  • I'LL SAY IT 1 LAST TIME FOR ALL THE americans who seem to hear things pitch shifted. ALF DOES NOT SOUND LIKE NOR IS A MAN!

  • Love the backward echo on this. Alf looks 10 years younger 20 years later. Love this woman. Vince aint bad either

  • i remember for the longest time thinking a man sang this song.. and when he said "he's my lover" i was like holy shit, they're really tolerable for these gay lyrics.

  • Super disco

  • Boom

  • Can't believe this was released as a B-Side! It's not even on many copies of Upstairs At Eric's

  • 21 seconds in - that laugh has been sampelded by everyone, here's where it came from.

  • @andbau4242 It has only just occurred to me that everybody who hears that sample in songs doesn't immediately flash back to listening to Upstairs at Eric's as a teenager. Of course they don't. Wow. I'm old.

  • Heidi Montag took this song and shat on it... how dare she!

  • the sluturdays ruined this song!

  • Wow this is one of the best songs ever made. But of course what do you expect out of Vince Clark. What a great combination with Alison Moyet what a voice!!:D

  • isnt this the lady who played with culture club, or was that a different one....hmmm im not sure

  • lol there wasnt a lady in culture club

  • @rice3y actually she sang a song with them...poisonous mind...alison something...man i forgot : )

  • she was a backing singer called helen terry that was a guest vocalist on that song but she does sound a lot like alison moyet

  • @rice3y true she really does, i was easily mistaken

  • @amorxamor421 She toured and sang with them back in the 90s. I saw them w/her, Human League and Howard Jones at a festival show back then.

  • vicny6 I have always loved this band too! But I also thought the lead singer was a man LOL....Now that I know it's a woman, Im like wow what a sexy raspy voice! Love3 the synth in their music!! What garbage we have today for music...Most anyway

  • this songs fucking hilarious

  • Went to Europe when I was 16. Heard Yazoo and bought the cassette. I know...cassette...kind of funny. When I got back to the states, they released the album...calling the group YAZ. This song brings back great memories. I will always love the 80's!!!

  • I remember way back in my day, when I was 12 years old, I heard this song & thought it rocked. Or maybe I said it was awesome or bad, whatever lingo kids used way back then. Now, nearly 28 years later, I listen to this & I think it rocks. Or it's tight or owns, whatever kids say these days.

  • Awesome yesterday,

    Awesome today,

    Awesome tomorrow.

  • OMG. Love this song. BUT i always thought the singer was a man. LOL.

  • omg the saturdays used this tune for their song. lmao

    but this version is better

  • Another hot, hot record. Hey, 80's naysayers: don't be so quick to judge what you don't know, and unless you LIVED the 80's (and I emphasize that b/c that is exactly what we did.......LIVED!), you really have no idea.

  • Yazoo were created in 1981 by Vince Clarke (formerly Depeche Mode) and Alison Moyet. Both are from Essex here in the UK. They were signed to Mute Records in the UK and later additionally to Sire Records in the USA where they were popularised as Yaz for the american audience and fans.

  • Aye, there was another artist here in the States by the same name, and so the name change for the U.S. was to avoid confusion (and possible lawsuits).

I doubt true fans waste too much time squabbling about the discrepancy.

  • It's Yaz, not Yazoo

  • It's actually both.

  • Wow,I've got the vinyl 45rpm version of this great Yazoo song, and this version is much much better, and lasts longer too.

Thanks for the upload of this video.

    Rated 5/5

  • Alison Moyet had an AMAZING voice. No-one's like her!

  • nothing like it .....still brill

  • I remember this song was mixed all the time by NYC DJs in the 80's - especially the laugh part.

  • WORD! I'm in NYC and I've only heard (until youtube) that veersion which I've been looking high and low for on here, lol! Z100 played it alot when they had a decent Saturday 80's (until 2004/05).

  • This isn't the original video to the single is it?

The computer graphics look WAY to good for 1982!

