very very nice. I've just discovered how cool LuxRender is, despite the long rendering times. Using it in conjunction with a graphics card is very appealing. I can not wait to play with it.
@I8DEAN8I It depends on how complex the scene is and if the CPU or GPU is rendering the it. The GPU, having much more cores will be able to render it way faster. E.g. My CPU only has 4 cores whereas my GPU has 336 to do the work.
@I8DEAN8I A CPU is the Central Processing Unit and the GPU is the Graphics Processing Unit. The CPU can be described as the brain of the computer, the faster the better, the GPU is used to process images, scenes objects, etc. It can be used these days to take away work from the CPU and make it's job easier. A core is like having another processor built into the same chip, e.g. two cores almost like having two processors.
@zeealpal Actually the fastest nVidia card (GTX 590) has only 1024 CUDA cores. Either way that is still quite a bit of power to play around with. What type of hardware do you own?
@dedwarmo You don't have to build from source to get this type of speed, you just need great hardware, and an external render (software) that is able to use the GPU.
It looks freaking awesome by the way!! How do you get SLG to render an animation: how to restrict the render time per frame and how to make it batch render the frames?

This looks so fucking real, you add a desk, a lamp, and a few other miscellaneous objects that you find round your desk and add it in, and you'd fool anyone looking at this alone.
Great video. But I wonder how this is possible when new animated flicks like Toy Story, with great visuals, still allow it to be perceptible by the viewer that even inanimate objects are special effects, while in this video they are virtually indistinguishable from their real life counterparts.
Movie studios spends a fortune on each frame of their films and yet there is this discrepancy, why? I would have thought these to be real had I not seen your other videos.
@yRegal I once heard that it would be perfectly possible for professional studios to produce images / movies that are virtually indistinguishable from reality but that they consciously chose to make the movies look still a bit 'plasticky' so that you realise that its still an animation. Same goes for Shrek, they chose to make it still look a bit computer generated so that viewers are not 'shocked' by the realism. Funny decision in my opinion, but what ....
Also in order to avoid the "uncanny valley" problems. The ogre and donkey were never a problem for viewers but there were children who were very frightened by the almost-but-not-quite-perfect image of the Princess. It was so close to real that it looked like a real person with something very wrong with her. So they had to step away from the edge of realism and make her more recognizably cartoon-like for that very reason.
Can you upload the files please?

@ninjatogo Yes sorry my apologies, i didnt specify that i was speaking about the ATI 6990, not the GTX 590, both great cards though :)

I can't wait until this kind of speed is available to those of us who don't want to build the program from the source code.
