5.2 is big. But it SOUND like we had an earthquake here...maybe we had some brief gusty winds." Because the wind always shakes the floor of a ground-level studio.
The weatherman is keeping his cool, trying to pretend that the earthquake doesn't bother him. That's perfectly fine, but keep in mind - this is a LOCAL broadcast. Which means that anyone watching this would ALSO be feeling the earthquake!
Would people experiencing an earthquake REALLY be paying attention to the weather forecast???
Nice job weather man. Asking the studio if there are some "brief gusty winds.?" Worthless local news. That is one of the many reasons I moved from the Southern Illinois/Indiana area. Complete idiots from even the people who are suppose to "inform" the public. Tells you how smart the public is!
This is ridiculous!, In Costa Rica when there is an earthquake, ALL stations stop doing what they are doing and scramble to give the NEWS right away, WHO THE HELL CARES IF IS GOING TO RAIN THIS EVENING if you can't make it to the next minutes rush hour back home?
I agree back in 1989 KGO-TV had to step in for ABC Sports and ABC News to tell the Nation that the Bay Bridge and the cypress freeway fell down and fires all over the bay area and landslides in Santa Cruz because of the quake. the whole nation did not give a shit on the World Series while they saw the Cypress freeway falling down
I agree. They play off what is happening, and then expect people to do the same. I was watching when this happened, and my lamps were rocking. I changed channels, because it was obvious byron put so much work into his forecast to cut to the real story. But, I have boycotted Fox8 because of Charlie Stocker, and his "segment", as well as their views on healthcare, so as long as nothing "groundbreaking" happens, I will stick with this station.
I know it sounds weird but I truly HATE when there's an earthquake and anchors try and act like there's nothing happening. Our weather girl in L.A. did that and it irked the hell out of you.
Tip: If I'm watching you, I can probably feel the quake too...chances are, i care more about that than the damn forecast!
Wow I saw some old Clips of Al Michaels Yelling Were Having an Earthquake on KGO-TV and ABC News. But I saw this 10 years after the Loma Prieta Quake. Here in CA were told to Duck if a Quake Happens.
@urbanr0cker what do you want the anchor to say ???????? Theres an eartquake, theres an earthquake, PANIC PEOPLE, PANIC.... just not.. at least not with a SMALL earthquake like that. I mean comon. Once the anchor says theres an earthquake going on he cant say anything else about it its not like he will get informations about it right away.
i live in owensboro..across the rive from the station where he was.. Bryon is a calm guy lol. but my mom woke me up and was like holy god..ive never felt a earthquake befor =P
I want to go in some big ass open space to feel a large earthquake. I live in Toronto so I barely feel earthquakes. I want to feel a big one in an open space so I don't have things falling on me.
sweet, i live there. i didnt even get out of bed. i just thought, "oh, must be a giant truck outside." it was totally illogical, but i was too tired to think otherwise. lol
i would like to feel what an eathquake feels like but not so big...just a tremor...i know there were some in washington and cali...but not alot in oregon...
I was in Chicago for a 1 year vacation, and I'm still here, I was still sleeping when this happened. Now, that morning, I was watching the News until my shows came on, and heard a 5.3 Quake was in O'Hare. I felt it for a minor 2 minutes, and thought I was cold, so I my blanket on.
ha! it makes me laugh that an earthquake at about 5.0 just doesnt phase them wotsoever, here in england, an earthquake of that magnitude would get every available emergency service across the country at the scene
Sounds like the New Madrid Fault is still keeping the midwest on thier toes. I am still waiting for the 9.0 and higher to hit here in Washington State and the rest of the West Coast with a tsunami to fallow! I love geology!!! Hope everyone is ok out there.
that wasnt the New Madrid, none of the recent quakes in this area have come from there. there are quite a few fault line running around, New Madrid is just the biggest.

If it's a lighter earthquake, you don't have to evacuate all the time, unless there is obvious structural damage.
