  • How many sessions did it take?

  • These are the most important stages and they should be done slowly to ensure proper conditioning of the muscles and of course the mind :) having said all that, this horse seems to have a good mind and looks like he is enjoying his new tool. Very flashy too!

  • Cntd. shouldn't jump more than a total of 5-10 jumps in one week, this is to keep them jumping for a long time after their prime in regards to joints and ligaments, remember they are still soft and growing, it can be easy to harm their legs. I also believe that free jumping should be done often over grids versus single fences. The idea of training a young horse over fences is to ensure they become careful and thinking. It should be easy and fun for them to enjoy it and want to continue doing it

  • In my opinion, a young horse being introduced to jumping shouldn't be able to knock the rails (the jumps should be small and SO solid that if the horse isn't careful he will not get into the habit of being lazy), some young horses find enjoyment of knowing they can dismember what they are being asked to jump and in most cases also enjoy the break they get while you are busy setting the jump back up (they can start to associate). Also they shouldn't jump more than a total of 5-10 jumps in one we

  • I hate how most of these comments are negative. Just Lay Off!!! You can have your own way of training but this girl has her own way too. If she wasn't training the horse the right way, it wouldn't be jumping these jumps as well as it is. And this is a great video btw. The horse is wonderful!

  • dont push your horses to hard with the jumps it is still young :)

  • What r u usin to block him isit .. rope ????xx

  • @ffionandrhydian No not rope..... soft tape xx

  • When do you start putting weight on the horses back?

  • @doglove1999 = depends on what breed and how well built your horse is youngest is late 3 yo xx :)

  • i think that everyone is being a bit ...( its no the right way.. the horse is to young) honestly horses jump in the wild and they are naturally able to jump. The jumps are not very high. this is normal the horse is just learning to jump in a controlled environment over a period of time.

  • if this was done over a 4 week period why does the beginning say "training session april 23rd" and why are all the people in the arena wearing the same jackets..?

  • This horse is going to be an amazing jumper :) or is already. i can tell :D

  • I. LOVE. THIS. HORSE.!!! <3

  • i liked. it i think im going to try with my new horse and see how it works! thanks!

  • so annoying how so many poeple think you did this all in 1 session... I like your methods :-D

  • Wow... Thanks! I am about to train my new horse to jump this comming spring...... This really helped!!!!!!!

  • I really dislike how everyone thinks the way THEY do it is the right way..

If you think like that , you're wrong! everyone has different ways of training a horse, different styles and different techniques, just like feeding .. some might go with a more fibergized diet than a powerful diet. Same with riding , some might go classic riding or some might go with the trainers style of riding.

  • There seem to be many different opinions on this vid. I suppose the cross poles are ok for sch a young horse but anything higher really not benificial. When the fillers are introduced and the horse refuses, yelling at it is NOT the way to train a horse. A foolproof way to ruin it

  • I think more people should read the description and comments.. Lovely horse btw

Anyways, Im teaching my 3 yr old to jump and he does amazing over ground poles, raised cavaletti's etc, but wen I put it as a x rail or vertical jump he just plows through it. Even when I set up a few poles before the jump he still plows through it.. Any suggestions?

  • why did u go from a ground pole to "a small upright". isnt it an oxer? dont u think that u should have just done a 18' cross rail?

  • so did u like wear tha same outfit for four weeks?? or r u lyin_just a question

  • to all the negative people , as he said It was over a four week period , this is the best way to train him , in a stable enviroment , good job by the way :)

  • you guys have done an amazing job....I am wanting to teach my 17 hand OTTB to jump....just little jumps but am not sure how to start. he doesnt know how to do anything really..... so I just started trotting him over trot poles and cavalettis(sp?) he still doesnt pick his feet up like he should...is there anything else I can do to get him to stop dragging his feet?

