went for the dry, in hope for that... Totalled with the fact that it then rained... You get the picture. Lets face it, Bourdais wasn't far behind him, so the car was on the money in anyone's hands.
minardi actually managed to bag good drivers from today, alonso and webber just alonso has 1 year extra f1 experience and has won two drivers championships
Even in that poor car you could see Alonsos very special talent. Back then, in 2001, everyone talked about the "wunderkind" Raikkonen or Montoya, but the real star of the future was Alonso. This guy worked himself up from the slowest and poorest team into a Ferrari! Forza Ferrari, Forza Alonso!
wonder why alonso is even able to keep up with fisico?
The car's main problem was the unusual wide-angled (111°) engine configuration. Although this offered potential aerodynamic advantages as it sat lower in the chassis, the initial form of the engine proved to lack horsepower and reliability. The first half of the season was a disaster as the cars often struggled to qualify in the top twenty, and could only battle Minardi at the tail of the field.
I remember a similar race the same season when Alonso hounded Button (also in a Benetton) for the whole duration of the Austrian GP and if im not mistaken finished in front of him! In a Minardi and the 2001 Minardi was one of the worst they ever produced.
@opfalcon I'm a Minardi fan of old and the 2001 Minardi, when it didn't fall apart (Tarso Marques tended to get more mechanical failures), was a pretty tidy car. It was horrendously down on power, but Alonso performed some minor miracles in some qualifying and race sessions. This video shows one of them. For the record, Alonso's best qualifying performance was 17th in the USGP, beating Villeneuve, and his best race was producing 53 qualifying laps at Suzuka to be P11 and beat Frentzen by 0.2s.
heres a story about how minardi discovered the talent of alonso.Oneday minardi has given the opportunity to young drivers to test with a f1 car. When an f1 car passed through the straigtht very fast a minardi mechanic thought it was barrichelo with the ferrari after he saw thatwas a minardi told the driver to go back to pits immediately. They toldhim that he wasdriving risky.the reply of the driver was:really sir? i was going carefully cause i don't know the track.he was 3secquicker HE WAS ALONSO
@clairvoyant13pao13 Wow, what a great talent. If Alonso was only 3 seconds quicker while pushing in a straight line, he must've really sucked in the corners.
@Makrateli I wouldn't say so, there were many teams around in the 90's worse than Minardi. Anyway, Alonso easily outdrove that Minardi, you'd think he was at least driving a Prost or an Arrows.
This is only a video of Alonso overtaking Fisichella, why must you guys bring up the topic of Hamilton and Alonso in McLaren, blablablah? Must you guys go around saying that on all Alonso and Hamilton videos? Damn this is annoying man, just comment on the video, not anything else... Seriously.

By the way, Lewis has only himself to blame for losing the WC that year.
so are you telling me McLaren ( a well regarded team ) hire a 2 x world champion and a Rookie who just won the GP2, are u telling me that they are gonna favour hamilton over a two time world champion, what drugs are you on?
i blame alonso, he was the big crybaby when things wer'nt going his way, coz alonso was used to beating his team mates all the time in ( mirnadi and renault ) and then when he came to Mclaren he realised Hamilton was gonna be hard to beat
For the first half of the 2001 season that Bennetton was a bitch of a car, Alonso even outqualified Button on a couple of occasions! By Belgium Bennetton had sorted out their act though where Fisichella put in a superb drive.
Confidence in a machine that shouldn't be going that quickly! No doubt about it - Alonso has exceptional feel in a car much less than his abilities...
The Ferrari was an arse to drive... And Force India had a brilliant low downforce package (hence Sutil's 4th at Monza), had in-season testing been allowed still, Fisi would have done better
@McLarenMercedes Actually, Fisichella out performed his team mate, Jensen Button, in 2001. He also got the car onto the podium at Spa, a real drivers track. The car struggled as it was powered by Renault, making a return after leaving in 1997 and they were developing a new wide angled (111 degrees) engine. Gave great handling due to low center of gravity but was really under-powered at that point.
@McLarenMercedes Alonso was always over a second faster than the best time "possible" in the simulations of the team, is more than nice, is very impressive

