I actually think this is a crappy rendition of an amazing song. It sounds like half of the instruments are synthesized, which just gives it a cheap feeling. I'm not sure whether this is Apocalyptica or Vitamin String Quartet -- I've heard people say both, so I can't say. Whoever it is, they should go back to the drawing board, take out the English garden feel, remove any electronic background junk, and get try to capture the real essence of this amazing song.

@fcjefe there is no electronic 'background' in that at all, maybe you should start listening to acoustic intruments for a change and plus they cant 'capture' the real essence of the orginal masterpiece, theyre not the composer who wrote the song so the song would of had no purpose and meaning. the musicians are pretty much just playing whats written out for them in the score that someone trancribed for them by listening to the song himself. itll never be as good as the oringal but its still good

@Halfwaythere112 I love good cover songs. I completely agree that a good cover doesn't have to sound like the original. It's obviously open to the interpretation of the artist, and that's what makes covers interesting, I think. My issue with this rendition, according to PsyCentauri, is the inverted pedal notes. To me (and maybe only me) they sound cheap. I prefer, for example, the sound of Apocalyptica, who doesn't seem to use those. You can call it what you want, but it's my personal taste.

Hmm, this was okay. It was missing an epic solo at the end, don't know why they spend so much time and do such an awesome job, just to leave out the most epic and emotional part of the whole song :/ Also, a few simple slides and a couple of more vibrant vibratos would have really brought the lead violin closer to Robert Plant's intended melody, it just came off kind of flat an uninteresting most of the time. 7 minutes and 34 seconds is a long time for people to sit at a funeral listening.

Bloody awful. They completely ignore the dymanics and phrasing of the original, and the arrangement is much too crowded at the top end so the melody gets lost amongst the other parts. Lots of wrong notes too. They churn this stuff out like a sausage factory, they've got about 200 albums on iTunes.

@quekmeister I agree this is a quartet as I am currently transcribing it for a buddy of mine and it's the only combination of instruments that made sense. Although some tonic imperfections indicate two violas playing the same parts... But yeah quartet was the only thing that made sense. ANYWAYS, just thought I'd say thet I am relatively certain Apocolyptica has three cellos... Just sayin. :p