  • I respect everyone has there way of doing things but really all the people criticizing how this horse is being trained need to re-evaluate how they perceive things ! I think what you guys are doing is great, clearly the horse is very well breed and to allow it to first laern how to jump in a safe, confidence building environment with no ride is very ideal. This horse is getting a chance to develop a very correct jumping style and not being unbalanced or inhibited by a rider :)

  • okay ,well its nice to see it was made over a month. cause i was gunna say wow thats fast for a 3 yr old. so how is this horse now? he is very pretty and i would love to own him :P but a 3 year old jumping? i dont think that could be a great idea, cause he could develp pre mature artheritis.. unless by 3 his knees are filled in .. but theyd still be tender

  • wow that is really amazing, what a good boy:) i hope everything went well training him. im training a 4 yr old quater horse and its harder then it looks

  • @kerrrriemx

this video was made over a 4 week period,

it didnt say it in the discription, but last year, i asked them how long it took, and they said over 4 weeks. and i think its in a comment above...

anyways, yeah its was 4 weeks

    :)

  • It must take a couple of people to be in the middle to train a horse to jump loose, incase he/she has a 'horsie moment' and stampede lol... anyway lovely horse and great little jumper xx

  • Hey guys, it not really for you to say weather it is to high, im sure they know what they are doing. =)

  • Very educational ! He actually looks just like my hano :)

  • calling me a retard is not very nice i dont know alot about jumping so i may be wroung! RELAX plz

  • That 3yr old seemed very meture in the video and had a lovely jump to him but even nice paces :) nice video :) x x

  • Thanks for uploading this. I've watched a lot of horses loose jumping but I've been away from horses for a while, and just starting again. Really helpful to be able to watch the horse naturally finding his own stride and lowering his head. Also interesting to see how when he gets used to a fence he lowers his head less and takes it more in his stride.

  • thaa horse acts like he has been doin thta all his life!!

  • OK Guys,

all trainers are diffrent preasally going over one jump would have been enought for me. Humans are greedy! if we see a horse doing something we like we ask for it to do it more and more and then the horse makes a mistake.. it's already tired so you cant fix it and then the horse ends on a bad note!

  • @MontyBoyMob retard...

  • why do you need so many poeple to break a horse to jump?

  • wow they did that all at once! you shouldn't rush it! that horse is only 3 years old... very beautiful tho :)

  • @AmericanGirl9600 like they said, it was over a 4 week span

  • very nice horse but i really would suggest waiting until the horse is at least 5 to jump it like that... its legs are going to be very bad later in like, but otherwise that is an awesome horse!!!!!!

  • no ofense but he looks like he has jumped before and quite alot

  • alright retards: this is his horse not yours. Does he want you stupid comments about how hes stupid? Dont think so. So shut up. he trains different and the horse doesent seem to mind

  • i think people can train horses how every the hell they want to. i dont see anything rong with this.

  • get on him its fun 4 the horse and u that way he/she didnt look like he enjoyed that and if he refuses dont make him jump it take him bck 2 the start bit and let him go ova it again u yelled at him u cant get through 2 a horse by yelling they dont respond 2 that more like givin the treats when they hav done the right thing or sumfin giv him a rest 4 like 5 mins and then keep going that is not a enjoyable way 2 jump the horse seemed stressed coz there was alot of presure put on him try ridin him

  • That is deffinately way too fast and it is plainly seen that the horse is not enjoying it. jumping should be enjoyable not something that is forced as hard and as quickly as this horse has been.

To all the people looking to train there horses to jump DO NOT train them like this!!!

  • @jadevranic actually this horse is picking its pace. They;re just asking it to move forwards, hes a gangly youngster, he hasn;t found his feet with jumpig and he doesn't really know what speed to go at, therefor he opts ofr fast, eventually he will learn that to get over them a steady canter will be easier.

  • @cromwellandlucy i understand what your saying, but the hight was to big for just starting, just because a horse can jump a certain height doesnt mean it should, and it wasnt enjoying its self because it kept running into the corner trying to stop. i dont want to start an arguement or anything so im just leaving it at that.

  • geez give the horse a break and teaching a horse to jump is a gradual process you shouldn't hurry it. you should get it used to one height then move up a LITTLE bit

  • 3? god lord I wouldnt put a 3 year old anywhere near a jump! especially not a hanovarian. Those sort of horses arent even fully grown until they're 5-6. thats the quickest way i know how to ruin a perfectly good horse and your horse looks to be an absolute stunner.

  • He is a very brave horse, but training a horse to jump is a gradual process. You should get him used to walk, trotting and canter over poles first. Then build into grids, then into a small cross bar, and slowly raise it up over days of training.

  • i know like every1 has there opinions but i bet the owner of this horse

has trained many horses to jump this way so advise is good but mean comments are outas (by the ay please don't comment back like what do you because i do have a horse) thanks this isn't a mean comment just sayin my opininon :)

  • he is absolutely beautiful and very brave but..i don think u shud force him rite away and make him feel scared...just be slow gradual and patient

  • Thats a beautiful horse but i didnt agree with the forcing i would have gotten on

  • Comment removed

  • gorgeous horse! but I don't think you should have been doing THAT much jumping.... it will destroy his knees and tendons when he is older. and you should have at least changed the direction instead of only tracking left.

