  • i have the holga 120 CFN and i use this film but the pics dont came out because i really don´t know and im afraid to used again but i really want ot used

  • very awesome!

  • Do you these pictures turn out like this on a normal 35mm film? Or do they have to be expired for the lomography effect? :S

Secondly, what program did you use to edit your video, it truly is a great vid. :)

    Thanks.

    x

  • @Stripy67 just put in the 35 and shoot away, be sure to ask for uncut negatives.

    i use FCP.

    thx much!

  • @rockmusicarocks One suggestion though: learn to process film, it's a good skill to have, and with b&w film, it's rather easy.

But, I'd suggest starting with a Holga 120N or Holga 35mm, one reason being that, most 1 hour photo places process 35mm film only and not 120mm. 120 has to be sent to out to be processed (the photos are still great either way). But, make sure that you can afford lomography, film isn't expensive, but in bulk, after a while, it is.

    Cheers!

  • Amazing song and amazing photos. I'm glad there's still this kind of talent out there. Keep up the good work, mate.

  • @jamieboyrockon thanks kindly!

  • Can you get this similar effect with the Diana mini?

  • do you develope the film yourself, if i dont have a darkroom where can i get them developed?

  • @guttyhopskin anywhere just ask for uncut negatives

  • @rockmusicarocks I think the word you are looking for is DSLR?

  • Great work man, love 35mm on holga. I'll be picking up my first 35mm roll via holga in a little bit, can't wait to see what I got!

  • What kind of film do you recommend for b/w aswell color... thanks !

  • @rockmusicarocks yes thats the sprocket holes.

shooting with these toy cameras can be tricky or trial & errory(?) but its not hard.

these are all processed by machine at target so yes, i would say absolutely get a holga!

  • kudos on the images and the soundtrack

  • Ah, 35mm in a Holga? produces some pretty awesome images I must say...very fun camera :P

  • How can one not like this video. Makes my Holga feel like a professional camera :) Excellent music!

  • great video and great music too!!!

  • sorry im trying to get into lomography but i have no idea how the 35mm film or the 120 work, im tryign to get the holga 135bc but will my pictures come out with the little holes in the sides like yours?!

  • Yes, if you use 35mm film (called 135 in photography) in a Holga 135BC, you won't have to worry about the sprocket holes.

Those come from using 135 film in a camera meant for 120.

  • are these scans directly from the film?

  • nice pictures, which song is it?

  • @theholfish one of my original tunes

  • the word is holgarhythms ... peace!

  • Can you bring the 35 mm. Film to any semi-profesh/drugstore lab?

  • Sure. For the film develop there's no problem. If you want print it on paper it's more complex... The semi-automatic paper printer of the lab cannot print all the film surface (with the perforation).

  • So when you use 35MM film for a holga the film IS the pic? Awesome.

  • ridicuolusly fantastic pictures

  • what song is used at the start of the video?

  • hi, i was just wondering what film i should use to take black & white pics on a holga

  • fomapan 400 is good quality and not to pricey off lomography . com

  • I use ilford-delta 400.

  • Hi, just wondering how you did the photos with the holga? did you use a special lense? and are they all printed or still on the negatives? Im planning to get diana+ but, holga seems more interesting

  • hiya, its just a holga with a broken flash.

these werent printed they are scans/ thx !

  • to use 35 mm film you have to change the camera up a bit (so that the film will fit properly) but other than that its the same

  • i reccomend holga over diana+

holga is used more worldwide and even by professionals.

  • The Diana is also used worldwide by professionals... and it's a great instrument for art students :)

  • okay so i've been playing around with my holga on and off for about a year now. when i first got it, i used the 120 film it came with, searched all over long island for places that would develop it and found one little pharmacy that did it for like 10 bucks - good deal, except its a hassle to order film in bulk online... okay so i modified my holga to use 35mm film and for some reason the shots are all blown up WAY too big. is there something i'm missing?

  • no thats just the way it behaves with 35.

an identical camera (ie same model holga)

would likely provide a different result too.

    they are pretty finicky.

    and plastic.

  • :T because none of them come out :( it sucks theyre like a portion of the picture i took lol :\

  • o, i know whats happening.

you are having the 35 developed, and printed, right?

    ur doin it rong, lol!

tell them you want UNCUT NEGATIVES ONLY.

    NO PRINTS.

then you need to scan the negatives on a modified flatbed scanner(remove the filmstrip holder)

so you can scan all the lovely sprocket perf.

    hope this helps!

  • When you say "blown up" do you mean as if you had zoomed in as compared with when you shot 120?

If so that's because the lens is a 60 mm, which is wide for medium format but when you use 35mm it's a little more magnification that a traditional normal lens on a 35. If you shot the same thing from the same distance in both formats you'd find that it was the same size but the 35 is "cropped", i.e. the background is cut out. anyway enjoy the holga, I just got 2 of them (one is a WPC) and love them!

