yes thankyou for warning people, but vish why would i report a ads and scams in your stay safe section if the scammers are loading the fake web pages constantly and continuously, surely thats your job to remove these listings and keep us safe as they are so very common, or pay someone to do it as you can afford to advertise on uk tv telling us how good gumtree is.

gumtree is a joke!! If they really cared about scams put a link warning people on every ad!! They wont do this because they think it makes their already tarnished site look bad. I have news for you scam-tree is a laughing joke no one trusts the site management t are incompetent!

Why not make Gumtree sellers Buyers and sellers register?Why not make them use a 3rd party transaction agent like paypal too transfer money?This will stop the scammers and thieves who use Gumtree as a Fencing outlet.Gumtree will never get the confidence of users like ebay has until it becomes regulated.its currently a thieves paradise.I would never buy anything using the site! I recommend anyone using this site to be very careful, if it all goes wrong, Gumtree won't help you,your on your own!!!!

I don't know who they think they are!!! They keep on deleting my adds without even bothering to send an email saying what did I do wrong. Moreover, they restrict your usage of their site, so that you can't post an add anymore. I am NOT A SCAMER!!! treat your users with respect gumtree! and give people explanation of their "wrong doing" before blocking them. I've never known anything like it!

Err.. paypal DO hold funds.

There's been quite a few times where paypal have put my funds on hold when I've sold an electronic item (like an Xbox 360) and my payment is not released until they receive confirmation of delivery (feedback, royal mail delivery confirmation etc.)

Not sure where you got the idea from that they don't, because they most certainly do.

i 'part-exchanged' a phone on gumtree about a week ago and i just got an e-mail and he's saying the phone has battery issues (the battery is fine) and the phone is in warranty, he said he's gonna take 'official' action....can he do anything because he agreed to the phone, i let him use it before we swapped and he agreed.

Best way to stay safe on gumtree.com is never to use it in the first place! I should know as we get all there unhappy customers and the police ringing us as they will not create a decent helpline service..........

Do you know how many times scammers have contacted me or how many scam ads there are on Gumtree!!...but still a decent service with me been able to find stuff on there much cheaper than eBay.

Actually Pay pal do hold funds ! They do with ebay when you are a new seller to protect buyers , so think on !

I've sold stuff on ebay, funds never got put on hold.

Maybe you're talking about the e-check process?

Paypal may hold funds if there is a dispute of some kind in resolution center i think.