  • Very good video. My Mom and I are looking at a warmblood that hasn't been trained to jump and this will help A LOT!

  • the poor thing.. its so young, if hes only starting to jump he doesn't have the right muscles or strength to do heights like that straight away. It should be increased over time as he builds up his confidence, muscles and strength.. no wonder he kept running into the corner i would too!

  • I totally agree with Ponyluvver101.. never rush a young horse in one session you can sour them towards the sport..

  • that looks like a great horse

  • ok im going to train my horse to jump and i think this video will help me a lot.. thank u so much!

  • Great steps but too fast, you should take jumping training slower so you don't scare the young horse. Also with young horses when he's done a few good jumps stop, end while your ahead.

  • not that hes jsut to young ubut your rushing him

  • For everyone saying that he is too young for this it all depends on how fast that horse has matured into himself. It can depend on breed, work, conditions, many things. My pony started jumping under saddle when he was three but I made sure he was developed enough and that his knees were closed. It all depends on the horse.

  • That horse moves BEAUTIFULY! he is very pretty and he did very well ^^

  • He's great. And no, ponyluvver, this horse is perfectly cabable of jumping that and doing all of that in one day. I think he will make an excellent jumper.

  • he has beautuful paces!

  • he will be very successful in jumping!!!

  • its awsome that he does that

  • thats really high for a three year old and a lot to throw at him in one day

  • Completely agree, they should have at least changed the rein - the horse must have got v tired of working on 1 rein for that long!

  • isn't a 3 year old a bit too young to start training?

  • wow hes a natural. he'll be a GOOD jumper. are you going to show jump him??

  • great job of training !! :D but wouldn't it take a while longer before he starts jumping oxers? but hes very good

  • isnt he kind of young for this???

  • @ckmproduction Don't people free jump foals with their mothers? I know I've seen that done...but I don't really know.

  • @ckmproduction as long as the horse doesn't have a rider on his back, this is fine. it's no different from how they would leap up in the air in the pasture

  • i have an arabian horse not pure so i am asking can she jump and how high thnx

  • hes amazing .. but whats the difference between a gelding and a satllion or mare _?

  • a stallion is a male horse that can breed and produce and a mare is a female horse.. and a gelding is a stallion that has been fixed and cannot produce

  • I love your training video!

  • I think its cute how horses will look at a jump and be like oh no thats too big! He really did learn quite fast though! Good for both horse and trainers!

  • I love your training method! This horse will be great :) and to people saying he changed the height too quickly I think you are wrong because he said that this was over a 4 week period of time.Great job and great method!

  • he looks like a great future showjumper :)

i like the way u are stern and dont let him back away from the jump :D thats what i do when riding :)

    well done

    great video xx

  • that is a nice horse that jumps quite well, but i do agree, it is too much, too high in one session.

  • @horseofflame

remember it's not done in one session,

this film was made over a four week period

  • @horseofflame in other comments the owner put it said that it was after a

  • @horseofflame no dip. he said that one jump was to high so it was lowered... jeez.

  • @horseofflame Its over 1 week:)

  • he looks really smooth wat breed is he

  • he is a hanoverian gelding

  • We break and back approx 25 to 30 three ( rising four ) year olds each year here at Greenacres Stud and have been specialising in this field for 19 years. Whilst your comment was no doubt well intentioned it shows a lack of experience on your part.... Best Wishes

  • poor horse! For a three year old... doing that for that length was to much...i believe so anyways. I would at least kept the heights lower longer, adn would've had sometime of tendon protection/support(i.e smb boots, jump boots, even polo wraps!)

  • could that horse jump befor you made that film??

  • No..but please remember that the film was made over a four week period. xx

  • i have a horse and was wondering how broke your horse was and should they be broke all the way before training them to jump my mare is goin to be 3 soon thanx

  • i agree. your teaching your horse its okay to rush. but that can be pixed. i think the only thing wong is how quickly you raised the fences. poor horse!!

  • i think wen the horse does the jump at 1:52 it looks really funny

  • You shouldnt be making this horse do that . For one wb's mature later then your tb's and QH and there joints are not developed yet . Your wrecking the poor horses legs . Second that is not the way you should be teaching a horse to jump for the 1st time, your just teaching the horse bad habits such as rushing. Another thing is you should not be increasing the height so quickly .

