Im a fifa fan, but tbh the look of the game, just purely visually looks more realistic than fifa, however animation, fifa hands down. I find fifa to be to bright and colourful, where as with this PES video it doesnt seem that way

Whoever can create a football game w/ the graphics, sound, animation and licensing of FIFA combined w/ the far superior game play of PES will have a fanboy for life. PES 2011 was the first football game I've played other than FIFA. I've since uninstalled FIFA and have not looked back ever since. Those who play PES on the pc like me can make their own customizations which makes the lack of licensing a lot less present.

i dont buy PES because the animation is terrible. it looks like an arcade game and i feel detached from it. with FIFA all the little details and animations run much more smoothly, and, especially with the new impact engine, the physics and movements are much more believable

But Fifa got better Gameplay than PES. All the game rating sites also agree with this. I just think its because PES fans know Fifa has definitely got better animation than them so they try to bring up gameplay as excuse for why its better than FIFA which is complete Bullshit. Even real footballers, I follow on twitter all say they are playing FIFA non of them ever mention PES. Last year on twitter Pique revealed Messi enjoys playing FIFA although Messi is featured on PES front covers.

The PES gameplay is grossly overrated. Don't get me wrong I like both games a lot and play both regularly, but PES doesn't have anywhere near perfect gameplay, it has so many obvious faults when playing it and very often lacks realism which FIFA has been getting stick for by the PES side. PES has usually been more artistry and emphasises the slick beauty of the game, but PES 2011 was made more difficult, physical and realistic than it's predecessors which changed the game completely. Bias sucks.

PES 5 and 6 on PS2 didn't have great animation, but they still are to this day the greatest football titles of all time (yes, FIFA 10 can kiss both their arses too).

And although I agree that animations shouldn't be a major concern, as much as other features like gameplay, I don't think you can neglect the impact of presentation. Animations are constantly being improved (every year) and I think that should continue, or else every PES will look the same (admittedly not much of a problem if they PLAY differently), but PES will lose a lot of credibility if the games aren't presented well.

I always buy both PES and FIFA and the same always happens every year for the past 5 years: FIFA grows, PES has minor improvements and falls behind. Granted... But after a couple of months, I'm playing PES PES PES and fifa collects dust. Gameplay? Check! Fun? Check! Longevity? Check! If you think PES 2011 looks the same as in PS2 days, buy some glasses or get a better TV (CRT much?)...

I've got pes 2011 too, but i actually dont use it anymore, while Fifa is almost always inside the console. About graphics, check the last screens relased by Konami, and look at the italian national team players. I'm italian, and I honestly cant recognize the most part of them! (not joking, many others had this problem). This happens becouse of the old style technology used to reproduce players

@saibarcafi Plus fixed referees. They now play the advantage rule and, if necessary, book players when the ball goes out of play. They've also fixed the "catch-up bug", where in PES 2011, the defender could always catch up to the attacker with the ball, no matter how fast the attacker was. Now, they've fixed it, so depending on the attacker's speed, he can leave the defender for dead. They've improved the atmosphere, ball physics and animations. So no, there's a LOT more than just active AI.

Anyway yes, I've seen that catch-up bug but the problem is that bug SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN in PES 2011, it's not a "feature".

Fixing referees is also a good thing, but it should have also been done years ago. Unfortunately FIFA sucks at this point to, and I'm sure the AI in FIFA 12 will suck.

@saibarcafi Firstly, AI reshapes the whole game, so it's a bit narrow to band it into one feature. Secondly, PES have demonstrated that they're willing to fix problems, and not sweep them under the carpet. We're so glad to see that the catch-up bug and referee-ing have been fixed. Thirdly, Jon has said many times that they're only revealing improvements to gameplay. So we can't even imagine the improvements to the game modes, like ML Online. Also, there'll be a new mode called "Football Life".

@saibarcafi I don't think that's true. Many critics have branded PES 2012 (based on the alpha code) as having the best football AI of any game, ever. That's really something. PES have made a conscious effort to remove what we call "locked-in animations", where an entity is locked into an animation and can't be controlled until the animation has surpassed. The most famous example of this is the stumble-animation. All gone.

Players never stand still. There's always someone drifting around looking for space to get the ball. Very reminiscent of "total football" (Rinus Michels, 1970s).

@saibarcafi Also a major influence is the emphasis on team tactics. In FIFA, the computer AI is actually quite bad (defensively, particularly so - but that's a separate issue). In FIFA, almost every team behaves in the same way. Players exhibit the same movements and reactions to key events teams keep the same shapes. In PES, depending on how you set up a team, you can have two complete Yin/Yang outputs. Take the idea of Catenaccio vs Total Football. And the amazing this is, it's possible in PES