  • did you use flash for most (if not all) of these shots? I'm having trouble with mine.. even in daylight the shots are too dark to develop ):

  • actually the flash on mine was broken within about two days, LOL.

no none of these used the flash, what speed film are you using?

  • Its 35mm, 200 speed.

  • I love those pics

    seems like a small movie

    there're moving!!!!

  • does the negative(for a normal color negative film) come out in normal colors like yours after processing it?

or are you using a special kind of processing/software?

  • hi there, i havent done anything to these really, i imagine scanning them may affect the colors in some almost undetectable way, but as for processing, there are a few.

the orange shots @1:16 & 1:45 were tweeked, and teh playset has three copies that appear at the top that are colored, and of course the final cut transitions, but thats it.

  • i see. thanks a lot for your help. :)

  • i'm so envious of the sprocket holes.

i considered getting the 120 for that reason but i decided i'd be better off with the 135.

    anyways, lovely lovely video.

  • many thanks, you should get the 120 and put 35 into it, its VERY easy to do, then, you get the lovely perf!

  • awesome development and video editing!

what film ISO do you use?

which way do you place the film in?

after scanning the negative, how do you get it to look like normal colors?

    thanks so much!

  • hi thanks for your kind words and your question!

these are kodak and fuji 400.

i have them developed at the drugstore, neg only.

these are pretty much how they look, no photoshopping here, just final cut.

i elaborated on the few changes in a comment above also, thanks again and best regards!

  • hi how do you let the sprocket show in a picture?

  • Which brand is better for holga? :D

    do you use expire film?

  • i like fuji for 35, and ilford for 120

  • is this with a holga 120 or 135?

  • hi judojok, these were taken with a 120.

    best regards!

  • i shouldve known. i dont think the sprockets couldve shown if you used 135. what kind of film did you use for most of the pics? great job man! you just inspired me to buy a 120. =p

  • nice editing and photos

  • beautiful!!100%respect

  • I really dig your style, i want to get into lomo, so what kinda film did you use? and any mods to your holga?

  • hi,thx for your kind words. most of this is fuji400, but some kodak too.

check my other holga video which has more large format and x-proc.

also, no mods, except for the scratches obtained from discarding the lenscap!

  • It's awesome! I love your style of art!!! Respect!!!

  • muahaha, thx mate!

  • i really like it, how ever i am not sure the music suits the vid, i mean don't het me wrong, it is sweet music, simular to the kind i make, but seems a bit to dark and industrail. but still, good vid

  • what software do you use to write this music?

  • hi, its arranged with protools, the instruments are my circuit bent toy collection.

furbies, lazor guns, toy drums etc

    best regards!

  • awesome, man i love your beat

  • Super Fun!!!! Love it.....I just started playing with a Holga and I'm pretty impressed. I'm real into vintage cameras too. Yesterday I had to stop myself from buying everthing on ebay!

  • These pics are awesome, i wanna get involved.

I think the only question that hasnt been asked is: What model of scanner do you use to scan your negatives? and will it also do 120 film?

    Love your work Biggie

  • thx for your kind words!

i used an epson 99$ best buy scanner.

i throw away the frame thats sposed to hold the film in place, then tape the negs to the scanner.then scan at death resolution.

    best regards!

  • Sorry im not aware of $99 best buy's. I live in the UK.

what make and model of scanner do you have please?

  • hi there, its an epson v100 photo scanner.

  • Great! Holga fan M.

  • contact sheet

  • hi i also have a holga cfn

and im new to these cameras

im actually new to photography and really enjoy it

i was wondering how do i get my 35mm processed as shown in this video

    thank you all

and i hope i can be this goood sooon

  • 0:31 is soo beautiful!!!

    have you tried b&w?

  • hi yes, but not with much good result yet sadly.

if you look at my newer holga video theres some there.

    thx!

  • Niceeeeee :D

  • how many times should i wind the knob before taking a shot? since there is no indicator on the 35mm adaptor...

by the way my camera is 120 cfn...

    thanks...

  • hi, i usually turn between 30 and 35, depending on how sure i want to be that i will have a black border.

    best regards!

  • hey man this is amazing! ive got a fisheye2 and im going to get a diana+ soon to get the dreamy style you have in this vid.

can you tell me, with slide film, can the pictures be made into normal paper photos as with regular film or do they have to stay as projectable slides? i want to make large photos i can frame and keep some in an album.

  • hi and thx for your kind words, ya know im unsure about the print side of this.

none of the labs seem to be able to develop the sprockets, but i bet a more pro lab could easily do it.

    thx again!