  • cute horse.

id only say change direction lol

  • Fabulous horse

  • you should have a very nice jumper there!

    gorgeous horse.

  • cute!

i just trained my 3 year old to jum 3' 3" watch my video on my youtube account she does great

her name is minnie and her bday is 4/23 which i found a coincidence to your movie you have arpil 23rd and the name mickey on your video!!

    IRONIC!

  • You helped me so much with my training a green pony! thanks!

  • Wow! He's very good! Adorable.

  • I love that method - it looks very effective!

Lovely horse, he looks stunning over the jumps, and rounds nicely for a three year old!

just wanna ask, is he being long-reined or just free-running over the jump?

I've never seen this method before so I'm a little confused!xo

  • I like it when it refuses the jump.

    It looks pretty.

    Lol

  • He's lovely! And got a tidy style, especially considering he's only just learning!

I'm currently teaching my 5 year old to jump :)

  • Hes lovely! & Very brave to jump the closed fillers!!!

Everyone - Alot of Horses are competing at age 3, so i dont see what half of you have a problem with.

  • really? in Australia horses are not allowed to go anywhere near competitions (unless it's an in hand show) until they are 4 or older. 3 year olds are not developed enough to be doing that sort of stenuous work. It's just too hard on their bodies and their minds. If you overface a horse it can have terrible consequences.

  • No you are nude rude and you are entitled as an adult to your opinions ....... Take care keep in touch xx

  • i think that is too high for a three year old to be jumped(i am not trying to be rude)

  • you may think that, myval97, but my friends 4yr old jumps 1m 10cm.

  • He is a very nice horse! However he may be a bit young to be pushed that high, esp in one day!! I just started my TB o/f's and he is still not over 2 ft! I dont want him to get nervous and knocking the fence over..good luck with him! He is VERY nice!

  • Is this horse for sale, cuz i would sooooo take it. LOVING IT :-)

  • Just letting everyone know you shouldn't jump a three year old you should wait until they are four. But he is very impressive! He can jump very well. What a incredible horse but still jumping him at three will be damaging!

  • no its not the age its when thier knees are fully done growing and have come together. vets can check this for you its not a matter of age its just whether or not their knees have finished growing together and are strong

  • I love this method, i did it with a 4 year old sports horse. I think it allows the horse to think for itself, in terms of impulsion and stride. I like to see how others do it and compare with my own ways, but i personally dont jump so high first time, second time i put the fence up to about 1m10 but keep the session shorter so as not to tier the horse out, avoiding errors and loss of confidence, undoing everything done so far. Great vid & a really lovely 3 year old, would be nice to see him now!

  • you make it lok so easy

  • wow he was amazing! and i know lots of horses that have been training in jumping before they were three, and like you say, they turn out just fine! this horse was amazing! he got the idea right away!

  • No I dont take offence as this horse is now jumping the young horse championships in Lanaken Belgium shortly and we have been ofered big money for him xx

  • No offense, but that is going WAY too high for a 3 year old. Even if he seems happy enough while he's doing it, that dosen't really mean anything. At 3, the horse's bones are still growing, and the growth plates haven't closed yet. To jump them at all at that young age will cause permanant damage, and jumping that height could be devastating. By all means, do not jump a three year old at all.

  • lol..He is such a great jumper! At 2:44 he takes off to early but STILL Clears it! That was awesome! And at 3:46 and 4:03 I think he was getting tired. But great video! Gorgeous horse..

  • pretty horse i so want him :)

  • i think u should put another horse there to make the horse fell more natural...

    just a suggestion.

  • your horse is soooooo cute i love Hanoverians

  • i love this vid and your horse is soooooooooooooooo cute

  • lovely horse! but he should be doing the jumps on both reins in the same sessioin as he could become dominent with his left lead and not a good on his right.

  • he has a very nice jump.

  • btw devyn89 its actually not accually...tehehe.

  • very cute horse! nice jump!! but he was going a little fast towards the jumps, and getting some big distances in there. What happens when the rider gets on and he/she tries to jump on the horse? Also, if your pulling back on the reins to slow the horse down, whats going to happen because the horse was picking up speed a couple strides before the jump. but very cute jumping :-)

  • i have just recently started to get into jumping but i dont think they rushed him.. infact the horse looked like he really enjoyed himself. plus he was in decent shape and a very promising looking horse.

