When my parents grew up, most people would not allow a TV set in the house, because there were radical religious programs on that scared the children and caused them to have nightmares.
My wise grandmothers would not let my mom and dad listen to radio, because of the radical Preachers claiming the world was going to be destroyed by Jesus / God.

He was desperate to pay the debt from the Vietnam War which had escalated wildly under President Johnson (Nixon also ended the draft). Gold was worth $32 an ounce then and escalated sharply under President Carter. Today it is over $1000 an ounce, and the dollar has shrunk many, many times.
I've never known Mr. Lindsey to be correct.....he is always changing his interpretations........people who take a literal interpretation of the bible are lost
