If Charlie Weis can't get it done, Notre Dame should go after Skip Holtz. Skip Holtz has good coaching experience. If Skip came to Notre Dame and did well, it would be like the Thompsons at Georgetown all over again. Anyone agree with me?
Lou's Irish didn't have the best talent when they were in the mix for national championships in the late 80s and early 90s. Miami and Florida State usually had the nod when it came to talent and speed but ND was able to make room at the big boys table for themselves because of the attitude that Lou created. However, today's recruiting atmosphere is different. The top high school recruits realize that they don't have to go to the power schools or conferences to get to the NFL.
That's why we see schools from smaller conferences upsetting Penn State, Michigan and ND. The academic standards of these traditional northern powers has a significant impact on recruiting. If a kid has an idea that he can get to the pros, and nation wide visibility isn't the problem it use to be, why should he put himself through the ringer, academically, to stay eligible at these more prestigious institutions? Like water and electricity, people usually take the path of least resistance.