  • Im sure the horse knowes his limits and im sure the owners do as well if the horse wanted to stop im pretty sure he would have stoped-

Very nicely done this horse will be a great jumper!

  • Is this really his first time? ii doubt it! i have seen so many horses and the paddocks who have been training a little by little and still the horse won't jump?

  • I think it really depends on the horse- I jumped mine over crossrails and small verticals the second day of jumping with no previous jumping (this was undersaddle) and he had no problems with it. Most horse can at least free jump with few problems.

  • even though you think it is too high too fast, the horse told the people his limits, when it got to high he showed them he couldnt do it yet!

  • i agree 3 is to young me myself i own breed raise and ride hano's and you have to let there muscles develope or you will ruin him/her

  • From the looks of their website and the videos, they have alot of knowledge.. and I seriously doubt this is the gelding first time jumping.

  • i think you should have stopped after he did the fillers with a vertical, and left it there until later.

lish horse tho, he looks like he is enjoyin himself :)

  • I also agree with stormhorse 23 the jumps are to high to fast you have to increase it gradually over time

  • yeah like before the oxer there should be a veritcle dont you think

  • very nice jumping.

he's got a nice jumping technique too.

    but i agree with stormhorse23

    it's too high too fast.

  • some nice jumps there he reli got the hang of it in the last few ones 2

    very nice

  • People race horses at two years old(even though im against it). A little jumping isnt going to hurt a three year old. But this too high to fast.

  • Lovely horse, he will have a nice jumping technique. I can't agree on the training technique, but that's jst my opinion =) 3 yrs is a little young to be jumping IMO.

  • beautiful horse! nice work, but in my opinion three years old is too young to be jumping. Gotta give them time to grow up a bit. : )

  • Wow, it jumps very well ...

Good job, I like it ...

My horse jumps without fences! xD

  • I'm going to use this video as a referance to teach future horses how to jump. Very beautiful horse by the way.

  • ok that was great training and all.. i used to train my horse eli a 6 year old to jump but he died long ago. A tip is to let him jump it untill he gains speed and then do at least 2 more at that level raise one bar each time repeating these steps, do not use a wip. you should stop when signs of sudden slowness or panting. You can only push a horse so hard. great job though i no im not an expert but it is from experience.

  • you only use the dressage whip to keep them going. you use them when lunging. its to get them to go.

  • That was very intense training.... I think he started knocking down the jumps because he was getting tired, but that is my ompinion..... very good jumper though!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's a young horse. Probably not used to jumping things like that, that wouldn't be out in his natural habitat.

  • I am amazed at how bold and honest he was after the refuses...as if he had been jumping at that height for years!

What a beautiful boy, congrats to whomever has bought him.

  • wow that horse is beautiful i wish he wasnt sold :[[ he will be a great jumper though but i think he could be a really good hunter too!

  • He has been sold for show jumping xx

  • hay really cool vid is that your horse ?

what will he be used for?

  • his canter looks so soft.. Ah.

  • with 3 years their bones and muscles aren't already completely developped, you can cause irreparable damage by doing them jumping that high and that much... you shouldn't start before 4 or 5 years... I don't want to critize, only to give you some good advice

  • I'm sure they know that.

I'm sure they arn't going to over due his jumping, and they will give him plenty of time to rest. I understand just getting him started to jump and stuff. Plus there isn't a rider on him, he should be just fine.

  • This video was helpful! thanks! i am about to start training a 2 year old to jump.... so thanks!

  • he has a wonderfull jump, But isn't that a bit high fo ra 3year old? You don't want to make them jump much more than really 2 feet..:\ It could cause problems in growth. But yeah, not meant in a bad way(: Beautifull horse too.<3(:

  • Its ok because there isn't a rider on her.

  • nice moves, nice jump, but your always going round on the left reign, so your building up muscle only on one side! Sorry just had to point that out!

  • No problem .....we did actually train also on the other rein ....but the object was to just give the basic techniques to people watching the vid ..... Thanks for your interest all the same xxx

  • Thanks xx

  • wow he is gorgeous!!

well done for training him xxxx

  • He's gorgeous, and I love his color.

What is he a prospect for? He looks like he could make a nice hunter or eq horse, very smooth.

  • He has been sold for show jumping xx

  • O right.... glad you could see something in him xx

  • hahaha, although I won't like- I see a fantastic potential dressage horse... not so much of a jumper. :)

  • good jumper!!! This video is exsacly(dont know how to spell that)what i was looking for. Thx for posting it!