  • this is sooo sooo soooo cool!!! i developed my first 35 on my 120 holga today. was a bit disappointed with it. not sure why the colors are a bit pale. yours are awesome!!! i love the over exposed colors!! after looking at your video i ran to the photo store across the street to get a roll of film and load into my holga again!!! thanks for posting such an inspiring video!!

  • bonbonyenbo,

    awesome!

thx for that! one thing to consider, some of these are slide film x-processed (c-41) which will give super saturated and contrasty colors!

    yay!

  • what do you mean by not cut your negatives? are'nt negatives in one long strip if you dont get them cut? what do you mean? please help.

i used up my first roll of 35 in my first holga today, and i dont know how i should get it deveopled i also need to take out the film in complete darkness first which i have to figure out where or how to do.

and also if a scanner can scan in slides, do you think it will work for negatives?

  • now comes the fun part!

thats correct, one big long strip of neg, uncut.

the frames youve shot are now much larger than they can develop on the automated machines they use.

u gotta go home and cut them by hand,ie; the pics will be wider and taller than normal 35mm, hence the cool perf exposure, lightleaks, vignetting, etc.

remove your film in a closet at night, your back to the door , lights off in room etc, no worries.

scanner question, yes indeed, thatl work but you remove the slide holder.

  • haha awesome! Thanks for the reply it helped a lot. Im going to pick up my negatives tomorrow.

  • howd they turn out?

  • Did you cross process your film?? I was told if I want to scan or print cross processed film, its very very expensive.

  • very good, I like music and photography is awsome

  • heyyy isint tht sports authority in long island?

btw whatd u use to edit the vid?

    awe inspiring..

  • hiya, thats a sports store in portland oregon actually.i used final cut pro to put this together.

    im glad u enjoyed it!

  • NICE.........

  • thx thx thx and thanks for commenting!

  • you have inspired me

  • hey thats what im talkin about!

    best regards!

  • Awesome pics/video!

  • hehe, glad u enjoyed it!

  • amazing.. i fave the pic at 00:45 :)

  • this is beyond cooL. awesome job.

    vive le holga!

  • those pictures are amazingggg.

now you just go and request a contact sheet to get them developed no?

and how many clicks do you use when you first load, and after?

    thanks :D

  • thx for that!

i used off the shelf 400 and developed at cosco!

just tell them not to cut the negatives, then scan em at death rez!

i usually just click about 35 clicks upon loading, then 30 -33 clicks for each exposure.

    best regards!

  • what kind of film did you use? and how did you have it developed? thanks.

  • Good question (please answer it!)

  • i want to, whats the question mate!?

  • what kind of film did you use? and how did you have it developed?

  • its fuji 400 from cosco hehe.

developed at cosco too, just be sure to tell them to not cut your negatives, then scan em.

    best regards!

  • hey ,grate movie, this inspired me to use 35mm in my 120 camera!

  • ok...so now i really made up my mind...im getting a holga den....

  • funny i see you have some pictures at a playground. thats where i went first to take pictures with my holga!

now ive just moved on to ...everywhere. =) great pictures btw. i wish mine turned out like that.

  • You have a very good eye for photography. Keep it up.

  • Love the photos and the music. Keep up the good work.

  • thanks for your kind words Laury!

  • your welcome, i already subscribed :-) PLease check my hummer H to the ho video. i also use final cut and a 360° lens.

  • right on, I look forward to checking that out when I get home.

    all the best!

  • superb pictures and awsome editing. Which editing software did you use?

  • is these all pictures?

i mean if i go to pic developers and develop 35mm, do i get normal size pics? ( sorry i don know anything about Photos)

  • Hi Kumaluv.

Yes they are all 35mm scans, these werent printed tho, neg only.

The lab does the neg, then i scan them.

When you shoot normal 35mm in a "normal" camera, it doesent expose the entire frame and perf, which is normal.

    normal is a great word.

  • Great!! I can't wait to start using my Holga... thanks for the inspiration...! The muzak is also befitting of the Holga images too...!

  • i am really glad that you enjoyed my video.

  • awesome shots! what brand of film did you use?

  • thanks so much jae.

its a mixed bag of x-processed fuji 200

and off the shelf (of cosco) fuji 400.

    all the best!

  • great film. really well made, great pics 2

  • thank you kindly!

  • nice i've just ade and shot a 70mm roll through holga but can't get prints so i'm going out to get a cheap scanner!

  • thanks hey id really like to see the results

    all the best!

  • great shots!!!!

  • How do you make the film rolls like that? Have you scanned them into your computer or what? I think it lokks amazing and very curious of how you did that..

    Jesper

  • Thanks for your kind words Jesper.

they are indeed scanned in,i use an off the shelf epson scanner from worst buy.

    thanks again!

  • Great stuff. My Holga and I are impressed.

  • thx mate!
