The AK is Literally almost indestructible. They, (Russian Military) have proven this by driving a tank over the gun multiple times and it still fired. (Not accurately mind you) but still shot.

The problem with the Ak-47 is when it is fired full auto it is very uncontrollable and there fore inaccurate. The Ak-47 is a piston operated weapon. The M-4 is gas operated and has the gas tube. These gases are what blow the bolt back but also get the bolt extremely dirty, and hot. This is why i own an M-4 but a non gas operated one. I own a piston operated M-4 made by LWRC. It's great you get everything of an M-4 just piston operated instead of gas. Ruger has just released one also. Not as good
@stanslie not entirely, I have fired a H&K MP-5 at a shooting range once and was able to fire it controllably at 5-round bursts. The MP-5 is an SMG, and the 9x19mm bullets don't nearly have as much recoil as the AK-47's powerful 7.62x39 ammo. I fired an AK-47 too, and it had the most recoil I've ever experienced in a assault rifle.
If it where then end of the world and I could choose one gun to take with me, it would be the AK-47 or the Ak-74. I just put money down on an AK-47 and I pick it up in a week. I am going to turn it into the most kick ass gun in my collection.
@Jetman123 i think you would be talking about an M16A1. the first test rifles issued in VN. man, those would jam so much that soldiers actually picked up AK's.
The m-16 is the more accurate out of the two. The ak's round is heavier and slower, compared to the lighter faster m-16. M-16 has accuracy and the ak has penetration.
ak are far more reliable in the field. And you can field strip them as you walk if you have to.
How much rounds can fire ak47 before it breaks ?

i meant an M-4 with out hte gas tube. Your right they are still gas operated but there is no gas tube that leads back into the chamber

It's a very good assault rifle but i think it's too long for CQC, i'd prefer M4,Mp5,AK74U,Famas,... you know, smgs or bullpup type rifles.

If you keep the m16 clean and use good ammo it shouldnt jam, and they are alot more accurate then the ak. I know cause I own both.

@jump2it8428 It USED to. Now it's fairly reliable. The AK still beats in in that department, but it doesn't jam on every other shot like it used to.
Originally the fouling problems were due to a lack of cleaning kits, improper ammo and a non-chromed barrel. They're all fixed now.
If you want to talk unreliable piece of crap, try the SA-80 ten years ago (and still somewhat today).

my friend tells me ak is very crude, the barrel does bend when fireing and the sights are inacurate, they are a bit heavier.
from gaming experience i used the ak anyday but i guess the games dont mean anything haha!
though ak does use heavier bullets
