  • Can Emily bear play by ear or does she reads music

  • @Balletani9 Yes. It says she has perfect pitch. Which means she can play anything she hears in her head which helps her compose music! She is awesome! :)

  • @Balletani9 Emily can read music very well and I wouldn't be suprised that when she looks at a musical score she can hear the music

  • Wow, so good documentary piece!

  • I love the way she plays Jazz. It is truly, I feel the Best ever. I'm a Mozart Fan. Emilys Jazz Is Awsome.

  • Emily is a joy, but she does have a serious rival. That British kid Shane Thomas.

  • there 12 dislikes because people do not get the message in the song!!! btw i love ur piano playing GO EMILY

  • Could someone please tell me what song she was playing at the beginning? :)

  • @Irishadyn G. Gershwin - Prelude No. 1

  • I must have clapped my hands loudly for her

  • I feel useless

  • fucking germans... they dub an english speaking documentary and they subtitled it in english... so much retard/

  • @alain001 This documentary was made for German TV, actually, not just bought and dubbed - the english subtitles were added later for youtube - thankfully

  • @xxxxLillian doesn't matter, Germany always dub everything... They should open up to english (as well as France). but I hope you got the irony of dubbing an english spoken documentary and afterwards subbing in ;-)

  • @alain001 Yeah but the narration and the whole program is built around the German language. It's a lot easier to subtitle it than re-record the narration in English and remix the audio to not include the dubs.

  • @alain001 I'm German and I hate dubbing, actually. I wish German TV would use subtitle more often, but there's no need to be so offensive.."fucking germans...retard". DVDs and sometimes cinema do offer original versions of movies here, it's just TV that's (almost) always dubbed. I did find the back and forth translation ironic the first time I watched this video. At least for the German commentator/narration (not dubbed) the engl subs make sense though.

  • I write a lot of my own msic, but none of my songs measure up to half of Emily's. Great job!

  • Love your song you composed!! Simply beautiful!!

  • No I am not but I have studied with Juilliard teachers both in piano and composition and some of them teach at the Preparatory division. That division of Juilliard is extremely tough to get into for many kids. Imagine a school with a ton of "Emily Bears".

If you want to hear what possible heights she could reach with great training, just check Mendelssohn's Octet written when he was in his late teens or the music to a Midsummer's Night Dream written about the same time. Astounding stuff.

  • Many of Mozart's early works are bland style copies - though impressive for a child. So yes she is like Mozart for her prolific and accomplished for her age. But so are other young artists. I just think for a composer to blossom you have to be more discreet with what you share, otherwise you risk what I call the Josh Greenberg syndrome. Too much exposure too soon.

Finally, I am all for being prolific, but please some of these pieces are best shared with her classmates, family and teachers.

  • As for the comparison to Mozart you write - "she is prolific and never makes corrections" - well so do the manufacturers of Hostess cupcakes, but would you consider them the best cupcakes?

  • brgilbert - I do not find my comments obtuse but I apologize for the lack of clarity - these tiny boxes are a pain to elucidate my thoughts. Emily would be about in a middle ranking for Juilliard students in the preparatory divison at Juilliard such as Graham is in. He was writing orchestral pieces at the age of 8.

  • @alphabet661 I am guessing you are one of Juilliard's teachers then, since you can rank students.

  • lol, 10 years old and 100 singers in a composition. That's balls

  • I bet all the Asian kids are jealous. She wasn't forced to learn...

  • @AprilToniaRuiz I bet you are a stereotyping albino.

  • @brownale66pack I'm a fucking 16 year old Irish-Scottish-German kid from america. You know I am pale, and my cousins are Albino, that is serious! I'm just saying, everysingle asian kid at my school, in my neighborhood and in the surrounding schools were forced to learn an instrument like piano or violin AND take off campus PE. It's not common. Before you go off insulting anorexics, think about your words

  • @brownale66pack I don't know dude...every Asian I talked too said they had a crazy piano teacher that smashed their fingers.

  • @AprilToniaRuiz And not all Asians are forced...

  • @AprilToniaRuiz yes. I am an asian kid. and yes, I'm jealous... and at the same time inspired. :) I LOVE EMILY BEAR!!

  • @AprilToniaRuiz STEREOTYPING, MY FRIEND. O_O THINK before you type. Just an advice :)

  • 優秀的女生 :)

  • @a12196935

    はい、彼女は、私は同意です。

  • BRAVO!!!

