That is a specious argument. After the unregulated western industrial whaling (for oil) of the last century drove some species to be endangered ended, the whales numbers quickly came back up. There are now more than 600,000 arctic Minkes alone.
And now the whaling is limited, and sustainable. The antis are just against any meat consumption or killing "cute" animals.
These people are cash making machines. If you watch season 5 that aired on 1st week of September 09, they had a "Celebrity" on board, an actress from Europe using her Celebrity to get more media attention but no one know who she is, no one know what her name is, no one know what movie she has been in. Do you see a connection here; the actress uses the Sea Shepherd and the Animal Planet channel to get her name out to the media so that people would know who she is. A piece of pie for every one
So what if the Sea Shepherd make some money, it's only going back into the good fight. It costs heaps to chase poachers around the Antarctic. Grow up a little.
When I first heard about Paul Watson, the Sea Shepard and their cause, I thought I would like them.
I watched every episode of Whale Wars and each one made me feel differently about them, then I saw the fake shooting episode. I reallized that Paul Watson is not worthy of my respect.
I love Steve Irwin and I wish this pirate ship which is captained by a bloated opportunist wouldn't be named after him.
Why on earth would anyone want to eat whale blubber, sushi & rice every day, you can get salmonella from that, yuck. I thought Mc Donald's was all over the world now?
These people do know Japan is an island right? What do you think their diet is going to be based primary on...
It's not like the Japanese are all going to say "thank you, self righteous white people of the world we have seen the error of our ways and will switch the main stay off our diet to things which you find morally justified."
@Knothole When poled, fewer than 10% of japanese people have EVER eaten whale meat, and of those that have, fewer than 5% eat it on a regular basis, price being the main reason. The diet of the Japanese people is quite safe from SSCS.
@Knothole there is plenty of fish smartazz, whales and dolphins is a dangered species + if this whale hunting continues there will be nothing left..., and it's illegal.
I an strongly opposed to the killing of whales. Im even more opposed to the commiting of the act of whaling in the name of 'research'. Killing a whale for human consumption is whaling isnt it?
I wish they could address these problems politically and diplomatically rather than with their lame "direct action tactics." It's a long winded way of saying terrorism. Besides, they're just tarnishing a good cause in the eyes of people like myself.
GO THE SEA SHEPERD...........GO AND BLOW THE JAPANESE OUT THE OCEAN. I HOPE THEY BURN TO DEATH, THE CRUEL BASTARDS....It takes upto 40 mins for a whale to die whilst turning around and around in the bloody water in so much pain. Men are even using dogs and cats as live bait now to catch and slaughter sharks!!! They put the hook through the paws and nose of the cat or dog and throw it over board for the sharks whilst yes, still alive!!
But we can't forget not to stereotypicalis an entire people on the blueprint of the evil minority. In other words, Bush is evil, but that doesn't make ALL americans evil...well most of them, but the point still stands.
yes i agree, in fact over 60% of japan disagree with the fact of whaling. their government needs to listen more, and have some repect for other people and countries.
Cherished? The only thing cherished, is the Japanese taste buds! The whales are far from being honoured, when slaughtered so savagely. How does one kill a 12 tonne mammal humanely? It cannot be done. And now, they plan to kill a 40 tonne Humpback. Go SEA SHEPHERD. Stop the madness of inhumanity, to the worlds biggest mammal.... the mighty Whale.

That Watson is a big fat fraud. He knows full well that these Minke and Humpback whales aren't on the IUCN List of Endangered Species!

You're a dick, Terri Irwin has her own mind. This was Steves parting wish.
Terri is a powerful proactive person. Not about to waste her life grieving.

Only 5% of the Japanese eat any whale meat. It is not a long tradition of theirs. The Yakuza mafia is behind the whaling for fast cash.
(You need to Research a little first.)
eckyspondoolie 2 years ago
5% of 1.2 million would be 600,000. That is a lot.
Where is the evidence of yakuza?

@las0331 10% doesn't sound much but that's about 12,7 million people and 5 % is about 6,35 million - that's a lot of people eating whalemeat.
