Marvel is probably where the will to end the series' came from. If it won't keep the lead x-men comic going, it isn't worth it. The possibilty of making the movie-tie ins their own universe evidently hasn't occurred to them.
I went to take my Dad, my two little brothers, My Sister and her boyfriend, and Myself to see this movie for Father's Day...and I have to say...I hated this movie. I didn't care much for the feel of its time period, the characters didn't really reach to me for any emotional value...the "fairy mutant" seemed pointless...Beast looked like the Grinch...Story was good, but Xavier was a bit of an anus....
I don't know, perhaps if I had read the comics I'd like it..but no...just my two cents.
good review, but I think u should lighten up a little with the "goofy" comic book moments. not every comic based movie has to be super realistic or super serious
Jonas was passionate @ 6:34, I think that's how I felt about Alfonso Cuaron messing up on character developments in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
But I agree, I would like to see the Sentinels as well.
This movie wasn't perfect, but man, it was awesome, the sub lift scene was inspiring, I'm glad the movie tried to be more character focused, especially on Magneto. Whenever Charles and Erik were together in a scene they were perfect. Want. Sequel. Now.
I was hoping you guys would comment on the terrible acting from January Jones. Even in that very scene that you guys mentioned.
(in a monotone voice, while blinking uncontrollably) "Excellent question. Though I wouldn't call it a war exactly. That suggests both sides stand an equal chance of winning" (WTF? no it doesn't!)
That scene made no sense. It served no purpose. And her acting was terrible. Something tells me Vaugh had some special time with Miss Jones in exchange for more screen time.
I myself am not a huge X-Men fan. I admire trying to apply Civil Rights movement with super-powered people but X-Men gets too caught up in either being Sci-Fi Actioner or preaches politics making the drama feel forced. Most of the mutants aren’t mutants so much as super-powered beings which tones down the discrimination aspect.
What work about the X-Men are its characters. Most characters like Wolverine and Magneto had been pushed to have their own stories because they aren’t like other superheroes/villains before and set archetypes for future characters. I like X-Men for its ambitious take on its characters. But it doesn’t deliver its message cohesively and connects more with mainstream than it does with minorities.
@TheMantaBluRay so true - it would have added more depth to the movie if they had, I would have rather that have been the opening sequence showing 60's radicalism rather than reshooting the already seen Magneto Holocaust scene
I really love your reviews MPC! You seem informative, polite and critical at the same time.
I saw First Class and I tought it was phenomenal! The relationship between Profesor X and Magneto reminded me of the relationship of Elijah Prince and David Dunn in the ending of Unbrekable.
Funny, I just got back from seeing this movie and this was up. I do agree for the most part and Wolverine not being a huge part of this didn't bother me at all.

@TheMantaBluRay Agree, not to mention that the only mutant taht dies is the black one. Talking about minorities there.
