This reminds me of when I broke into the old Wieboldt's building on Harlem & Lake (pre-1994) in '92, except that ended up in me and a friend getting arrested. We *did* spend a good 2-3 hours in there before setting off a silent alarm, though. If I could go back, I'd do it all over!
i haven't gotten to the highest roof, i've walked across a roof to get into the highest building but it was dark and we only saw an elevator shaft, no stairs.
Anyone actually ever been to the highest roof? Don't worry, all the staircases aren't knocked out. There are still some stairs, but in real dark areas. I've probably been almost everywhere. Even the flooded basement!
Go here all the time. It's an awesome place. There are some sort of guards sometimes in the front, but they're cool one you talk to em. Doesn't matter anyway, you enter from the tracks.
When I was in high school my train would go past abandoned Brachs Factory. For those want the "adress" try 4600 West Kinzie, Chicago IL. I went there last year but I didn't go in because there was construction workers. I think I might start tagging here too! Super props to Zachmanz8 for this awesome tour!
I and My dad worked here for over 27 years, they shut the plant down and moved it after it was bought American homes sold it to Jacob scuhard and they ran it in the ground it was not the union or the workers wanting more pay it was bad leadership with the new owners.
When I saw this video I really wanted to go there and I went there today and it's awesome. The way you guys took is blocked now we had to climb through some window a bit further down.....we found two dead possums on the tracks.
I lived one block away from this factory for 12 years. Brachs bought up three city blocks of buildings and had them bulldozed to make a giant parking lot surrounded by a high fence. They acted like the people living in the neighborhood were no better than sewer rats. Homes that had stood for almost 100 years gone and replaced by asphalt. Brachs decided that they could get a better price on sugar and labor so left for Argentina leaving behind this huge scar on the west side of Chicago.
i wish i could hang u up by your balls n gat bunch toy ass tagers n have them tag all over u and fuckin blow your brains out. this is sick a building lyk that. b lucky its still standing and holdin some art. thats a place u could go and bomb for hours n get blown n jus relax but u gotta b ina hurry mr minute man vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv "silver surfer 760" lol:p
why because they have more artistic ability than you. not all graffiti is gangs. Its a whole subculture. And why not do it on an abandon building. Thats a complete shit hole. most of the art here was really nice. so go live you Mundane life and stop complaining on youtube.
umm...i agree that graffiti is wrong. but only if it's on places that SHOULDN'T be graffiti'd....but it's just an abandoned factory. No one's using it. Plus personally, i think it's art :)
maybe it's cuz i wanna be a graphic designer. but atleast they're not placing graffiti on schools or soemthing. 'sides, you wouldn't really find these in an art museum.
I dont think you would want that shite all over your building if you owned the building, the excuse that its all run down and broken up doesnt wear,as its the yobbo's who broke all the windows, kicked all the doors in,stole everything they could for drugs, including the wiring and then sprayed spastic ghetto art over everything. Now the place has been turned into a ghetto, when it wasn't originally one.
of what??That it wasn't a ghetto before??I can assure you when that building was in use it had its windows and was completely graffiti free and wasn't trashed.
Maybe you should blame the Brach's Candy Company for closing the factory down in the first place. 1,000's of jobs and millions of dollars in local revenue and wages lost in a neighborhood that could sorely use the money. You're so worried about the people who own the property but are ignoring the fact that they're the ones that allowed the decay to happen in the first place. The graffiti is just a symptom of a much bigger problem that you seem more than happy to ignore.
The compnay probably moved abroad as the workers wanted $50 an hour and a four day week,so they probably went to asia where they could pay $50 a MONTH and there were no pain in the ass trade unions.
the one on 18th and dame is not a factory its an elementary school. the damen silos are closer to archer i dont know the street off the freeway off i 55
dam both of the vids u took were dope.. but u should go back and do it now the place is completey different.. still mostly north side writers up in there tho...
It is so happy that factories became abandoned. Soon all America will deindustrialize itself to dust and people will live in caves. Good luck!

duh -_-
wut's the point? it's not in use now, and
if they plan on rebuilding it, they'll just
tear it down and build it back up again,
so wut's it's purpose of standing there for? just sit there? wut's wrong with brightening it up with graffiti? it's not even in use.

Yeah, there's nothing more American than wanting corporations to exploit cheap labor in unsafe conditions in the name of more profit.
Really though, you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.
bloodbewillthere 2 years ago
Yeah I agree... unions destroyed many of our manufacturing jobs. There should be a law prohibiting unions in every manufacturing job.
