  • This song as well as the Lp "Captain Fantastic"saved a fifteen year old boys life in 1975,ME...THANK YOU ELTON JOHN!!! you are truly FANTASTIC!!!!

  • another favorite from a great album. just listen to the words, they all make sense, not like all the crap we have to wade through today.

the summing up of the music business is truly awesome.

  • This one song must have played with my headphones so many times. This just feels right! Elton and Bernie ruled the 70's.

  • I love this song so much. I used to listen to this album over and over and can still remember where each little crackle of static was on my album. Elton's voice gives me goosebumps. I am so grateful to have grown up listening to him.

  • This deserves to be one of his really famous ones, its amazing!!!

  • 3:35 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best of elton's work. just incredibe voice

  • The many looks & faces of Elton spanning an incredible & unprecedented 40 year career, & showing no signs of slowing down. That deserves & commands respect. Thanks Elton, I couldn't imagine the music biz without you.

  • You know, they use to call James Brown the hardest working man in show business. Not taking anything away from James, but I'm sorry, Elton's definitely got em beat. I mean this man's career & accomplishments have just been fucking stellar, as chronicled in this montage. What a forty some year performance!!!!!!!!

  • what a riff! a simple major scale

  • The " King of pop" label to you know who is a joke! If the King of Pop isn't Paul Mcartney it's ELTON JOHN!

  • Talent par excellence !

  • Love you Elton , you are truly 'The Queen of Rock' !

  • Thanks for the variety of pictures... some I have never seen.

  • great song and groovy music. nice statement by bernie in this song. churn em out thick and fast.

pop mainstream was their forte for a long time, i applaud this song for thumbing their noses at the heirachial music executives.

    thanks for the posting

  • great song great words by bernie and fantastic music well sung by elton

  • the title should be sweet fingers as no-one plays the piano like elton he is a genious

  • You did a fabulous job of putting this together with all the pics! I love it!!! Elton is my all time favorite....he does have GOD given talent and I love Capt. Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album!!

  • 1975. It seems as if it were yesterday. Time really flies when you're busy, and having fun. The soundtrack of my youth.

  • This is just Awesome Talent, a God Given Gift

    I N C R E D I B E

  • Never understood why this tune did not get more airplay on radio along with Grimsby from this Caribou LP.

  • Grimsby was on the Caribou album. Bitter Fingers is on the Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album.

  • Elton is the fuckin king, simple as that

  • The fact is there is a 1975 concert promo of the album included in the anniversary edition cd couple years ago.and being a longtime fan of Elton and Bernie i know he used to like filming everything they do(musically of course) and i hope that video this concert or part of it appears in someway in the net for the satisfaction of his fans. regards from Peru.

  • I've got two videoclips of this album one was a short rendition of "better of dead" and the other was "someone saved my life tonight" but i think must be a video from the concert promo of Captain Fantastic just as bonus in audio by now for his anniversary edition album a couple of years ago.I just hope the video of this concert someday in some way available.

  • In one way you are right but if you make a review in youtube about how many Elton tv appearances before the Captain Fantastic Album and after the next one Rock of the Westies you'll realize he didn't care to make a promo of those albums because i think they both are at the top however i recall there are just two songs from Captain i saw Elton "better of dead" and Someone saved my life tonight" but what about his biographicall and main song from the album title? captain Fantastic?

  • Oh c'mon no one have the original video clip of the whole album where this comes from? one of the thing i never forgive Elton is about his amount videos of his nonsense era (80's and forward) and the videos of this great Captain Fantastic when his voice was fantastic .....not todays......

  • Given that this was released way before the age of MTV, there was never an official video shot of this, or any other song on Captain Fantastic. Even if there had been, this song was never released as a single to necessitate a video to promote it.

  • @MyRickyz Sorry jackass but I disagree. I think Elton's vocals were best from 1978-1984.

  • I always hated Elton never released an original promovideos from his captain fantastic great album.

  • always one of my favorites off this album. There's not a bad song on the whole thing!

  • This entire album is excellent. He was great before he became a sellout.

  • I have such great respect for EJ and B Taupin. Those guys wrote a virtually uninterrupted string of brilliant songs during most of the 70's. This album and this song are among my favorites, and I remember deriving great joy from listening to them as a kid. They sound as good now as they did then. Thanks for posting.

  • Great! ;D

  • Yet another under-rated song by Elton. BTW, he has almost as many different looks as Madonna...

  • Still know the words after all these years---bought this the day it came out--I was a teenybopper mad for Elton! LOVE HIM!

  • I agree....the obscure ones are the hidden treasures, cuz we didn't hear them on the radio, but loved them anyway, and thus are the ones we jump for joy when we discover again----thanks to the internet!! HOORAY!!

  • I agree, all the forgotten or under rated gold nuggets from the 70s. only just bought Madman, hadnt heard Razor Face Rotten Pches or Holiday Inn SINCE 70S, WOW ITS LIKE HE RELEASED A NEW ALBUM.

  • love the drums

  • Great tavern song.

  • My favorite "obscure' EJ song.

  • his best album...

  • @worm60 Hi

How many EJ albums have you got?

  • Great song and even greater album.

Bernie and Elton at their best.

  • Captain Fantastic,Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,Caribou,Don't Shoot Me...all gems.

  • honkey chateu .. cant forget that one!

  • It's about song writing and the preasure the music industry puts on the artists.

"those old die-hards on Denmark Street start laughing on the keyboard players hollow haunted eyes"

Denmark Street is a street in London where lots of record labels have their offices.

"it seems to me a change is really needed" because they want to write the songs THEY like and not what their boss expects them to write.

"I'm stick of tra-la-las and la-de-das" means that they want to write more profound songs...

  • Miniermoeet you are very correct..

  • This was his best album and at least one of the top ten in pop history.

A genuine masterpiece of Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

  • who still has the two little comic book inserts? I do. My dad threw them out from my first copy but I found another set at a garage sale. Love it. :)

  • I still have them....There were two in the album, one with lyrics and more of those strange paintings; the other was a scrapbook with photos and an actual comic book telling the story of Elton's life to that point. You don't see that stuff anymore...

  • This is my favorite Elton John Song.

    BTW I'm 21.

  • me too

  • I'm only 20 :(

  • mine too.

    & i'm fourteen.

  • I've been sort of Re-listening to this whole album lately and I'm amazed at the things I missed or didn't appreciate when I 1st got it as a teen.

P.S. Has anyone else noticed EJ is giving the photographer the middle finger at 3:17?

  • i AGREE BUT SO GOOD TO REVISIT AND REDISCOVER

  • Listening to this album for me brings back some childhood memories..I never get fed up with listening to EJ's classic albums from the 70's.

  • Nice choice of song

The last pic is REALLY SWEET!

  • awesome

  • EJ has no equal when it comes to singing balads. His heart and soul and the spirit of Bernie cannot be denied.
