This was the first RPG I ever played, my brother bought me it for the Mega CD for Christmas, since he'd given me his Mega Drive/Mega CD Combi for my birthday a few months before, and he didn't know what games I was into, but it soon became the origin of my love for the likes of Pokémon and Final Fantasy! Though I think it's been about 13-14 years since I last played this game though...
@ChaosOmegaOWA It is tempting, as I have a couple emulators already anyway... But maybe not for a while yet! I might look up what else is on it first before getting it though!
I was a huge fan of the original n the Atari ST,however Dungeon Master 2 has such a cartoony art direction to everything that I couldnt get into it as much.
ANyone every find a giant mr yuck face in the town? I played this game a lot and one day I walked into a wall and there was a "secret" area with a giant mr yuck face! I couldnt move forward or back and could never find it there again!
@ChaosOmegaOWA It occurred on the sega cd version at the wall in the corner by the clothing shop in town. I was never able to replicate it. It felt like I walked into some other weird dimension. Obviously, it must have been written into the software somewhere or it would not have occurred, why I have no idea...I was never able to find out any info about it online either.
actually you dont have to die from lighning i have master 3 fighter with over 500 hp and it didint kill him but killed the rest ), unlike most of ppls this game among dozens others its not just good memorys i still coming back to these games, my last game i have over 70 blue diamonds )
@0ShadowFighter0 I use to try to hoard and collect all of the items in the game.. then one day I reloaded and a bunch were mysteriously gone...memory limitations probably. But that was discouraging haha.
Damn I remember playing Dungeon master as a kid and I sucked so hard in it. And it doesn't help that you need to do all these complicated things in realtime and quickly while stuff happens around you.
Heh - usually I keep the stone key and lock the beginning castle behind me when I leave. I kinda like to have it as a base of operations, and that way when the thieves and minions start to appear in the starting area later on, I know that my 'home base' is completely safe since there's no way for them to get in.
I dunno, it just helps me feel more secure. What do you think?
This game looks very complex for newcomers, I can't imagine playing it without the manual.
It's almost like a kind of copy protection, like "Yeah you thought you fucked us and play an illegal copy, well guess what : without the manual you won't have the slightest idea how to even open a treasure chest or cas ta spell. Have fun being forced to buy the game and fuck you".
Haha. Well, opening treasure chests isn't that hard, you just place them in your hand, or click on the lock portion of them while they are on the ground, and they will open. As for casting spells, the manual doesn't list any of the spells. You learn them by finding magical items that have the spell. When you go to activate them, it has the runes right there. The only thing I remember being useful in the manual was the names of each of the runes.
It's one of the things that makes me nostalgia/love these old games. Games nowadays seemingly spoonfeed you every gameplay aspect that it has. Not even spoonfeed- FORCE feed. They don't really make games like this anymore. Just get dropped in the world and you gotta figure it out yourself. That's a big part of the fun!
The war club is probably the strongest and cheapest weapon you can get in the beginning...once your fighter(s) can use its bludgeon attack, you can destroy most beginning creatures in one hit.
I remember attacking the shop keeper that guard guy comes to kill you and he doesnt die at least as far as I know if u make it out alive it takes along time before the guard stops trying to kill u and also if u attack the gaurd the same thing happens
ANother note: weight is very important in this game; if any of your characters is burdened your party will be slowed down and that character will not be able to fight as good or handle damage as well.
The stronger your character is the further you can throw, and also the more you carry without being burdened.
NOte on store- you can put your money box on the trade table and the merchant will trade all the money for the highest value money unit (IE like channging five 1 dollar bills for a 5 dollar bill)- which will come in very handy when you have hundreds of money pieces, and each piece weighs a little bit (and it all adds up).
I know there's a way to play this version using a DOS emulator. But I can't seem to make it work. Are you playing this game on an old computer with windows95?
Oh really? Yes please! I would greatly appreciate it!
Go ahead and send me a message listing step by step on how you got this to work. I looked it up on a website, but nothing on there seemed to have worked. Thanks again!

wow. I see where the excellent new game Demon's Souls got a lot of its inspiration from!
its a lot like the classic RPGs, but dumbed down a bit (while still complex) and much more focused on battle.. crazy.

No, you can kill the guards in the shops...you just need to spam the hell out of them with fireballs...or the thunder spell if you know it.
