Ummm... not that guy's deck. Just in general. Faerie's favor has allowed affinity a brief comeback. It's pretty much unheard of again since the combo decks are back on the rise again.
Last I checked, Magic was created first, and Yu-Gi-Oh was based off of Magic. So..... does that make Yu-Gi-Oh, as you put it: "gay"? Regardless, enjoy your card game, we will enjoy ours.
Isn't Soul's Fire just so much better than Fatal Frenzy? Or... Okay, Frenzy gives trample, and so i can see them both having a valid point in getting played instead of the other, but from here, Soul's Fire just seems better.
Nice adding Atog though, It is just awesome with, yes, Fatal Frenzy and/or Soul's Fire.
Lastly, I enjoyed your PT Berlin Previews. I haven't watched any of your videos before but when Evan Erwin hinted about you on The Magic Show, i couldn't resist checking you out. Nice :)
I think fatal frenzy is better. In situation when u have fe. arcbound worker with plating and 5 another artefacts, so worker is 8/1 and u attack. Your opponennt can block with 0/1 BoP. With souls fire u dealt only 8 damage, but with fatal frenty u dealt 15 damage.
There are so many cards that are so good against Affinity... Ancient Grudge; Shattering Spree; Kataki, War's Wage; and Hurkyl's Recall are all very effective. Not to say that Affinity can't defend itself and succeed (it is obviously one of the fastest attack decks, and the only one with Thoughtcast), but its linear speed is balanced by the amount of anti-artifact in the format.
Regardless of Mike's intention. By Not playing Master of Etherium or even mentioning it in the video, it's almost making an endorsement for choosing frenzy build over Master build.
I would at least mention the alternative and leave the choice open.
I mentioned him in the article on Top Decks. Honestly I didn't want to pilfer a Premium Master of Etherium deck list without permission, and I think Gavin's deck is very good (having tested extensively against it at the end of last season). So there was definitely a preference, at least based on levels of familiarty, though not an endorsement (not intended, anyway).
flores has to be the most wise player ever known to this game...there are some wise people out there when it comes to magic, but i will always to to listen to flores
I would like to see what you think on the Chromatic Star vs Springleaf Drum. Is the draw from the Star really worth not having the explosive starts that the Drum gives?
Also... I agree with Alicabob. You did the same with the red deck, when you chose to show its power against a casual/rogue mono blue mill deck, why won't you post real decktesting matchups (red deck vs Fae, 5Color or even Merfolk for exemple).
Also... Atog is great and all... why didn't you even considered Master of Etherium for its slot? Although it costs one more mana it doesn't force you to lose any board advantage for it to be huge. And the artifact pumping is also nice.
In regards to your second question, there are a couple of reasons:
I am not trying to sell decks necessarily but show why someone might play them. I took a lot of footage of long back-and-forth games, but those don't really show what a deck "does" but how a deck might play. At least in the pre-Berlins, I am trying to show the basics of operation.
As to your first, I have both cards, though only 3 Stars. If you play Shrapnel Blast or potentially Salvage Titan, Star and Terrarion go up in value.
I can see your perspective, but on the other hand, it might teach you not to stumble v. a deck of Affinity's caliber. For these I am just trying to show a little game play not really sell through the deck. This set is designed to be included in Top Decks as part of an article rather than stand-alone videos.
I don't think it shows how good a deck by beating a guy that gets mana screwed. I would have posted a game where my opponent actually played some spells.

So has affinity made a comeback? It seems like it has. I mean, there have been some decent placings if I am not mistaken.

Comeback ? Not without artifact lands.

If Mirrodin is suddenly 1/9th of Extended, how is raffinity not the best deck by default?
I guess there's shattering spree. Can affinity support maindeck Stifle?
GenericKen000 3 years ago
btw, vs kataki, could raffinity support Mogg Fanatic?

It might also help to explain what lands and how many you are using.

I wasn't trying to innovate here - As I said in the video, I basically morphed Sam Stein's deck to more of Gavin Verhey's.
These are intended to be illustrative videos for a PT overview.
Personally, I think Master of Etherium is pretty good.