He's an exceptional talent but this video doesn't really show his credentials. The 2001 was a dog of a car and only scored good points in Belgium, it seemed to spend its days fighting out with the Jags, Arrows, Prost and Minardi Team after a woeful transition in the summer.
I am spanish, i think Hamilton is a good driver, but i do not like him a bit. And trust me, people all over the worrld is TIRED of watching hamilton´s father on screen every 5 minutes of every race...
Renault does not have a bad car, in fact they are at the same level as ferrari or mclaren. The problem is that there are 6 cars on the front running with 20% more of downforce.
Alonso won 2005 and 2006 and he did not have even the best car. Fact.
I disagree. The Renault package has always been strong but they focused on making their 05 car before the championship contenders did. And because of that, for 2005, Renault had the best car and kept developing that through 06.
That´s my point, Alonso made it LOOK LIKE he was driving the best car, when the mclarens were flying in every circuit.
If renault had the best car, how comes that trulli was not scoring even half the points that fernando did? Renault had a good car, but Alonso made it better. And of course the michelin tyres really suited fernando´s style.
trulli wasn't driving for renault in 2004 ...and the1st face of 2005 fisichella won, because it was the best car of the season. mclaren was 2nd best...
well i just wrote crap xDD... of course trulli drove for renault in 04 he broke schumachers winning streak in monaco.. i think i just interchanged the names :D
I see where your coming from here, Hamiltons father is on screen throughout the race. I wish he'd go for a piss or somthing, know-ones interest in him.
hahaha u guys should wake up Ferrari only got 3 points Mclaren can't even get a podium and Renault finished 8th come on people stop talk about past Button and Brawn going to dominate the season 3 wins out of 4 race that sums it all
Everyone knows Jenson is domiating at the moment coz he has the quickest and most developed car on the grid. It shows how much skill Hamilton & Alonso have when they can score points in uncompetitive cars, the Mclaren struggles to even make Q2 yet Hamilton has scored points in every race.
Its only a matter of time before Mclaren, Ferrari & Renault have the upgrades that put them firmly in contention.
yess!!...that's what I've said too! Lewis hamilton is a good driver because he is busting his ass getting a few points here and there in a crappy car. He can actually drive but those haters still deny it!. and alonso too he is very good as well like you mentioned. Did you know that if mclaren wasn't penalized in aus they would be 3rd in points I think. they would be top 5 I know. also I think kimi is over the hill to be honest. Massa will be their better driver
Yeah....thing is with Kimi he's inconsistent, like he's always been. Massa,Hamilton & Alonso all completely outdrove him last season.
And yeah the points thing is ridiculous, we all know if that double diffuser was on a Mclaren it would have been banned by stewards after qualy in melbourne
Inconsistent, I actually thought he didn't answer the call when he needed to. massa picked up the pace and drove with his heart. Kimi was emotionless and talentless apparently. Lol x^D yes the diffuser is on a brawn *Ross brawn: The ross that used to work at ferrari :P * so it's a-ok as long as mclaren struggle....
I really think the f.i.a is trying to mess up mclaren until ferrari catches up ¬___¬
Thats what I thought, but the more jenson dominates the more I'v e become impressed by him. No other driver is so smooth at the moment (ideal for the current tire situation) and he's not made mistakes - something many world champs have done in the past with the best car. Maybe he's not an Alonso or Vettel but the guy would be a worthy world champ especially if he continues like this.
Yeah i agree, he is driving well and wld make a worthy champ,, but dont forget Jenson hasn't had any pressure to perform, nor has he had any serious competition (other than the Redbulls in the wet), nor is he being caught up in silly stewarding and FIA politics, so there is far lesser chance of him making mistakes..
Durrrrr he didnt try & fuck Trulli, if you watched it and listened to the radio trans Lewis did nothing wrong on the track, Trulli took the position back under the safety car after going off the track, so Lewis was and shouldve been 3rd.
If you think a stupid team radio transmission is the equivalent of ramming drivers off the track, using illegal equipment and having stewards constantly rule in ur favour then u must be a dimwit. No genuine F1 fan wants races decided by stewards 4 days later!
Well Trulli only got the penalty because Hamilton told the FIA that he didn't leave him past intentionally, knowing that by being dishonest, Trulli would be penalised unfairly. Before you make a comment next time, why don't you read up on the issue beforehand, instead of touching yourself to images of Hamilton.
Lol, Trulli wasn't penalised unfairly, he overtook under waved yellow flags and behind the safety car, so he did actually break the rules. The whole thing has been blown out of proportion, do you think stewards deciding race results 4 days later is ok? I dont, it makes a mockery of racing.
Your comments are ignorant and childish, i'm actually a Ferrari fan.
Trulli was penalised unfairly. He undertook under waved yellows yes, but only because Mclaren instructed Hamilton to let him past because Lewis had passed him initially under yellows, even though Trulli was off the track, it was an error on Mclaren's behalf, and when they realised that they shouldn't have left him back past they tried to cover it up so they could get the 3rd they felt they deserved, even if that meant that Trulli would be penalised unfairly.
Yeah i understand all that, but if a driver goes off the track as Trulli did, Hamilton is entitled to pass him even under waved yellows. What stinks about the whole incident tho is Mclaren were trying to get clarification from Charlie Whiting, the radio transmissions showed Hamilton knew the rules but his team didnt, so why would the race director ignore repeated requests for clarification? That doesnt make any sense, and whatever way you look at it, it seems slightly suspicious.
As a reference, at Fujji 07 Massa was given a drive thru penalty after he spun behind the safety car, then re-took his position under waved yellow flag. That was exactly what Trulli did, so Hamilton did nothing wrong.
the v10's are still awesome... from my opinion, only the R31 sound is better

