He almost always used the literal meaning, & only used a figurarive meaning in 1 verse. I'm not sure if it was one of his, or Bob Rivers, but one of them had verses that gave a balanced rpresentation of both. This version's still funny, but using the same literal meaning seems repetative, as opposed tp alternating w/ some figuratives. It was good he included the politcal one, but the other included one that said"..but some of it just aint worth SHAVING CREAM.....!

CLASSIC!! Listened to Dr.Demento every weekend nite (sunday I think) at midnite--Red Baron, verbusen, that song was great too!along with Happy Boy, and others. Thanks for the memories would love to find the Dr. these days..still listening to Weird Al keeps me weird..yeah!!

Weird Al is also one of the great comedians.

They both gave people a lot of joy through the years. I used to have a Panasonic boombox with reverse record, and timer clock, and it was set to record Dr D every week. I had many C-120 tapes, that mysteriously disappeared. Someone ripped them off of me - DAMMIT! My brother has a few reel to reel tapes of his show. Sure miss Dr D, RIP.

Thanks for lettin me know that, Barry Hansen aka Dr D is super. He is not on any local stations that I know of around here. I heard a rumor that he passed on. I am glad he is still going at it too. I will look him up, have not heard  his show in a while. That's great news!

I listened to Dr Demento in the mid 70's I was 9. Played this song every week and it was like the cat's meow cool to me as a 9 year old. I even got the 45 of it and played it during the week in between shows (this and Snoopy vs The Red Baron). I think he'd play it every week for the next 20 years, he milked that song for all it was was worth.....shit. "A baby fell out of the window, you'd think that it's head would be split, but good luck was with it that morning it fell in a big pile of....."

Weird Al got big thanks to Dr Demento, he sent him a tape of My Balogna (My Shirona parody), and the rest is history for Weird Al! Of course it took him a few years so I could definetly see him doing shows (on the acordian) with Dr. Demento who was reasonably big in the early 80's. He does say at the end it's Weird Al and his band playing.

They (Weird Al and his band) have imitated numerous bands and song styles of many super stars for many many years!

And Often they do it better than the actual stars themselves!! It's incredible what they do!!  Weird Al is amazing!

Actually, I think you're thinking of 'The Smoke Off' by children's author Shel Silverstein. :) He did recordings of his own writings...do a Google search and I'm sure it'll come up.