  • Tim Janis Christmas Concert...goodtimes....goodtimes....

  • As for me, I am a late bloomer and though composed as a kid it has taken decades to find the time and teachers to progress at composition. I have written for instruments and voices and I humble enough to realize it would be a great accomplishment to be a first rate composer. In the mean time check out my video of my opera scene and a piece for organ.

As for you, try and raise the level of discourse beyond schoolyard name calling, won't you martremcheerful?

  • Finally, I expressed that she is extremely talented as a pianist. However, composition wise she is not as remarkable as you think. I have attended schools with world class conservatories - Juilliard and Oberlin. Have you heard of either? Basically put her with the kids at Juilliard Prep and she would be about right in the middle. I have attended the Morton Gould Young Composers Award. I know 10 year old who were runner ups despite they wrote several pieces for orchestra.

  • @martremcheerful I was reluctant to respond but it seems these days that if you do not hurrah every talented kid you are seen as either "untalented" or "envious" .

I am neither. All I ask is have you even asked about my background as a composer? Have you asked to hear my playing?

And in exchange what is your musical background?

  • 3:00 Why the foreign language?

  • Ok, she is fantastic pianist. But as a composer she has a LONG way to go. Her compositions are enviable for their maturity at such a young age but are nothing beyond what talented teenagers with musical training - jazz or classical are doing now. Composition takes a very long time to reach levels very high.

What gets me is I know of kids about 8 or 10 who have written more interesting pieces for FULL orchestra. Check Graham Cohen.

Ease up on this publicity - you need quiet to compose.

  • @alphabet661 Someone always has to take a swipe at a talent far greater than their own.

  • @alphabet661 hey, she's only a child. go easy on it will you. of course she has a long way to go but your comment sounded negative and discouraging.

  • @alphabet661 I have read and reread your posts and find them to be rather obtuse. You say "put her in a class at Juliard and she would be in the middle". Middle of what? Are her compositions to simple or immature? When thinking of simple pieces I am reminded of "Brahms Waltze" or Mozarts ""Piano Concerto #21 Andante". The compositions of any composer I think should not be labled in such a manner, but should be considered by the body of the work they compose through out their life.

  • @alphabet661 I believe Emily Bear can be compared to a Mozart as an example. She is prolific and never makes corrections. Only time will tell! Oh, thanks for turning me on to Grahm Cohen.

  • I want to learn "The Ellen song"!

  • What song was she playing at the beginning and background song at 10:21 ? :)

And is there a name to the song playing in the background at 2:54 . It's like a little girl humming kind of.

  • OMG! Did you guys see what she did to her dog?

  • debussy composed that first piece, not bear

  • i'm just confused with all the mix of german english dubs and subtitles....

  • @crr1950 Search his symphony no 12 for an example... For the record, he wrote AN OPERA when he was 11.

  • Wow! I remember watching her on ellen when she was just 6. Children grow up so fast! Emily is so talented. Hope she will have great career!

  • Very impressiv, she understands the Music! I Know a lot of people who can play better piano then emily, but they dont compose ;) I think she become a great composer. i am sure she will be a great film composer like Hans Zimmer or John Williams. Other Children like Umi garrett are better in other things on the piano ;) Emily is still the best Child composer on youtube!

  • Okay, so ONLY the best pianists are allowed to practice there??? Okay, that is seriously RUDE. So ur saying that people like me aren't allowed there because I don't have any TALENT???

  • @hermione624420 Makes sense to me.

  • Wow. Rich family....LOL. THEY HAV LIK 8 GRAND PIANOS!!!! :O

  • Great kid! Really a prodigy! Makes me wanna learn to play the piano as well. :)

  • In Sekunde 46 spielt sie Debussy, Kinderszenen. Da wird kommentiert, dass das Lied Ihre Komposition sei ... Sie wird Debussy bald spielen wie Mozart Salieri, um was zum Lachen zu haben.

  • She's so cute!

  • I wonder if she gets cold hands before a performance. I hate it when that happens! =P

  • When was this? And how old is she? Just wondering....... I know everybody is saying she is a prodigy, however I just disagree. I am a girl is surrounded by musicians, who have gone to Carnegie hall at the age of 5. I am one of those people, so yes I hate people who just say their a prodigy, when there are better.