For the first half of the 2001 season that Bennetton was a bitch of a car, Alonso even outqualified Button on a couple of occasions! By Belgium Bennetton had sorted out their act though where Fisichella put in a superb drive.
PiNInFarina18 2 years ago 2
Confidence in a machine that shouldn't be going that quickly! No doubt about it - Alonso has exceptional feel in a car much less than his abilities...
ashacrasha 2 years ago
I'll admit I'm no fan of Alonso but that was brilliant driving, to put pressure on a car that should be much faster
hypersaiyangoku 2 years ago 3
actually the Benetton in 2001 was a bad car and they only managed 7'th in the championship with 10 points in total
my guess is Fischella was driving leasurely since he was out of the points, which he still does in the Ferrari today in 2009
anyway, quite a nice job by Alonso in the Minardi

Gleippz911 2 years ago

freakadelle95 2 years ago
NeinDankeNazis 2 years ago
WMMan 2 years ago

Fact.
Oasisf1 2 years ago
I disagree. The Renault package has always been strong but they focused on making their 05 car before the championship contenders did. And because of that, for 2005, Renault had the best car and kept developing that through 06.
thrillathakilla 2 years ago 2
That´s my point, Alonso made it LOOK LIKE he was driving the best car, when the mclarens were flying in every circuit.
If renault had the best car, how comes that trulli was not scoring even half the points that fernando did? Renault had a good car, but Alonso made it better. And of course the michelin tyres really suited fernando´s style.
Oasisf1 2 years ago
trulli wasn't driving for renault in 2004 ...and the1st face of 2005 fisichella won, because it was the best car of the season. mclaren was 2nd best...
Streitstarter 2 years ago
Yes, ALONSO 133 Points FISI 58
How comes there was no 1-2 finishes for alonso-fisi with the best car, as you say?
I tell you why, cause it was a turtle, but thank god, the Mcliar team did not know how to stop blowing engine after engine.
Oasisf1 2 years ago
Trulli was driving Renault in 2004. He got fired close to end of the season and Villeneuve replaced him thou.