  • Situation was the B side of Only you theyre first single but the 12" version was a massive dance track

  • wery good song

  • excellent song of the 80's. my handbag was on the floor as much as i was!! lol

  • yeh i remember i kicked to the side n nicked your purse lol

Elmer Morataya

  • the best of 80

  • yeah here we go...this is how the good stuff sounds

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • original track and ting!

  • Yazoo were one of the best synthpop groups of the 80's,and Alison Moyet has to be one of the finest female vocalist of all time.

  • excelente tema!!! lo mejor de los 80

  • Yeah this was the song, Rush street(chicago)...Faces, and Manhatten on Rush street when times were fun and the night life was cool!

  • Wow....after 30 years of listening to this, this is thie first time I saw the video and i thought it was a man singing it.

  • Me too...At least I'm not the only one that thought this....

  • great song, haven't heard this in so long!

  • AWESOME!!! YAZOO ROCK.

  • really awesome!!!!

  • Wonderful nostalgia...making me feel all squeaky geeky!

  • yazoo were the nuts!! still sound great today!

  • I concur with all of the previous comments. When I first heard this song it blew me away and years later it still blows me away! Love the pause half way through and then it starts again. Move out!!

  • Bloody hell. I bought the 12" remix of this.

  • Songs like these are the answer to the question "Why is the music industry fucked TODAY?"

  • I guess they are what they are & ought to be left well alone. Huge, vast wide berths. Once upon a time people had spirit, these days it's much about crushing spirit as much as possible with obvious fake spirit . The more obvious it is, it seems, the more valued. These people involved in the music business today (largely) actually recoil at the possibility of being mistaken with genuine spirit.

Very bad, because I can't go to gyms like I used to because the noise from the speakers is so awful.

  • That was a respones to Galonga's recent comment. "Situation" is a classic track.

  • One thing I thought about saying is - I seldom can come to terms with how someone as cool as Vince Clark in the Yazoo days went from such an excellent, soulful, groundbreaking group to the awful Erasure. I usually don't bother stating that thought - which is one of my biggest wonders in life - because Erasure have so many supporters, it's not worth it. But, there, I did it. Anyway, Erasure still sound like music from adults, however Lowest Comm demoninator it is, compared to what's heard today.

  • Fucking brilliant!! Thanks for sharing. I love this song so much, it really transports me right back to the day:-)

  • I love this song and im 11 and I agree with all of you that this is no where as good as the crap out today

  • ah good i found the long version ^^

    thank god <3

  • You know something is DAMN good when it sounds as fresh as it did 25 years ago! When I play this in my set the crowds st6ill go wild!

Do you think the crap being made today will be as popular in 25 years time? I think not!

  • I would like to go to night clubs playing this kind of music :D

  • true dance music of 80's

    fantastic song

  • i kneww i heard heidi montags "body language" beat beforeee!

  • 80s master piece

  • Great & unforgettable !The song was also played by Flying Steps about few years ago . They made successful remake of this song but I prefer rather the first release

  • Yep, they don't make music like this anymore!

  • UP THE SHRIMPERS!!!!!!

  • need to dig out my original 12" version of this by memory its the 7" version repeated

  • Alison has a fab voice......love her to bits!!

  • Vince Clarke is an absolute genius

  • I love this sooooong!!!! <3<3<3

  • Her name is Alison Moyet.

  • wowowowow i love this song i had no idea it was a woman

  • I knew it was a woman. She's a damn good singer, very good song.

  • One of my all-time-favorites!!! Really great! Thanks for posting!

  • I can imagine this song in some old-ass video game.

  • Alison will ALWAYS be the voice of this song...and no one will ever take this away.

btw...Heidi,crawl back into the sewer from whence you came. Never surface to ruin another classic anymore!!!!

  • godzilla i cant stop laughing from that post. it is too true

this was such a good song i remember when it came out!!

  • I Remember my teenage years back in the 80s listening to CLASSICS like this one that I remember when it was new, who of us back then would have guessed that this and other GEMS like this would be a YOUTUBE CLASSIC, YOUTUBE IS THE GREATEST THING ON THE WHOLE WORLD WIDE WEB, I am nonetheless glad to be an aware 40 year old who grew up in the BAHAMAS AND THE CARIBBEAN U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, I would not trade my youth for anything today, it was not always great, but alas it was what it was!