  • @TheLUSHFANATIC Do more research on her and you will know why!

  • @TheLUSHFANATIC This was in December 2010 (her performance) and she was 9 at the time. :)

  • @EmilyBearfan thanks! :)

  • Emily....I have a comentary to you: As I am starting to see that little by little the art is in a kind of re-borning, I beg you (beg?) to get away from cameras as much as posible, and from people that ar interested only in prestige and fame. You have the strength the music needs and it would be a shame that the actual society ruined the posibily to you to make spmething serius and sincere, like i think had happened with many many persons....im very happy!!

  • i'm ur biggest fan very like you emily...

  • Emily is beyond-belief! Would love for her and Jackie Evanco to perform together sometime. They are two of the most phenomenal talents of our time, and the levels of achievement that they have attained at such precocious young ages just boggles the mind!

  • You can tell she's nervous; so sweet... I love her!

  • You are the best Emily!!!!!

  • so beautiful, love her happy self, but why is she wearing an indian like clothes

  • Does any1 know if she has sheet music for "How it's meant to be"?

  • @Rembrandta what it means to be a prodigy is having pitch perfect recall, she does not need sheet music, niether did Hr. Mozart, she is an amazing pianist and with a family such as hers I've no doubt we will hear a great deal more from this special composer.

So, are you related to Rembrandt or just hitching a ride on the name of someone significantly more talented and famous than yourself?

  • @Jackyl82334 Holy crap ur mean...jst wanted 2 KNO if she had sheets geez..

anyone significantly more polite than Jacky here know if she has sheets for that song?

  • Does anyone know what that beautiful piece she composed at Steinway Hall is called?

  • @imxoxox "How it's meant to be"

  • gosh what about homework emily? hahaha

  • I love how the music at 5:27 is in Fantastic Mr. Fox too. :D

  • it must be a great feeling to watch her play and thinking "that's my daughter"...

  • can someone add spanish subtitles please??? for all the spanish fanss!!

  • I am absolutely speechless right now. She is truly an angel.

  • Emily is the most adorable pianist on planet earth !

  • So inspiring... :')

  • Her parents seem to be rather well-off and that makes things easier for her. She is a unique talent.

  • i dont get it , if emily os speaking english why did they put it in german with subtitles?

  • @watever646 because it was a german documentary

  • its not easy being parent of a prodigy.. they have to balance between getting the kids genius out and also letting her be a child.. kudos to emilys family.. kids like her are treasure not just to her family or country, but to entire world

  • 6:35

she composed a heart touching piece

love to repeat it all the time,,,

    ^_^

  • 5:54

    look at her fingers

    sooooo fast

  • She wrote the music for peace, Who wrote the lyrics? Thanks.

  • @mortsey Her mother wrote the lyrics. :) I love playing "Peace"

  • @EmilyBearfan Thanks that is interesting...

  • a very heart touching story :')

  • Hi! Mozart!

  • I also like Emily's dresses! :)

  • @1shelbyworld Me too!!!!

  • I'm working on "Peace (We are the Future)" on the piano right now! :) It's A LOT harder than it sounds.

  • @EmilyBearfan You already have the book?! Wow! I probably won't get mine for another week. I ordered mine on Emily's birthday last week. Can't wait to get it! :)

  • @1shelbyworld Yup! I posted a practice video today.

  • I went to Carnegie hall to!! Please search me up: Allison cheng.....Thx!!

  • look up Stephanie Safont on youtube

  • Makes me want to get off the computer and do something with my life. I think I'll watch another video of her playing.

  • 0:46 not her piece. Debussy's piece...

  • 0:28 poor dog

  • Comment removed

  • @ZeY00T00b Well, not everyone knows German as well as you do. At least he got the gist of it.

  • She'll be playing again at Carnegie Hall on December 2! I wish I was rich.

  • @EmilyBearfan I know what you mean!! :)

  • @ClassicalFan28 I can't wait to play "Peace"! I do want to know what the lyrics are.

  • If you love Emily then follow @EmilyBearFans on twitter :)

  • emily you really ispiration Great talent!!!!!

  • which jealous haterz disliked this?

  • In the beginning, she is playing Gershwin's Etude #1.

    Gershwin would be proud.

  • @blackkitty1233 Prelude, not Etude. Good for you for recognizing it, though!