I see where your coming from here, Hamiltons father is on screen throughout the race. I wish he'd go for a piss or somthing, know-ones interest in him.
kimirferrari 2 years ago
hahaha u guys should wake up Ferrari only got 3 points Mclaren can't even get a podium and Renault finished 8th come on people stop talk about past Button and Brawn going to dominate the season 3 wins out of 4 race that sums it all
thetime 2 years ago
Everyone knows Jenson is domiating at the moment coz he has the quickest and most developed car on the grid. It shows how much skill Hamilton & Alonso have when they can score points in uncompetitive cars, the Mclaren struggles to even make Q2 yet Hamilton has scored points in every race.
Its only a matter of time before Mclaren, Ferrari & Renault have the upgrades that put them firmly in contention.
bmk139 2 years ago 2
yess!!...that's what I've said too! Massa will be their better driver
jraybay 2 years ago
Yeah....thing is with Kimi he's inconsistent, like he's always been. Massa,Hamilton & Alonso all completely outdrove him last season.
And yeah the points thing is ridiculous, we all know if that double diffuser was on a Mclaren it would have been banned by stewards after qualy in melbourne
bmk139 2 years ago
Inconsistent, I actually thought he didn't answer the call when he needed to. massa picked up the pace and drove with his heart. Kimi was emotionless and talentless apparently. Lol x^D yes the diffuser is on a brawn *Ross brawn: The ross that used to work at ferrari :P * so it's a-ok as long as mclaren struggle....
I really think the f.i.a is trying to mess up mclaren until ferrari catches up ¬___¬
peace.
jraybay 2 years ago
Thats what I thought, but the more jenson dominates the more I'v e become impressed by him. No other driver is so smooth at the moment (ideal for the current tire situation) and he's not made mistakes - something many world champs have done in the past with the best car. Maybe he's not an Alonso or Vettel but the guy would be a worthy world champ especially if he continues like this.
PiNInFarina18 2 years ago
Yeah i agree, he is driving well and wld make a worthy champ,, but dont forget Jenson hasn't had any pressure to perform, nor has he had any serious competition (other than the Redbulls in the wet), nor is he being caught up in silly stewarding and FIA politics, so there is far lesser chance of him making mistakes..
bmk139 2 years ago
Quite nice driving, though the Benneton (NOT RENAULT) car was pretty shite.

bmk139 2 years ago
Durrrrr he didnt try & fuck Trulli, if you watched it and listened to the radio trans Lewis did nothing wrong on the track, Trulli took the position back under the safety car after going off the track, so Lewis was and shouldve been 3rd.
If you think a stupid team radio transmission is the equivalent of ramming drivers off the track, using illegal equipment and having stewards constantly rule in ur favour then u must be a dimwit. No genuine F1 fan wants races decided by stewards 4 days later!
bmk139 2 years ago
Well Trulli only got the penalty because Hamilton told the FIA that he didn't leave him past intentionally, knowing that by being dishonest, Trulli would be penalised unfairly. Before you make a comment next time, why don't you read up on the issue beforehand, instead of touching yourself to images of Hamilton.
Rob130290 2 years ago
Lol, Trulli wasn't penalised unfairly, he overtook under waved yellow flags and behind the safety car, so he did actually break the rules. The whole thing has been blown out of proportion, do you think stewards deciding race results 4 days later is ok? I dont, it makes a mockery of racing.
Your comments are ignorant and childish, i'm actually a Ferrari fan.
bmk139 2 years ago
Trulli was penalised unfairly. He undertook under waved yellows yes, but only because Mclaren instructed Hamilton to let him past because Lewis had passed him initially under yellows, even though Trulli was off the track, it was an error on Mclaren's behalf, and when they realised that they shouldn't have left him back past they tried to cover it up so they could get the 3rd they felt they deserved, even if that meant that Trulli would be penalised unfairly.
Rob130290 2 years ago
Yeah i understand all that, but if a driver goes off the track as Trulli did, Hamilton is entitled to pass him even under waved yellows. What stinks about the whole incident tho is Mclaren were trying to get clarification from Charlie Whiting, the radio transmissions showed Hamilton knew the rules but his team didnt, so why would the race director ignore repeated requests for clarification? That doesnt make any sense, and whatever way you look at it, it seems slightly suspicious.
bmk139 2 years ago
As a reference, at Fujji 07 Massa was given a drive thru penalty after he spun behind the safety car, then re-took his position under waved yellow flag. That was exactly what Trulli did, so Hamilton did nothing wrong.
