Not even close to stevie!!!! He doesnt play it like Stevie in the beginning either. And theres just no dAMN EMOTION. wHAT A MOCKERY!!!!! sTEVIE POURED HIS EMOTION INTO HIS GUITAR!!!
Kenny Wayne is a Phenom. He could play like this (and write songs like Born With a Broken Heart and Deja Voodoo) when he was only 16 years old and has only continued to improve.
People amaze me, when slamming current musicians by comparing them to previous ones. Kenny Wayne is talented, and he slowly developed his style. John Mayer - talented. Derek Trucks - talented. There's nothing wrong with being influenced by a previous artist. You don't hear people saying Stevie was just a Jimi clone. I forgot Popa Chubby - talented. Enjoy the music, because afterall, it just is what it is. It's not a battle of the bands highschool pissing contest.
@6gentex actually you do hear people saying stevie is a jimi clone.. those people are called jealous... and they're in the same group as JM and KWS haters
@puffinonindo It's really a shame for them. They spend so much wasted time and energy on negativity when they could be enjoying the music. Oh well, better them than us!
And thinking, that every good performing guitar player just wants to be SRV is even funny... in a way. Like "Forrest Gump". Funny, but still very sad.
I used to hate KWS back in the 90's, I thought I was only 18 year old kid playing Stevie ray Vaughan songs at a time when there was a feeling a great loss in the blues world and I used to day dream filling that void and he comes out of nowhere. I guess it's not that hard to achieve that level of success as a 18 year old when your dad is a high ranking music executive and puts the world in your hands.

He is a really nice guy and a great player. But unfortunately, he borrows too much from SRV. He has been written off as a clone as a result. There are probably 10, 000 people in the world that copy Stevie's stuff just as good. Why not try to get your own sound?
@wmc1103 Kenny's stuff impresses non-musicians. It is simple penta-tonic blues licks. You know? Root, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th? Not hard to play a bunch of recycled blues licks over a I, IV, V progression. Especially when it was already all written for you ahead of time on Texas Flood and Couldn't stand the Weather.
@guitarthroat Well I guess you include Hendrix , Vaughn and 99 percent of all rock and blues guitarists in your assessment. BTW Mr. Musician, it's the MINOR pentatonic scale you're talking about, and that would consist of 1, b3, 4, b5, b7 and throw in the 5 for the "blue note" . BB King made a career out of playing those notes in ONE position, the aptly named "BB king box". Playing chromatic 32nd note riffs at 180BPM has to be incredibly difficult but I wouldn't do it if I could.
@guitarthroat Well, there's John Mayer. He's the current clone cashing in on Stevie's stuff. Then there was Chris Duarte. He was cashing in BIG TIME about 2 years before Kenny Vaughan Wannabe was around. So there's 2 known ones. I see shit loads of unknown players doing it.
-You don't have to have a good idea to make a million dollars. You just have an idea that a million stupid people will buy. And from how you are talking, you sound like one of them.
@guitarthroat the fact you named those 2 says enough, albeit Chris is damn good. wipe the egg off your face, and read this: no one alive can do what Kenny does on the guitar. period. you just dont get it. i should give you specifics, but i'll make you wait. while you're waiting train your ear, deepthroat.
@guitarthroat lol. John Mayer is a "clone cashing in on Stevie's stuff"? Name me one SRV song that Mayer ever put on a CD except "Lenny" that was a bonus on "Room for Squares". And on your quote...If you have an idea that a million people will buy, you'll make a million dollar on that. So...if following your logic it would make an idea good. There, common sense, feel free to use it.
Woah! that is actually quite amazing.. not that far away from SRV

Just noticed he's playing his '58 hardtail Strat. I think he said its the best sounding strat he's played.
Wish Fender would bring back the American hardtail. I block my trem like Clapton does, but a hardtail would be nice.

This is called 'To The Bone' not 'So Excited' It's a KWS instrumental. It sounds like So Excited because it incorporates every SRV lick in the song.