  • @EmilyBearfan Ahh right of course (silly mistake)... i always wonder what if Gershwin wrote more. Anyways good job Emily!

  • @blackkitty1233 Actually, he did! He wrote three preludes total.

  • @EmilyBearfan But he died so young!

  • @blackkitty1233 I know!!! :(((

  • A once in a century talent. I hope nothing corrupts her.

  • @Jitpring AMEN to that!

  • Awesome lil girl...wish i had a talent like that!!!

  • Awesome lil girl...wish i had a talent like that!!!

  • what is the name of the song she plays at 3:25?

  • @emma0101101 I've been wondering that for a while myself!

  • Lets all hope that she doesnt become like... Every other female star... -_-"

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • so now she's composing for an entire orchestra AND a choir + soloists? just wow!

That was a wonderfulful piece, although the soloists could have been a little better.

Bravo Emily, you're the youngest person to play in this legendary hall and most definitely the youngest composer!

I admire this girl so much,

  • i'm so curious of what that 6 people didn't like about this video.

  • @paranyipiri Ach, they're just jealous and don't like that Emily actually has talent, unlike so many other stars nowadays.

  • @EmilyBearfan i absolutely agree

  • Comment removed

  • I saw this video in the German Television. And after that I was searching it in youtube, but I could not find it again, because I forgot the name of the girl. She's great. No I found it again. Sorry it's in German, but with subtitles.

  • one word: ... wait what's the word again? okay how about perfect?

  • Woah, nicely put Arcade Fire song @ like 5:23, eh?

  • Yeah, I can play this well too - because I'm not really touching the keys and I'm playing her videos on my ipod. But hey, who's gonna search my pockets while I'm performing?

  • i can play this good...in my dreams.

  • emily bear your great i love you ♥

  • she**

  • he got famous for some reason but in asia there are tons of children even younger that play as good as her.. weird they dont get as much credits as she gets

  • @apenkind5 That's cause "They're Chinese; not as impressive!!!" For some reason, kids who are Asian are some kind of robotic freaks who are forced, every single one of them. I myself am Asian and I am not forced in the least.

  • @apenkind5 do they compose music also? Also she began playing naturally pre lessons. She definately wasn't hammered by her parents either.

  • children these days, right?

  • Quit comparing her to Mozart and his legend. What are you trying to do to her?

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

  • @DipZeeDoo22 No, she's from illinois, She's american.

  • @CharliAndTheStudMufs When DipZeeDoo said "English", he meant ENglish-speaking.

  • @EmilyBearfan Oooooh riiight... Sorry, my mistake ^_^

  • @DipZeeDoo22 No, she's from illinois.

  • her dress is sooo pretty

  • really beautiful and talented girl. <3

  • Original footage in english, dubbed to german, subbed to english... LOLWUT

  • Emily Bear is truly one of God's most beautiful creations! That is talent at its core!

  • she is soo cute! and really musical

  • you'd think god would want his angel back

  • @alfred4king But thank Him that he's loaning her to us for a while!

  • @alfred4king That's kinda creepy.

  • God has enough angels!! Let's keep this angel with us!! She is wonderful!!

  • She is amazing, but maybe she can be a bit easy on that doggy XD

  • i thought she was english :O

  • Wow. Thats pretty cool.

Did anyone notice that the english subtitles and what the people were actually saying was different?

  • @drivingforgiraffes That's fairly common when you translate to one language and back again. A lot of English phrases don't translate well to German, and vice versa. From what I could tell (my German is pretty rusty), the subtitles were direct/raw translations of the German commentary and voice-overs.

  • she's good, but no where near mozart's level when mozart was at her age......dont over rate her....she's still a genius though, just not mozart's level.

  • @gkcnae you and the season of Mozart, as you know it was not as good as Mozart??

  • harrison high school played in Carnegie Hall not too long ago it was beautiful :D

  • I may not see her playing Mozart, but I can see her playing "The way it is" by Bruce Hornsby.

  • @dragonpullman SHe did play Mozart! She played the entire 23rd Concerto when she was only seven!

  • It must be really annoying to have someone in your house constantly practicing piano :P

wow...but I seriously wish I was half as good as her > <

  • was that arcade fire playing when she got to new york? good job germans... funny how they dub over it and then it gets translated back, albeit being somewhat misinterpreted in some parts haha
