Hi everyone. Check out my new video, ‘Eighties Christmas Timeline’! It’s me playing a medley of Eighties Christmas songs on Keyboards. This song is in there!
Always has reminded me if my first Christmas with my husband. I cried cause we was too poor for a Christmas Tree and he took his last 20 dollars and bought me a dollar store tree and was putting it together when I came home from work. I still have that tree and the rag doll angel we used on top. :)
My Christmases weren't exactly this way but I love this song. It makes me think back to when I was growing up. My Mom was a single parent and she did what she could to make our Christmases special.
Nothing is hilarious about this song because it's a sad and true fact that Miser Scrooges exist in so many rich people worldwide. Look up on YouTube this Christmas episode made by Disney called "Mickey's Good Deed". This episode really touches me showing how one poor person can make a big difference for a very poor family during Christmastime,
@cartermoulton LOL! In general, that's what they wanted back then. My dad said they were lucky if they got a fresh orange and a candy cane. I'll bet they appreciated it, too.
This song has always made me think of the less fortunate around the holidays, I was less fortunate for many years but was able to turn around, I was lucky, others arent as lucky. This song should be dedicated for all the people who are struggling and dont have anything
I have never been to Kentucky, but even in Massachusetts as a girl there were years we could relate to this song and my mom always made the best gifts and tree ornaments, still making them now even if i don't have to and always have likes Kenny Rogers music
I heard this song in a store today and had to come look it up. I grew up in eastern Kentucky. I come from 4 generations of coal miners so I can really relate to the idea of the mine being shut down and how hard it is to make it. For those here from Richmond, I just wanna say hi since I went to Berea. I really mis the Blue Grass (esp this time of year)
I heard this song played in a store today and I had to come look it up. I grew up in eastern Kentucky. I come from 4 generations of coal miners. So, I understand about the mines being shut down. And to those guys posting here from Richmond. My wife and I went to school at Berea. I really really miss the Blue Grass State (esp this time of year) Go Cats!
There is nothing quite Christmas in Kentucky. There is no place in the world like Kentucky. People can insult us all we want, call us backwards, or inbred, we are not. Our state is so much more than College Basketball, Throughbred Race Horses, and Whiskey. I am proud of my Kentucky roots, Mama was from Winchester and Dad was from Irvine, I grew up in Richmond. To this day I miss my beloved home state. If heaven ain't a lot like Kentucky I don't wanna go.
@torchwoodjackharknes Agreed 100%. My family has been here in Kentucky for generations. I love this state. I grew up on a farm outside of Elizabethtown in Cecilia. My mom and aunt grew up in Taylorsville. My grandma in Somerset. Kentucky is heaven.
This song is my all time favorite Christmas song. It has been since I was a little girl. We always play this CD first while decorating our house for Christmas. Some where along the shuffle the CD got lost, so my dad bought us (but specifically for me) a new copy. It doesn't truly feel like Christmas until I hear this song. Talk about nostalgia!

Can someone help me Please, I've been trying to five the song by Kenny that he did in 1981 "Kids Kids Christmas is for kids" these are just some of the words. I would really appreciate any & all help.
I grew up listening to this album, When I got married I went and bought it for myself. Many years have past and I lost the album somewhere over time. My Dad is from Kentucky and I am one one 9 kids my parents had, so yes I can so much relate to this song. We were poor but we always had a lot of love in our home.... love you Daddy!!!!
i grew up to this christmas album when i was a kid. my brother being of special needs has always loved kenny rogers, this is his favorite to listen to at christmas, kenny rogers is pretty awesome.
Oh, this brings back memories! But it is kind of ironic, though. For instance; my family's upper class and well; we're from Australia, so we can't really relate to this song. But I grew up Lutheran, so I guess my parents wanted to have a selection of music to bring in the festive season. It's a good Christmas song. I'm having a sense of nostalgia. Haha.
growing up poor, We definitely connected to this song every christmas. My mother made it seem like we were rich everytime the holidays came!! Kenny Rogers represented for ALL races of people!! I love this so much, I can smell the cookies baking now!!
ive known all the lyrics to this song since i was 3 years old. mom always used to play it on the casette player! lol (i dont know if you all remember what that is!! lol) Memories of my childhoood just nowww :D
i heard thus song when i was just barely reaching the age to where i was being able to remember things and though i never lived in KY, id like to. This song is so great and amazing that it was able to stick to me ever since i was able to walk and i know it isnt christmas but i like listening to this song whenever a little hope is needed:j thanks Rogers.

You know, last Christmas things were tight with the kids, the bills, pay cuts and furlough days...and around the holidays I spent two months worried that we weren't going to get a Christmas for the kids. Luckily, a little sweat went a long way, and we managed to have one thanks to a lot of long nights and corner cutting..but this song was on the album my wife put on and I had to step outside for a bit...you know, to get something out of my eye. Still rough in some parts of the Bluegrass...
I grew up in a small town in eastern KY and no two story house or 2 week vacations, but so much love in our small home and Christmas just gave us the opportunity to share that love more. KY people are the best. We believe in family, love, kindness, helping out those that need it, share what you have. I live in Florida and have sine 83 and mommy is in heaven, so can never really go home, but can go back to my beautiful KY and her great people. Merry Christmas and yes it was a gift from God.
This song is soooo real! my mom was a single parent with 4 kids and she always played this song for us and somehow someway she made Christmas happen for us!! Love you mom!
I really don't see what is hilarious about a man who is trying to make a nice Christmas for his family. Some of us weren't handed everything on a silver platter. You might want to listen to it again and actually try and get the true meaning of the song.
How many people this christmas is like this song can't buy there little angels there gift that there want? Now in AMERICA that happened every day now there are worked 80 hours awork!
Many enjoy this album and this song specifically (it was included on the "best christmas" cd a few years ago). I listen to this album every year and will do so forever, no matter where in the world I am at Christmas. I wouldn't go anywhere without having a portable cd player so I can listen:)
I agree with you my friend. I too was raised in Kentucky, Richmond, to be exact. Life has taken me far from my childhood home. That being said you can never take Kentucky out of the man.
It is nice to find fellow Kentuckians here. I am from Richmond, and this time of year in most particular I find I miss the beautiful rolling hills, the brown water of the Kentucky River, Ale-8-One, and mostly, my family that still lives in Kentucky.
That's very cool that someone else has enjoyed this. Yeah, Christmas memories...
I also associate this song (and the whole album) with decorating the Christmas tree. My mother was a big Kenny Rogers fan. I have been putting Christmas songs up on my blog and searched YouTube for this song (or any KJ w/o Dolly Parton). Since it wasn't here, I figured I would add it myself.
I listen to it every Christmas with my family while we are decorating the tree but this year I wont be there so it's really nice to be able to listen to it and think back at all the wonderful years and how much fun I've had while listening to it!!
hey christmas is not bout who gets what! enjoy the holidays with family(while their alive)

Grandma, grandpa an' all the others
