Ah yes, this intro brings me back. Watched Kung Fu when it was in syndication. Had to get up pretty early in the morning on a Saturday (6:00 or 7:00 AM i believe) to watch it on TNT.
Several people have posted about Bruce Lee being in the role of David Carradine. In actuality, the series was loosely based on Bruce Lee and a chapter in his life where he was unable to return to Honk Kong because of an incident.
From what I recall: He was at a party, about 3 or 4 British sailors showed up and a fight ensued. One of the guys pulled a knife, Lee killed him and then fled. The Limey was related to someone high up and Lee was a wanted man for some number of years.
What still boggles me is how the dragon tattoo never lasted after he emigrated to the states. Gotta have been the change of air - or something to that effect
This series was originaly developed thinking of Bruce Lee (Chinesse-american) as the central caracter, but 'cause of studio policy, the part was given to David Carradine (an American). It was a very good series 'cause of the misticism that made us realize that all things are connected, but maybe... just maybe, it would been more credible with Bruce. Don't you think?
I don't know pan68. But go to the right of this screen and click on the post of this Intro by 'creativelocation' - it's a longer version of this one here. It's believed that it was written by a Jim (James) Helms and perhaps that will help you in your search.
Even though both are basically the same Kung Fu intro's, yank mates who actually saw the programme when it originally aired in American said the version posted on the right side of this page by youtuber "creativelocation" is what they remember best. Cheers!
I saw the original broadcasts here in California. This was one of the openings. They had at least two different intro's. They also edited them for syndication. This post is edited, I think. It's been a long time since I've seen the full version.
Go to the one "bugle" mentions below and is also show at the right of the screen from creativelocation. From what people say, that's the long and better version.
@shoufimafi64 I totally disagree. Kung Fu was originally Bruce Lee's concept. He would have brought a legitimacy to the show, seeing as he's actually Chinese and a martial artist. Lee was a excellent actor too. He would have been awesome. The very spirit that Carradine embodies was Lee's. Kung Fu was NOT non-violent. Caine avoided fighting but not at all cost. He got into a fight and kicked somebody's ass in every single episode. But just like Lee, he knew when the time to fight was.
@shoufimafi64 "It was a non violent movie, and Lee would have made it more brutal and aggressive."
I've been saying that for years. With all due respect to Lee, David Carradine made this show, and he WAS the character. Same thing with Kill Bill as well. Without him, it would NOT have been the same at all.
America = Is CONTINENT that extends from TIERRA DEL FUEGO, ARGENTINA near the South pole ALL THE WAY UP THE LAST ALUTIAN ISLAND IN ALASKA THIS AMERICA.. AMERICANS
hollywoodhottie19, Thanks for the geography factoid. Though, technically, what you are describing is referred to as 'the America's'. North and south. Ultimately, what is your point?
asshole. look at the map, mexico and canada are on north america, that mean that those people are americans too, anyway, it's a shame to be or act like an american idiot... : )
YEAAAAH. You're the one replying constantly. Why don't you just make that midnight run over the border once and for all. It's obvious, you're jealous of us americans or as you call us....gringos but you're desparate...so carry on.
since it's clear that I made an easy hit to your "ego" or what's left of it, you should do the right thing and bow out while you still have what little dignity you still have.
whaaaaat!!!! did your grandma meet to david carradine ??? that´s so great... well just if it´s real what you are saying, please confirm that and I´ll believe you please
Loved this show as a kid. Still have the gum cards somewhere.

A graphic portrayal of the orignal oriental Western. It amuses me that Kane travelled faster from town to town on foot than on horseback.

Does any one knows the uncut version of the intro track? Maybe on vinyl or CD?

It's also where people are saying it sounds a lot like the main melody in Steve Vai's song For the Love of God. Including me.

Why do you guys keep saying Bruce Lee would have made the show even better?
Bruce lee would have made the show more realistic when it comes to fighting, but no way would have kept the poetic aspect of this series.
Who remembers KungFu for the quality of the fights? not me!
I liked it because of the calm, serenity of the caracters and the "avoid fighting at any cost" thread beneath it.
It was a non violent movie, and Lee would have made it more brutal and aggressive.
shoufimafi64 2 years ago 11
@shoufimafi64
bullshit. stop talking.

to lbrinthetruth1.
I'm not talking,
I'm writing!
Btw, I like Bruce Lee a LOT! I've seen all his movies, but somehow I still think he would have made the Kung Fu series less poetic.
And whay not do as I have: I bought the full Kung-Fu series, all seasons, and I watch this with my 12 year old boy.
Brings me 30+ years back
And lbringthetruth1-hopper. Remain calm and avoid using agressive language, when you can, it will be time for you to leave...