  • Heidi Montag sexually assaulted this song, what a bitch.

  • I used to think they said Rudolph on this song. lol

  • XDD same

  • I grew up with this song. I remember when it came out, I remember dancing to it in the clubs as a "classic", and I never knew the name of the song or the band, and if it hadnt been for that talentless fame whore, I'd probably have never found the information I needed. Someone was more than happy to point out where that riff REALLY came from.

  • nice song

  • Heidi montag...I can't speak right now... I need to shoot that bitch.

  • Tell me baby in the night do u think of me?

    =P

  • Great tune...DAMN...Conroe TX,

  • Mega Man music, sounds so much like it back in the 80's on the NES!lol love it

  • this always reminds me of the NES classic series commercial.

  • Why oh why did that hag Heidi Montag have to slaughter this song?

  • what fcking planet you on? Updated tracks don't sound better most of the time. And the fact the beat is not repetitive proves my point.

Since when is repetitive music a breakthru in greatness?

As for classic movies. Again you are wrong, especially for horror flicks. The older ones have a strange edginess that has nothing to do with excessive gore. Granted, I like the gore, but that doesn't make a "newer" version of the movie better.

It's the eerie moods in the older flicks that stand out

  • Personally, I'd rather listen to the music of the "whale" with the voice of an angel, than some vacant blonde poptart whose sole talent is to wave her bits at the crowd.

  • yeah ur so right

  • i swear, this song(or the beat) could totaly work for a classic NES Mega Man game...haha, it sort of remindes me of Elec mans stage ;p

  • Anybody who thinks that Heidi's version is better than this is truly retarded.

  • Long live the 80's...I hate how rappers and whoever take classics like this and remix them...Heidi is a reality tv show retard, her version was laughable...It shows that alot of creativity in music nowadays(at least the mainstream) is going down to the tubes...But hey, MGMT is pretty rad ;p

  • Im glad Heidi made this over. The beat is awesome... to awesome for this weird ass song.

  • fucking idiot

  • only so five stars great hit 80S

  • I feel the same way about the Heidi girl. Anyway, it was a shock to me to find out this was sung by a woman, I always thought it was a gay man! lol

  • Wow, Heidi Montag really was ruining it. I heard "Body Language" and many said it samples this song. I never knew it would SOUND THE SAME! Just when I thought I would love that song : /

  • To bad so many shitty artist have stolen the beat to this song.

    Heidi Montag murdered it.

  • exactly!!!

  • It's not stealing, you pay royalties to the band. But I agree the original is by far the best.

  • hey Jackotaco, u mentioned that yaz's "Situation" was a rip off from Heidi. What was the ORIGINAL song called? I love the beat but the woman's voice seems out of place.

  • This is actually the original version. Vince Clarke created this beat(Who was also original member of DM). I think I know which version you are looking for, it is the Francois Kevorkian mix to it. I am not sure if it is on youtube. But I know what you are saying. Listen to their other song, Don't go, and tell me if that sounds familiar. Because another European artist named Double You sampleted to his song Run To Me.

  • JACKOTACO "Vince Clarke created this beat" Vince Clarke didnt do anything especial, he did not create this beat, this beat has been around since the music was first created. about 70% of worlds top musicians have used this beat since the evolution of music thousands of years ago.

  • ugh i hate that plastic slut her voice is so synthesized and autotuned on that reality show were she sings for real it proves she sucks

  • The singer is Alison Moyet, whose big bluesy sledgehammer of a voice injected Vince Clark's riffy 80s tweaking with serious balls!!! Pity they split up so quickly. Her solo work became increasingly bland.

  • A cross dressing man singing this song...incredible!!

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell, i thought the singer was a guy

  • me too

  • Worlds most famous laugh

  • jaja wenos recuerdos lso 80's wena epoca musical....
