vicny6 I have always loved this band too! But I also thought the lead singer was a man LOL....Now that I know it's a woman, Im like wow what a sexy raspy voice! Love3 the synth in their music!! What garbage we have today for music...Most anyway
Went to Europe when I was 16. Heard Yazoo and bought the cassette. I know...cassette...kind of funny. When I got back to the states, they released the album...calling the group YAZ. This song brings back great memories. I will always love the 80's!!!
I remember way back in my day, when I was 12 years old, I heard this song & thought it rocked. Or maybe I said it was awesome or bad, whatever lingo kids used way back then. Now, nearly 28 years later, I listen to this & I think it rocks. Or it's tight or owns, whatever kids say these days.
Another hot, hot record. Hey, 80's naysayers: don't be so quick to judge what you don't know, and unless you LIVED the 80's (and I emphasize that b/c that is exactly what we did.......LIVED!), you really have no idea.
Yazoo were created in 1981 by Vince Clarke (formerly Depeche Mode) and Alison Moyet. Both are from Essex here in the UK. They were signed to Mute Records in the UK and later additionally to Sire Records in the USA where they were popularised as Yaz for the american audience and fans.
Aye, there was another artist here in the States by the same name, and so the name change for the U.S. was to avoid confusion (and possible lawsuits).
I doubt true fans waste too much time squabbling about the discrepancy.

I concur with all of the previous comments. When I first heard this song it blew me away and years later it still blows me away! Love the pause half way through and then it starts again. Move out!!
I guess they are what they are & ought to be left well alone. Huge, vast wide berths. Once upon a time people had spirit, these days it's much about crushing spirit as much as possible with obvious fake spirit . The more obvious it is, it seems, the more valued. These people involved in the music business today (largely) actually recoil at the possibility of being mistaken with genuine spirit.
Very bad, because I can't go to gyms like I used to because the noise from the speakers is so awful.
One thing I thought about saying is - I seldom can come to terms with how someone as cool as Vince Clark in the Yazoo days went from such an excellent, soulful, groundbreaking group to the awful Erasure. I usually don't bother stating that thought - which is one of my biggest wonders in life - because Erasure have so many supporters, it's not worth it. But, there, I did it. Anyway, Erasure still sound like music from adults, however Lowest Comm demoninator it is, compared to what's heard today.
Great & unforgettable !The song was also played by Flying Steps about few years ago . They made successful remake of this song but I prefer rather the first release

Heidi's track is better then this its updated and it keeps the cool beat thru the entire song. This song beat changes to much and takes away from the coolness. All updated tracks sound better. Compare the intrumental from Rihanna's SOS to tainted love or the geico version of somebody's watching me to the old one. Updated tracks sound better just like remastered classic movies. Besides Heidi is sexy as shit this chick not so much. I understand girls not liking Heidi but guys? I wanna bang Heidi.
what fcking planet you on? Updated tracks don't sound better most of the time. And the fact the beat is not repetitive proves my point.
Since when is repetitive music a breakthru in greatness?
As for classic movies. Again you are wrong, especially for horror flicks. The older ones have a strange edginess that has nothing to do with excessive gore. Granted, I like the gore, but that doesn't make a "newer" version of the movie better.
It's the eerie moods in the older flicks that stand out
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wasnt talking about horror flicks, mostly talking about when they improve the sound and quality of the film on a visual level. Remastered does not mean remade. Heidi's track of this song is updated and sounds better quality wise.. of course she cant sing. Who cares about that shes fuckin hot. Who wants to look at this whale? Who cares about music breakthrough's? Man that shit is so dead how can any music be great its just fukin music. Screw that shit I wanna see sexy girls shake their hot ass.
Personally, I'd rather listen to the music of the "whale" with the voice of an angel, than some vacant blonde poptart whose sole talent is to wave her bits at the crowd.
Long live the 80's...I hate how rappers and whoever take classics like this and remix them...Heidi is a reality tv show retard, her version was laughable...It shows that alot of creativity in music nowadays(at least the mainstream) is going down to the tubes...But hey, MGMT is pretty rad ;p
Wow, Heidi Montag really was ruining it. I heard "Body Language" and many said it samples this song. I never knew it would SOUND THE SAME! Just when I thought I would love that song : /
hey Jackotaco, u mentioned that yaz's "Situation" was a rip off from Heidi. What was the ORIGINAL song called? I love the beat but the woman's voice seems out of place.
This is actually the original version. Vince Clarke created this beat(Who was also original member of DM). I think I know which version you are looking for, it is the Francois Kevorkian mix to it. I am not sure if it is on youtube. But I know what you are saying. Listen to their other song, Don't go, and tell me if that sounds familiar. Because another European artist named Double You sampleted to his song Run To Me.
JACKOTACO "Vince Clarke created this beat" Vince Clarke didnt do anything especial, he did not create this beat, this beat has been around since the music was first created. about 70% of worlds top musicians have used this beat since the evolution of music thousands of years ago.
The singer is Alison Moyet, whose big bluesy sledgehammer of a voice injected Vince Clark's riffy 80s tweaking with serious balls!!! Pity they split up so quickly. Her solo work became increasingly bland.
Blue eyes dress for every situation...I love her voice very strong.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Wasnt talking about horror flicks, mostly talking about when they improve the sound and quality of the film on a visual level.

Personally, I'd rather listen to the music of the "whale" with the voice of an angel, than some vacant blonde poptart whose sole talent is to wave her bits at the crowd.

i swear, this song(or the beat) could totaly work for a classic NES Mega Man game...haha, it sort of remindes me of Elec mans stage ;p

Anybody who thinks that Heidi's version is better than this is truly retarded.

Im glad Heidi made this over. The beat is awesome... to awesome for this weird ass song.

I feel the same way about the Heidi girl. Anyway, it was a shock to me to find out this was sung by a woman, I always thought it was a gay man! lol

Wow, Heidi Montag really was ruining it. I heard "Body Language" and many said it samples this song. I never knew it would SOUND THE SAME! Just when I thought I would love that song : /

exactly!!!

It's not stealing, you pay royalties to the band. But I agree the original is by far the best.

hey Jackotaco, u mentioned that yaz's "Situation" was a rip off from Heidi. What was the ORIGINAL song called? I love the beat but the woman's voice seems out of place.
SpartanDfnder 2 years ago
This is actually the original version. Vince Clarke created this beat(Who was also original member of DM). I think I know which version you are looking for, it is the Francois Kevorkian mix to it. I am not sure if it is on youtube. But I know what you are saying. Listen to their other song, Don't go, and tell me if that sounds familiar. Because another European artist named Double You sampleted to his song Run To Me.

JACKOTACO "Vince Clarke created this beat" Vince Clarke didnt do anything especial, he did not create this beat, this beat has been around since the music was first created. about 70% of worlds top musicians have used this beat since the evolution of music thousands of years ago.

ugh i hate that plastic slut her voice is so synthesized and autotuned on that reality show were she sings for real it proves she sucks
blondboy16 2 years ago
The singer is Alison Moyet, whose big bluesy sledgehammer of a voice injected Vince Clark's riffy 80s tweaking with serious balls!!! Pity they split up so quickly. Her solo work became increasingly bland.
